The Timely Revelation
By: FODDER
Date: December 14th, 2009
A Thought
I would just like to take the opportunity to put in a few words about why most of us will never see success in gaming. The reason is obvious, and it is self-inflicted. You are lazy. Yes you.
It has been brought to my attention, time and time again that teams are under the assumption they can make it to the top international level that actually makes a living off of gaming through mere 3-4 hour a day practices, 5 days a week. If you are under this assumption, and play by it, I reccomend you either listen up, or give up.
There is something called a learning curve my friends, something many of us have not, and will never fully see the occulent degree of power of. Teams like fnatic are putting in many hours each and every day, with quality practice, making great strides every day. Whereas back in America for instance, for a paticular team, someone had just told me that justifcation for such a severe shrotcoming of time spent practicing is stated to be the necessary baby steps for new and inexperienced teams.
So with that mindset in mind, let's take a few things into consideration here. Chances are, if you are reading this, you are not as good as a team like fnatic. You probably are not close in the slightest realm. Once this can be agreed upon here comes the next kicker. And more than likely, the top international players put in more effort into the game, because they make a living off of it, unlike yourself. So let's see here. They are already at a point far distant and past us. They are going at a faster pace of evolution than us.
So What?
So what is that saying? If we put in less hours (especially in terms of how meaningful they are than a professional team, and we are not even close to the level of a professional team, how in God's name do you expect to ever even accomplish anything noteworthy? The answer? You shoudln't. And if I have to seriously do this I will:
IF YOU PUT IN LESS HOURS, AND ARE AT A LESSER LEVEL THAN FNATIC, YOU WILL NEVER BE AT FNATIC'S LEVEL, OR EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE, THUS YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO MAKE A LIVING OFF OF CS OR E-SPORTS FOR THAT MATTER
(for the lazy people)
What Can Be Done?
Gee... maybe get off your ass and play this game like you mean it? Appearently many of you are under the assumption that opportunities in life just fall right out of the fucking sky. But let's get real here. They don't. You will never improve at a rate fast enough to catch up to the professional tier if you put in 3-4 hours a day, for 5 day periods. Thus, you might as well honestly quit.
If you don't go into E-sports thinking of it as a future life career option, such a thing, it will never become. - Fatal1ty

Good point FODDER
Nice thought, but I think many people already knew that! :P Play for fun, and if you want to go further, try! It gets nothing without trying.. Keep dreaming, life is so short!
If people would see the game just like 'fun' and keep playing the game, you will improve much easier than if you are taking the game to serious. Taking the game to serious causes stress and irritation. So my opinion, if you would like to become a good player and are playing a lot of hours, keep the fun of the game in mind next to being serious.
This this and this again, and it goes not only for pc games but for any sport at all.
I play soccer much better (not that I want to become a pro or anything, nor do I in gaming) and have much more fun when I'm playing with friends than when it actually means something to someone (mostly overly competitive people).
Sports are made to have a laugh and actually relax a bit, and so are games, not to make you MORE stressed.
I wouldn't suggest anyone to take games/sports that seriously, unless one really has the ambition to make a living off of those things, in which case best thing I can do is wish them luck :).

Maybe people like to play for fun, ever think of that you dropkick?
Yes, I did think of that. But someone who is all about fun and games, is what we call lazy where I come from. If you are not going to make an honest effort towards getting shit done, why even put up the sherade of half assing everything? Go play another game if all you want to do is kill time. Hell, I heard the new COD game has gone over pretty well so far.
We don't need CS, a game which as a community is now almost completely on life support through the competitive aspect of it, further tainted by non serious players. It is hard enough finding another player out there that wants to amount to something in this industry without all the rugrats unwilling to put time in running around.
Among the demand for games that propel computers to their threshhold, one of the other key aspects sponsors look for is teams that can well represent their products. If more and more undedicated players continue to intoxicate what's left of the competitive atmosphere, nobody will get anything done, there will be no generation of players to keep names like fnatic, SK, and so on alive, and everything will collapse. So for the love of God, anyone who plays CS for fun needs to either get serious, get out, or stick to public play and ESEA pugs before further polluting the overall mindset and focus of the community.

At NGL Finals in 2007 my team beat fnatic 16-7 and 16-8 while practicing maybe 5h in the past two months in comparison to their +100h. Makes sense.

I want to see FODDER's answer to this one.
FODDER is clueless and lives on the assumption that he knows everything just because he can figure out most of the pros.
You'll never get good if you don't enjoy playing. You don't need to play 5hours straight or a day if you think 1 hour is productive enough, if something you will OVERTRAIN and not get any better at all.
There's talented players and there's hard workers, just like any sport or business. There's people who are happy enough being mediocre but taking fun than trying to achieve something they don't really care about just because some kid thinks they should.
Just because I'm fascinated by the competitive level played by real talented players doesn't mean I have to try to achieve their level or try to emulate what they do hoping I'll be the next big thing. I don't have what it takes to be at their level (be it Q3 or CS) and I'm ok with it.

Don't be over-exaggerating the whole "pro players breathe CS". Have you seen their weekly playtime?
But yes, you do have a point that one has to have clear goals if you actually want to succeed. Many don't really have or want to succeed, some of us play it for the fun of it.
This is something which goes under the category "Basic Knowledge" though. Everyone knows it... At least 95%

It's just a thought but I can tell you exactly why you have never made the breakthrough.
pwnd xD
how about you continue to preach about the same thing over and over again... OH WAIT YOU ALREADY ARE DOING THAT
and for the love of god please run your useless rants through spell check first? "appearently" you can't spell so you should take this step first.
I could care less about my grammar on an online forum. I am not a hired or paid professional at HLTV.org, so I can write as sluggishly as I want. :)
Just an excuse, having a hard time admitting you suck at English?
He sucks at english? that made me lol.
Watch the conversation and then reply, keke?
Well I tried to watch the conversation but I had a hard time figuring out how to, so I decided to read it instead. Actually, I didn't, because I had already read it.
One guy pointed out he had a mistake
He replied: who cares?
You implied he might be having a bad time admiting he sucks at English.
I see no reason for this possibility, as his English is very good, so why would he admit to sucking?

pls stop!!!!! who cares about grammars on a site like this?
People who are good at it of course
am i the only seeing how totally stupid it is to attack somone for a little grammar mistake? sure, if its impossible to read, then i can understand. but when its a fucking letter wrong who the FRIGGING OH MIGHTY FUCK GIVES A SHIT?
Dude, I've seen him do alot of basic mistakes so its not just one thing mate :) calm down, pop a chill pill and do my mum or something
and still its no problem reading what he is writing. this grammar fight didnt start because that american douchebag was horrified by fodders spelling mistakes. people like that are just looking for people to do little tiny mistakes so that they can comment it. we all know fodder isnt the most loved person here on hltv. bet no one would have said anything if it werent fodder writing this. im not mad at you dude. you were just the unlucky, cause my rage has been building for ages now! lets get on topic:
good blog fodder and i think your right. no harm in playing cs just for fun, but dont ruin it for players wanting to play serious.
good blog fodder and i think your right. no harm in playing cs just for fun, but dont ruin it for players wanting to play serious.
True that, but if it was someone you disliked, wouldnt you do the same?
i certanily hope not
On a side note, playing CS for fun is becoming less and less possible nowadays with the decline of the amount of public servers. If you truly play the game for fun, you should not feel the need to contaminate leagues with your non passionate presence. :)

Really? Contaminate?
Games and sports are based on competition. When you're playing against other people, there is gonna be competition between you. Doesn't matter which kind of competition you like or how you like to play it, you will always be competing against someone. That's the fun of it.
If people want to spend a few bucks to have fun playing a game they like in a certain way they enjoy (as most people do in the 5v5 MR15 system), there's nothing wrong in that.
Just because you wanna play for fun doesn't mean you should only play pubs. Most people have fun while playing scrims and pugs, that's why they do it. Or were you under the illusion that everyone who plays on ESEA have a dream of becoming the next f0rest? Or people who play local tournaments of soccer want to be the new Ronaldinho for that matter?
There's people who like to compete, and there's people who MAKE A LIVING out of competition. Please don't speak of the two like they're the same.

Well said
ditto :)
I remember the old days when we'd play on clanbase for no money, just for the sake of competition, for pure competitive fun.

erm... ofc, practise makes you better, but before making this blog, I think that everyone knew it.
95% of this community (I think so) play for fun... we have real life, only few as you can see can earn money and live with that $ won in cs, and cs is only for few years..

Instead of this repetitive wall of text, why didn't you convey this incredibly simple message in a single sentence or maybe even point form.
"In order to become the best at counter-strike, you must put in more effort than the current best counter-strike team."
This itself is a massive oversimplification, but I'm sure you realize this already.
"So for the love of God, anyone who plays CS for fun needs to either get serious, get out, or stick to public play and ESEA pugs before further polluting the overall mindset and focus of the community."
I don't quite understand how casual players are "polluting the overall mindset and focus of the community", as the tier-based league format is self-decontaminating.

Because due to the lack of inflowing talent and new players making it to the top (or even wanting to for that matter), people who do not give two shits about E-sports and would never want to go far in it are making it to ESEA-I and CEVO-P for instance. It's a plague of apathy.
So why haven't you gotten good enough to play in those leagues yet?
Because that requires a team of 4 other players that I have yet to find in this lackluster of a community that are willing to devote themselves to this game and industry WeMade FOX style to get to the top level for the already slim possibility of making it far and a career out of this.
i SO agree with you when you say the tier-format is contaminating itself. very very true!
FODDER, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this forum is now dumber for having read it. I award you no credit, and may God have mercy on your soul.
PS. I find it funny how someone who is literally the most known cheater in his country and has never made it out of the lowest tier of league or out of group play at any local lan knows anything about becoming good at this game.
<Inset excessively long, carefully chosen reply here, stating some irrational monologue on e-Sports, and calling me a troll>

You are not original. The one thing you Europeans seem to be far behind in is the comedic chain. What you just said was about as out of style as a Warden fat joke. Good day my Swede.
what does comedic chain or originality have to do with anything? that statement is 100% accurate about you and your blog post, and every single person on this website agrees with me. stop ruining the site with your excessively long, overdrawn blog posts about your philosophies on gaming, no one cares or values your opinion.

Plenty appear to care enough to try to attack it. And I think I'll make use of this forum as often as I'd like thank you. If you do not care about my opinions or philosophies then go run along my child. :)
child? look at #84, appear that the only pro gamer on this post disagrees with you.
EG isn't fnatic so I don't really care if he decides to troll. EG isn't even in the same realm as a team like fnatic after all this time. And on that note Lurppis has made it clear he does not care about E-sports and he has said before he was going to quit by the turn of the year. He is probably the last pro you would ever want to get involved in this discussion.

LOL are YOU talking about TROLLING? Haha You gotta be fucking kidding me!! HAHAHA joke of the year!
Uhh? Its actually common knowledge. Lurppis had said time and time again that he does not enjoy CS anymore, so much as he does the fact he is playing against top players and getting paid. He has said he was going to quit at the turn of the year. So yeah, I don't think someone who was never serious since his return is a good pro to ask about a matter on this discussion. ;/
That doesen't make him a troll, he has WAAAAY too much experience for that, maybe he say things as they are, but that's because he's been through rough times too.
Now, the fact is that YOU are a troll. Trust me, i've seen you alot on GotFrag.

Don't make me remember some american CAL player... Most of them are trolls.

Ooo, You are completely right. FODDER, you behave as if you were a professional, famous gamer. And the only thing you are known of is your previous cheating experience, so stop posting your funny bullshit on this site, cause noone cares about your statements, which are obviously totally idiotic.
"get off your ass and play this game"
i dont know about the rest of you...
but i tend to sit while i play cs..

useless
those who want a career in esports are already practicing hard..they don't need a "revelation" from you
and for those who don't want a career in esports...well..your arguments are useless..(they are not lazy..and not wanting a career in esports but playing for fun is not doing something "half-assed" as you think)

And you totally seem to miss the point of cs teams that play PCW's for fun. They do have certain tactics, and are serious when in-game.
But on the other hand they just know they aren't pro and they also don't want to make the effort to become pro.
And besides, stating that everyone who play cs 1.6 for fun is ruining the community is just retarded.
GL finding people who think the same. Start a team, let us know when your frist match versus <insert pro team> is.

You guys are being to harsh. Try to find moer posistives. And I have a feeling, just because several people here were in opposition to the blogger - the rest of You just attacked on him like fiends. Wrong tendency brothers...
Let me just say that I agree with F. to the extend of the fact that, and this is golden, the way You practice makes the total outcome different. Simple as it may seem, however a wisdom is hidden deep inside here. Of course Mr. F. doesn't go as far as esplaining us how exactly this difference in practice shall lok like, altough I admitt it is so crucial.
I even find myself oh so often practicing using the 100 % of my perception and involvment. And You know what, it makes a difference, compared to just playing pcw's. And just to clarify - the proper mindset here should be not of a pro gamer, neither the lame for fun player, but a person who is dedicated in the game and it's highest levels of competing. You have to start somewhere, yes ?
BTW I kind of like fatality's quote, however brutal it may sound. And as always the rightous path lies in FINDING THE MIDDLE WAY with a curve towards going high and higher.

It is not rocket science that you need to play a lot of counter-strike in order to become a successful player.

Yes i'm lazy cuz instead of playing x hours i'd rather study/work or go out and meet some girls and socialize.
So u are saying that 3-4 hours/day is not enough and pros play even more than that? What i have always thought is that when the players reach the top-level they dont need to play so much anymore. And btw u have posted that u play with pc that runs 1.6 at 20-30fps. I dont think that u will ever get even close to top with not enough effort to buy a pc that runs the game with 100fps.
Thanks for stating the obvious. Obviously the more time you spend the better you'll be. But playing less means you'll never catch up? That's nonsense.
You're totally neglecting factors like quality of practice, efficiency, talent, performing under pressure, etc.
Let's compare Team A with 5 players who breathe cs, but all they do is pug and mess around. Compared to Team B who play less, but show up for practice and make it productive.
Also talent is a bigger factor. Look at iverson lol.

have a real life, with real friends, u know what i mean? go to college, meet some girls. playing cs for 7-8hours a day, 6 days a week, its not life... is that what u really want for u? living in a dark hole ur whole youth?if it is, i feel sad for u.. but whatever u wanna do with ur life, its good for me. ;)
you are not a good writer, you just know the language and have some silly idea whaahahahah
ever heard of leisure... many players, even those who are goos players just do it four pleasure and do not pursuit any e-sports carrer...
in portugal there are many cases... good players who do not take it that serious but are still among the best PT's (they pratice of course but the aim isn't to become a PRO ).

even thought you are right by saying that effort is needed that is something most of us already know...
those who believe will become pros just by "pubing" or having a medium/high skill ONLINE will never make their way to the top obviously (:
so, if you are considering a esports carrer: PRATICE, practice, play and practice some more but save yourself time for a personal life ...

There is plenty of time for a social life after you are successful my friend. Fatal1ty literally did not speak to anyone other than the few places he stopped at when he was on the road in his early years. Now he's the social butterfly able to relax a bit with all of that payoff.
It's a similar situation to being a straight A student in school. It takes up your time and you invest it in becoming that, but as soon as that window opens, it all pays off and you go on with enriched possibilities afterward. It's called thinking ahead my friend, something not many people know how to do in the face of instant gratification(parties > practices? nah).

individual trainging i think can be acomplished by playing more than 3-4 hours a day
but as a clan i recomand only lan parties and playing against really good or experienced team (not neccesary teams known nation wide, but locally).
experience is knowlege, and for this game is skill.
as far as reaching fnatic that can't be done by a unprofessional player unless is like lcuky enough to be drafted by some really good amateur teams, which are know nation wide.

So much fail in this topic I can't even begin where to start.
1. There's no point in practicing non-stop hours and hours of nonconstructive practice that just frustrates you. You will advance faster in practices if you actually enjoy them
2. 3-4 hours is enough if it is constructive and you do not waste time doing things you don't need to (case and point: WemadeFox practice 10 hours a day, but there are youtube videos of them practicing surf maps... seriously, there's no point in that shit. Waste of time).
3. You say people are polluting and plaguing CS by not practicing enough and playing for fun? Honestly, talking about ruining a scene is a bit rich coming from a guy that's admitted to cheating.

1. Nice attitude. So everytime you don't want to do something, or everytime something is a 'chore' for you, you decide not to do it? Prime example of laziness right there. Neglecting to do something just because you don't want to do it.
2. 3-4 hours is NOT enough, no matter what quality because I can assure you, fnatic practices as much, if not more than 3-4 hours, and that is with far higher quality of practice than you can dream. They have the privalage of playing with other top teams in practices and applying their practices against the best of the best. That makes their practices that much better, as well as the teamates they practice with are of the best as well.
3. I've done more harm than good my friend, and that was close to a decade ago when I thought I was going to decide to quit the game. I put my heart into the industry and I have it's best interest in mind. :)

1. If it becomes a chore, don't do it. It's not constructive. A job, no matter what, should not be a chore to pay bills, and neither (defiantly not) should e-sports. You will not further skill by hating what you do, I don't care how many hours you put in, it's all to do with the sides of the brain, and if you start getting into the wrong side (by making it a chore), you will be practicing mistakes (no matter how structured you are. You will get frustrated at things going wrong and it will snowball. Everyone needs breaks).
2. It's all muscle memory at the end of the day, and 3-4 hours of constructive practice in which you don't waste time is ultimately more valuable then playing pubs for 10 hours a day. I can guarantee that fnatic don't put in 10 hours of CS a day. Maybe close to events, but they would simply burn themselves out if they did it year-long. Again, practicing ANYTHING is more about a mindset and physical well-being which is why many pro-gamers spend a lot of time at gyms and doing real-sports not becoming a bedroom-bound blimps
3. Your best interest isn't doing anything to further CS, certainly not telling everyone that they suck and need to put more hours in. I suggest you find a different route if you really want to further e-sports

Maybe you havn't noticed this. But fnatic is fnatic... they don't need 10 hours a day anymore bud. They replace quantity with quality, something that is impossible for all of us because we are not fnatic. We don't have teamates with an ultimate understanding of this game. We don't have the opportunity to play against the best players in the world in practice scrims to apply what we practiced. They can get away with it because 1. they are already at the top and 2. they are among the top, and can practice in better quality.
Secondly, muscle memory? Muscle memory is the development of a paticular muscle or group of muscles' familiarity with certain incremental movements. Practice is not just about muscle memory, unless all you practice is aim maps. Practice is supposed to be about evolving through a common goal. Getting better together with every fiber in your bone. If you even slack off practice for one moment it throws off the tone set in your head. And it has to be lasting, meaning it has to be a complete mental workout to the extent of near exhaustation. And such a thing can not be accomplished in a mere 3-4 hours unless you are fnatic and get to play amongst the most brilliant minds in the game. You need to work your brain to it's threshold and beyond or it won't develop a beter understanding.

*facepalm*
The argument you're giving is that you have to practice non-stop until you're amazing, and then stop. I can guarantee you that even the most work-hard fnatic player never did 10+ hours everyday. At the most 5-6 by themselves, but if we're talking about practicing as a team (which is what we are after all), you will find NO team that workshops for 10 hours a day, everyday.
Muscle memory is an example of what I'm talking about. Yes it's a direct relation to aiming, but MEMORY is what counts and 10 hours of continual non-stop practice everyday no matter how structured is NOT the way to go about it. 3-4 hours of structured combined with other exercise is. Yes, a continual "brain workout" is good, but not 10hours of non-stop chore. That's just how the brain works. It gets more out of enjoying short and frequent structured practice rather then sitting at a table for 10 hours straight.
If you genuinely want to see practice schedules that work the brain hard, just watch Korean Starcraft. They practice many hours sure, but it's working on builds and tactics with structure, and they still find it important to exercise and do other things. If you want some fun, look up pro Quake3 player's profiles on QuakeLive and see what matches they're playing. They play frequently, but NEVER more then 4 hours a day
Your posts are increasingly sounding like fnatic fanboy material. Seriously, any successful clan in the past or present will never have put in 10 hours non-stop everyday at any point in their career. Lets agree to disagree

Thats the thing though. Certain players out there enjoy becoming mentally exhausted over long 10 hour practices for the games they play competitively. It makes them feel like they are working hard for what they want and it makes them want it more and more. And those kind of people are the one's bound to succeed.
Yeah and those (few) certain players get bored of the game, burn out and then fail
Really? Right now I'm pretty sure those are the players that are at the top.
Who then? I'm expecting a reply like fnatic, but we all know that they don't play CS for 10 hours everyday.
Then most epic part of this thread is you quote fatal1ty and yet he's burned out and hasn't done anything of value ingame recently. That plus if you search his QL-profile, you'll see all he plays is FFA (yeah that's right, a FUN-mode of QL)

Can you not read? Really? I said fnatic does not play 10 hours a day anymore because they have earned the privalage of replacing quantity with quality. They are among the best and that way practices and practice scrims are far more efficient in a whole other realm. But to get to where they are, I know that teams like fnatic did play 7-8 hours a day to initially get to the professional level.
Can you not read? Nobody in their right mind would believe that fnatic sat around for 8 hours everyday at anytime and if you do then you're just digging a hole.
Again, my point still stands that you say people playing comp games for fun are polluting the scene, yet you have people like fatal1ty playing ONLY fun matches on QL. Does that mean he's polluting the game, or just having fun (you know, that thing you do on a game)?
At the end of the day, this thread boils down to you want EVERYONE playing CS to try and become top players when really, the vast majority doesn't and you're only preaching to yourself (and obviously your methods aint working because we have yet to see you play a torny)

Where are mmmmmmickie and blixty to join Fodder in his way of life?
Troll spotted -.-
i like how he goes from saying "us" to "you" as soon as he talks about being lazy. tell us FODDER, what LAN accomplishments have you?
I am not lazy. I can assure that as a fact. However I say "us" because most of us have not seen the success fnatic has. For me, the paticular major problem is there is no LAN events in Florida anymore, the last LAN center near here shutdown a month ago. And no teams are serious online, therefore its an almost complete dead end.
they are shutting down because you ddint attend ur local lan wen it was around. your preachen about putting in work?
and also what leagues are u in? what team are you on? going pro on findscrim? why dont u play esea? bro just quit the bs fameing urself. let it go fodder. u think u can get peoples attention in esports from reading a thesaurus all day and have a good vocabulary.
Honestly if you're not getting payed for cs right now then you may as well give up trying to go pro and start looking for a new career.
Is anyone else amused by the fact that no-namer, Cal-o level player, and notorious hacker is giving advice on how to become a pro gamer? when he himself has never accomplished anything and never will.
FODDER you've never done anything lol?
except get caught cheating online, grats on that
except get caught cheating online, grats on that
I was never formally caught cheating. I ADMITTED to it years ago and it ended years ago, around 4-6 at the count now. There is already enough people going around cheating in my name as it is still (trolls will unfortunately always be plentiful, Hell people still cheat under names like n0thing and weym0).

THIS WAS POSTED A YEAR AGO. 4 - 6 YEARS ARE YOU KIDDING ME? You are a no body who came out of no where about a year or two ago and cheated his balls off and constantly insisted he was legit, you would go to far as to lie and say you taught players like storm. Everyone in the entire U.S. knew you cheated. It's not like people were like oh that kids kinda fishy. It was a known fact, you cheated; blatantly.

There's a few things that are funny about this video. First off, the only two teams I have ever been with was MRD and BMW, and also Increadibles (if you count my Florida LAN team). On that same silly note, when I asked the supposed creator of this video for the actual demoes the Steam ID that was of the player in the server claiming to be was a high 8 digit. I have one account and one account alone that I've had for as long as I can remember and it sure as hell is not a blistering 20 mill 8 digit. Supposing this video was made a year or two ago like you said it wouldn't be too my suprise at all that this is a troll attempt. I remember the DVT GotFrag troll crew made a team entirely of fake aliases, called West Coast Cutters (or something like that), and one of the players on that roster for CAL-IM was posing as me. The whole pose-as-FODDER-when-you-decide-to-cheat phase has died down a lot, probably because the trolls who got most of the rumors about me started in the first place have probably quit the game by now. I still see occasional scrims however posing as players like n0thing, weym0, myself, all the time (who I can only assume are trolls who think this old running gag is still clever). In fact I unfortunately just played a scrim like that before yesterday come to think of it. And about 2 hours ago I saw a cheater in the CSGoodies deathmatch cheating under my name (incorrectly written thankfully). So there is still a lot of crap that goes around but it is thankfully dieing down. Yeah, I cheated ages ago, but I put to an end and I've LANNed since then and am doing everthing in my power every day to put my heart into this industry. So drop it bud. ;)
If the only people that play cs are the ones that want to go pro like u suggest should happen, and people that only play for fun quit, there would be no scene. And with no scene there is no sponsors. No sponsers no tournaments and no pros to spend your countless number of hours practicing. Your brilliant idea is infact a terrible one.
It does not matter if there is no scene. How many people honestly even watch the matches? Or are active members of the website? The EG site has like 1 or 2 posts per news article and has virtually NO web traffic. The coL website is the same. Most ESEA matches get less than 100 spectators unless its literally the very final map of the ESEA LAN finals, and even then it gets a pitiful 800-1000 spectators. 1000 spectators out of the entire North American CS scene = a virtually nonexistent 'scene' anyways. So it wouldn't make any difference if everyone who wasn't serious just quit. In fact, it'd be better for the community if anything, because then there wouldn't be any obstacles for those who do care and can more easily find players who are also serious and make teams with one another.
And on top of that, 95% of the scene in America plays in CEVO-Free. So that 95% might as well not even exist because it is doing nothing but hurting CEVO and the rest of the scene. So yes, if you arn't serious, please quit.

Which is why North America still hosts so many big tournaments for all the pros here right?
It just got done hosting EM America didn't it? And like I said, 95% of the non-serious players are draining CEVO of it's resources. 95% of these players(almost 600 teams last season) are all in CEVO-Free. There is more teams in CEVO-Free every season than every other division combined. So basically all of these non serious players are just a bunch of leeches. How many of them actually support the top teams by watching matches or being active members on their sites? Very little, maybe 2% of that 95% which is practically nothing. All of the non serious players need to quit playing in leagues and stick to ESEA pugs and regular scrims and public play. Plain and simple. They are draining leagues like CEVO of it's resources with no return investment by bombarding CEVO-Free, they are polluting the way for those who are actually serious and want to go somewhere, and the list goes on.
You mean the tournament run by a mainly european orginization that pulled in top NA teams like NERDSMASHERS, kindred, etc.?
Some people play cs for competition. Not necessarily to become the best in the world. Most people who play cs cant commit that kind of time. The 600 teams in cevo-f know that they arent going to win but want to play in a league where there matches arent going to have a guy using a para walling them in the head from across the map (unless its lurppis). Playing video games is supposed to be for fun and entertainment. The competitive aspect of cs is the funnest part about it and what really sets it apart from any other game which is why people still choose to play it over other games. I dont see how people playing in a divsion that cevo decided to offer for these type of people is "polluting the way" for those who want to go somewhere... If anything it just keeps more people interested in the game beacuse they can actually play structured and strategic cs rather then an esea pug where everyone is worried about their fpr and refuses to enter a bombsite until someone else does or a pug where 20% of the people cheat or are afk the entire time.

Gee... maybe get off your ass and play this game like you mean it?
dumbest sentence i've ever read

Stop replying to this idiot, he's an obvious troll. I kind of feel sorry for him, if he does actually play 10hours a day, and still can't even get in the mediocre US teams (i'm talking about esea-i teams, none of them are good), he must have some sort of special needs.
Apart from the Korean/Chinese teams, none of the top teams play more than 45 hours over two weeks.
You're young I guess, in a few years you will realise how stupid and idiotic you sound.
Apart from the Korean/Chinese teams, none of the top teams play more than 45 hours over two weeks.
You're young I guess, in a few years you will realise how stupid and idiotic you sound.
That's because the top teams have earned the privalage of replacing quantity with quality now that they are among the best. More efficient practices can be down because now you are practicing amongst your teamates who are now top players, and you have the option of playing other top international teams to apply what your team went over. Most people do not have this privalage and before they made it to the top I can assure you that as they were up and commers played at least 8-10 hours a day.
No, they didn't, take a look at ProZaC, a Q3 player, who quit for over a year, played a few casual games in CTF/TDM over the year (perhaps an hour a week) then came back for one tournament and dominated, simply because if you have the skill, it doesn't matter how many hours you put into a game. If you have to put 8-10 hours a day of CS just to be at a top level, then this really isn't the game for you.
That had absolutely nothing to do with what I just said... and that last statement is incorrect. Anyone can and should be able to make a living off of anything. It comes down to how bad they want it, dedication.
That's not correct. You can make money from playing games, but, you need the initial talent to get to that stage, nobody, unless they have no job, no school, and live with their parents/guardians (who don't care that who they are looking after plays a game for half the day) it is impossible to do what you say to get to a certain level, there's just not the time in the real world. Bringing up prozac was proving your idiotic point very wrong, top players DON'T have to practice 8hours or more a day, they never have.
I know you're trying to troll, but at least come up with a better response next time, it's fairly boring responding to such a pathetic reply.
I know you're trying to troll, but at least come up with a better response next time, it's fairly boring responding to such a pathetic reply.
Ever consider the possibility that you can easily transfer to schools have a leaiant view on attendance and have less straineous hours? Ever consider the possibility that prozac got lucky? Some people have natural talent. I'm not denying that. Whoever said I was? But the whole prozac thing does absolutely nothing towards your arguement. But your assumption that not a single pro player has ever practiced 6-8 hours a day when they were up and commers and undiscovered to get noticed is complete blasphemy. There are very few players out there who are natural talents. Most pros have had to work hard (6-8 hours a day) to get to where they are. ONCE THEY GET THERE, quality replaces quantity in hours and more gets done and the learning curve spikes big time. prozac was lucky, nothing more, and he has absolutely no significant baring on this discussion anymore.
If you took the time to read my posts correctly, you would realise it does. I presume you are one of these people who have played CS as their first competitive game? Since what you're saying is total bs. ProZaC won because he is naturally talented, he had the initial talent, worked on getting it to work within Q3, and then didn't have to practise much if at all to stay at that level. That's how the best players are made, sure, some of the top players in CS today probably did play 6-8 hours a day (only a few days a week) to perform well in a certain tournament, but this idea of having to play a certain amount of hours to get to a certain level is ridiculous. Playing 2 matches against people of your level, and higher a day will be more constructive than anything I can imagine you will do with 8-10 hours.. look at WMF, they're burnt out, the organisation they play under requires their players to play a minimum amount of hours a day and they spend this doing random stuff like surf maps, and aim maps, but the problem is there is not one other team that plays the amount of hours that they do so they can't practise against teams at their level for even 20% of their time played.
If you're playing 8-10 hours a day, you're wasting your time, there is nowhere in this world that you can find teams to practise against that are good enough for that whole amount of time.
I wish you luck, if anyone is willing to give up as much of their time to a game where you shoot terrorists, they deserve to be a top player, in america at least, that shouldn't be so hard.
I agree with you on one thing, quality practise > amount of practise, and that extends to whatever level of gaming you are doing, there is absolutely no need to play as much as you suggest. The suggestion that casual players should leave the competitive scene is just ignorant, having the amount of casual players that CS has brings the sponsorship to teams, if it was just filled with professional teams and no players (who have money because they have a real job) who just play a bit more casual but actually buy the gear the sponsors are trying to get across, should prove to you that your point is stupid.
CEVO-F teams bring sponsors to CS, because they are the players most likely to buy the goods, not the top players.

hey fodder i like what you're saying although its bringing quite some controversy you do make solid points every time. but i'm having a lot of trouble trying to accomplish this goal that we all seem to strive for. i'm constantly out looking for a team with players similar to me but as you know its hard in america. i do what i can like scrimming, ringing, ESEA, pugs, etc. to play with all kinds of people to learn but i cant seem to find a team that i want to play with. suggestions?
Unfortunately, if I knew the whereabouts of players as dedicated as myself that are not already professionals in America, I'd be playing with them. But people with the kind of determination that I have despite a majority of adversity are one in a million. Good luck on your hunt though.
i didnt like your first sentence so i didnt bother to read the rest

Lets list how many dumb points fodder has to make
-He thinks playing 8 hours a day 5 days a week makes you a better player. Versus say 3 - 4 hours in a day.
-He thinks fnatic and the likes actually practice 8 hours a day in a week all the time.
-He thinks its good for CS to have less players.
-People who play the game for fun shouldn't play the game. (remember its a game)
I'm sure theres more but im too lazy to pick them out. point is fodder is an idiot, and every progamer has a different insight into the game. Yeah fatality practices a lot. But I know theres one u.s. pro ,can't think of his name right now, he literally would just show up to tournaments and own while he was attending college. He wouldn't practice hard or anything. I know walshy from halo said it's better to play only a couple of hours than burn yourself out and get fustrated playing the game. Look at WeMadeFox; they're a team who practice a lot. Maybe the only CS team who actually does play 8 hours a week consistently, and look how well they do in the pro scene.
Also I forgot; even fatality didn't play hardcore 24/7 He only grinded a month before an upcoming match. He did not play like that all year round.

With a strong mind that enjoys a mental workout and can constantly be alert and ready to learn and improve yes, 8 hours is better than 4. For the right type of player, more is better.
Maybe you just can't read but I said teams like fnatic today used to play that many hours a day to get to where they are now when they were up and commers. They have EARNED the privalage of replacing quantity of hours with quality as they now have the best teams in the world to play against at their disposal to apply what they practice as a team on.
I think it's good for the leeches that play this game and drain leagues and events of their valuable time with no return investment need to go. CEVO-Free makes no profit, and of course last season it had close to 700 teams registered, which is far more than any other division combined. And CEVO-Free was not making one red cent out of this. In fact, if anything they lose money because whomever places well in CEVO-Free gets free admittance into CEVO-Open, which in turns leads to a loss of profit and all of the resources used to accomedate these teams goes wasted and in the red.
Plus, leagues are supposed to be for competitive teams that want to go somewhere. If you are not a serious team or player, just stay the Hell out of leagues then and stick to ESEA scrim teams, ESEA pugging, off-client scrims, and that whole like. Don't obscure the way for those trying to go somewhere. It's already hard enough trying to find the diamonds in the rough.

Perhaps you can't read or you really are just that stupid. Enough with the pseudo intelligence you aren't fooling anyone. Fnatic, I know for a fact ,through interview discussions, still may practice 8 hours a day for a week. This is also known as boot camping, to prepare for a big event. Obviously they can't find time to do this every event, and obviously they don't play this intensely when there isn't a tournament approaching. You're just a tool fodder. A miserable soul who lives his life on the internet and fails so hard at making up facts and proposing them as truths.
That's just one of the false statements you made. I could waste my time refuting the rest of what you had to say. But honestly, I don't have the time. You're just blissfully ignorant.

Your response had nothing to do with what I posted, if anything the one statement you did make about fnatic was agreeing with me. So I don't see what the point of whatever you just tried to conjour up as a coherent thought was. You agreed with me and proceded to call me a tool. Your response was a completely out of context ramble that had nothing to do with anything I said.

Quote straight from your post. You really are daft. Fnatic never played the game 8 hours a day none stop. All they do is boot camp. Just like any other good team. They're practice regime hasn't changed for years. All the euro CS teams pretty much do the same thing as fnatic also. Again the only CS team to put in a ridiculous amount of hours is WMF.

When I mean fnatic, I mean the players individually as THEY themselves were up and commers... not fnatic as a whole in it's current state...
And what exactly leads you to believe that those players played for 8 hours a day consistantly?
Fodder, European players don't really practise that much.
PG practises like 5 hours a week?
PG practises like 5 hours a week?
Again, you are not reading what I am saying. I am saying before the players became professional and became known as whom they are today, when they were unknown they practiced hard to get where they are until they earned the privalage of replacing quantity of hours put into the game with quality teamates and practice scrims against other top teams. Teams like fnatic don't need to play 8 hours a day at this time because they have the best practice that is to be had.
Again you are dancing around the question so I will repeat it. Do you have any SOLID proof besides opinion that they practiced 8 hours a day consistently to become a pro player?
why should he provide any proof beside his opinion? its a blog for gods sake, hes just stating his opinion :/
Because hes stating things like they are facts, and not his opinion. It would be fine if he said, I believe if one wants to excel blah blah whatever
they must play 8 hours a day for the rest of their life. But what he is actually saying is all the pros practiced this much to get where they are so go out and waste your life trying to be like them when in reality. Maybe they are just talented at what they do?

fair enough
I just think there aren´t many that will give up on school or job to play counter-strike. You can count people on your hands that make a living from gaming. Sure cs is awesome game but for how many years will from now will cs be there?
I think people are smart enough to get them selves fine education and not give up on school to make it in a computer game wich you can maybe maybe make a living from if they isolate from there friends and only hang out with few guys they know trough the computer.
People really laugh at you, when you say hey common people let´s make a living out of a computer game. They know how stupid it sounds. A guy with good education and has a good work makes on each month what a professional cs player makes in a year. Take a doctor or a lawyer for an example. And what will a professional cs player do when cs is gone? Work in a supermarket? That sounds grate
I´m not saying this because I hate cs or suck on it. Actually I´m quite good. And I think cs is the best computer game ever made.

The only professional player who posted on this blog has disagreed with you completely. You are the definition of a troll, stop posting on these forums before you ruin them just like you did the Gotfrag ones.
