The decisive face-off - CSP vs CS:GO
With probably the biggest moment in the Counter-Strike story closing in, I feel like it's my duty as a moderator to give a few words on the current situation and how we all should handle what is coming.
CSPromod
Long awaited and hated for its inefficacy to deliver what it promised, the CSP project had its ups and downs. With the most recent version finally getting the lift-off it needed, it's important to realize that the team incharge of the project is working on outdated and limited tools, and the progress they make has to come from the community with your feedback.
You guys can't really expect a polished game or a perfect 1.6 if all you do is try 10 minutes and say it's bad and don't explain what is wrong. Feedback is about identifying the problems and pointing out how it should work, and not say "It sucks."
Every time there is a release of a new version there's a pattern, at first there's denial (prior release), then curiosity (after release) and then hate (after playing).
This time let's change that, there's no reason for you guys to get angry because the game isn't good. CSP is a mod, since there's no money involved they can't really follow the "They already bought the game, now we'll just run away with the money and leave the game to die" line of thought, the development doesn't stops after release. The satisfaction of the community is what drives them to keep working.
These are people spending countless hours of their free time over the years trying to recreate a game they love in a new engine, so the CS legacy can live on.
In the long run, whether the mod turns out to be a huge success or failure they at least deserve your utmost respect and gratitude, after all, all they wanted was to keep the essence of CS alive, and what they got over the years was hate and discrimination like they were trying to kill CS.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
I'm not going to lie, the past 9 months of beta haven't exactly created the perfect image of CS:GO that we wanted, whether it was the lack of updates or the constant lies being told by the developers, the fact is that CS:GO still doesn't has a solid community. By now any other competitive game would already have several tournaments and teams dedicated to the game, which isn't the case with CS:GO.
With the game being just 16 days away, it's pretty much now or never by Valve. With the most recent (to be released) update reaching the 20 pages of changes, let's hope this time they don't release an unfinished product like in past.
If you enjoy playing CS:GO it's up to you to make your new community grow, the lack of a CS:GO "The International" or any other major tournament will make the transition to CS:GO not as smoothly as one would like, since the players will have to move because of their interest with the game and not because of the money involved.
There's no doubt that the game will be huge in the first week of release due to the massive hype, but if Valve doesn't step up their game (literally), the downfall could start really soon after release.
If the game ends up being a disappointment to you, please don't direct your anger towards the people of that community, everyone is entitled to their opinion and taste, you are no better than anyone else.
Whatever is your choice, let's keep the harmony between all communities :)
Cheers.

Everything you said was correct and apt to the current situation.
Good blog :)
Good blog :)
So true about the CSP team not getting the credit for what they are trying to do for us, and regarding CS:GO I really dont think the release of the final game will be so different from what the beta is now :/ for me its really bad.
CSP all the way!
CSP all the way!

the date of release will be decided tomorrow or today i've heard.
CSP development? what development?
1 month ago they were saying we're going to release 1.09 in 2 weeks. Before that they promised new updates for every month. They'renot living in reality.

Please realise that usually with any development of a game, when one bug is fixed, more are created.
It's just the process of elimination i'm afraid.
It's just the process of elimination i'm afraid.
The biggest problem is that this is all over again and again, i remember it when 1.4(5) was comming about about 2 years ago or so ...
Problem is that CSGO doesnt need to be a best game now, but valve is working on it last month so much... And litterally they did more job in few monts than CSP team in a years... Thats the biggest problem...
CSP is just slow, im not bashin it, ye somebody can make an excuse that they are not as big as valve/HP but thats just reality and the whole problem.

I can only say that after 1.09. Releases will be done differently. I can't explain how cause it's very hush hush at the moment but it won't be like any previous versions.
Valve is a game developing company, the people making CSP are doing it in their free time.
so don't make useless talks
Quote me where I have.
Goodluck with ur work m8, im cheering for CSPromod and also will play and will make it famous around here=)
lets hope u make more more more similiar to cs 1.6 and its going to be a new cs 1.6 where alot of pro players will found their selfes there:)
im waiting for the new version and not only me i've heard that in one week there were thousand of downloads of cs promod beta!
I love the job that u are doing. congratz u and ur team :) u got my support

oh god...
it's this fucking arrogant kid from turkey again who thinks the CSP devs would owe him something. who the fuck are you to talk like that? Why do you think you deserve to get a good game?
Be thankful for what you get and stay quiet. cunt.

In order to teach a lesson one has to be a worthy teacher, don't you think?
And calling someone names isn't what I would call being worthy. Thank you.
And calling someone names isn't what I would call being worthy. Thank you.
So what? Just because it has had a lot of delays doesn't means they aren't working on it.
Let me present you Valve time:
CS:GO closed beta - In October - 1 of December
CS:GO release - Early 2012 - August 2012
so on so forth
And this is a company that has 30 people working on the game non-stop in their offices. Now imagine a group of 10 people scattered around the world working on old tools, facing bugs that they aren't aware of because they didn't developed the SDK etc.
There has never been a mod that was released on time, especially those who try to remake/mimic another game's gameplay, Black Mesa for example.

You are contradicting yourself.
Valve hired HPE to develop CS for Xbox, PS3 and PC. "Just because it has had a lot of delays doesn't mean they aren't working on it."

I was talking about CSP in that sentence, not CS:GO.
Well it applies to HPE too, they are working on multiple games.
I'm still trying to figure out how I am contradicting myself.
I was just proving that even a game developer misses their deadlines.

I liked your blog, but tbh I didn't like CS:GO since I watched the trailer, it was really suck, but I liked CSP, but I see that most of pro players are swetching to CS:GO not CSP
I honestly believe CSP will take off as soon as the new source SDK (the one used in CSGO) comes out and CSP gets ported to that engine. That would make a sick game, best of both worlds.
before i see 1.09, cs:go is better for me now~
Try before judge
I will do everything I can (which unfortunately isn't that much), to make CSP succeed. It's up to us guys, if we want it to succeed, it will.
Excello will have CSP tournaments, playstar is looking for swedish CSP-tournament admins atm and IHL and #cspro will have gatcherchans.

afaik excello are working on gathers for CSP too ;)
the problem is that csgo fanboys are all over hltv saying stuff like , csp is a mix bettwen css and csgo (LOL) or csp is shit go play csgo
csp is good... cs:go is good but cs 1.6 >>>>> csp and cs:go
but if i had to choose between the qs and cs: go, i choose csp
but if i had to choose between the qs and cs: go, i choose csp
Alot of people say that cs promod is like 1.6 and it wont gain attention so what??Dota 2 is same as Dota 1 and still people are crazy about it..and cs promod got amazing graphics with cool gameplay
Thats what the cs community needed =p
CSP
you admins should make an area to csgo vs csp blogs...
csp
Funny how so many people here talk about csp but actually they haven't even tested it. If you really think that csp is a better/worse of the two then you must have some concrete experience behind it, otherwise let your opinion to be just in your mind.
Join #csp.eu for example to play mixes or go to public and show us that you really played it. Words don't do much. We need real action to make the scene grow and more opinions with concrete experience, not just what a random person told you or what you read from random website.

CSP really has potential, but the devs and the community cannot give up on it. We need constant patches and community driven feedback. If that happens, you bet we have Counter Strike back in the scene.
CSP HAD potential its been around for 3 years, And please tell me 1 LAN that had promod. Volcano has been working his ass off on making the maps better Nuke is so much more T sided but also can be CT sided if you know how to play properly, GO is going to be hard to adjust to because of the maps etc etc but from what volcano posted hes going to tweak every map that needs to be tweaked so all the useless crap will be taken out so it makes the game more fluid. For example CURRENTLY train is favored to whoever has an awp because the awper can see the legs of anyone comming outside before that person can spot the other. And the only issue is going to be that 1.6 is a faster paced game and GO is a little more strategic and you have to place the right shots.
Maps are the last thing CS:GO should fix I'm afraid.
Well valve's been tweaking some stuff without us having to download an update, like a few glitches were patched and i didnt have to download any updates But on what i heard the recoil is going to be more straight forward so no more zigzag shots / Smokes will be a little bit lighter so people from inside can see out without getting rammed, flashes will be 6.5 seconds instead of 8.5
All stuff i HEARD not confirmed yet.
All stuff i HEARD not confirmed yet.
there was 1 lan that promod was featured, navi played against a team i forgot, esc or fnatic i think. and csgo isn't going to get fixed, trust me (console port). i have played the game... oh btw emre, the human eye does not "see only max 60 frames"...
It is quite understandable that there aren't any tournament as, if I remember correctly, Valve already stated that they do not consider CS:GO as a competitive game but as a casual game. So it is up to the tournaments' staff to decide and with the hetergeneous feedback most things do still look too shady around this game.
As for CSP, schedule should indeed be improved (and as far as I know after 1.09 there should be some change in that direction). But I think if the move of the CS 1.6 to the Source engine is already a challenging task an even more challenging one still awaits them. And I do not know if the CSP dev staff even thought of it yet.
That more challenging task would be to evolve CSP to a more up to date scenario than the one when CS 1.6 was created.
In my case I consider(ed) one of the parts of the task being the improvement of the weaponry, necessary even for CS 1.6 itself taking into account how much other games have evolved in that field.

They actually consider CS:GO as their best CS version, or at least they want it to be.
For what I read about CS:GO (I wish I could be testing it and build an opinion on my own ;'( ) it seems there is still a long road ahead even though many hopes are put into the upcoming patch.
We will have to see what happens then and if that day is the long awaited turning point (not much in a CS:GO closer CS 1.6 sense most likely though).

Man this forum is facing turk invasion(not to be racist just look at the flags)...
People saying "CSP HAD POTENTIAL 1/2/3/4 years ago"...wtf are you guys saying? How...HOW can you even compare the old versions with the 1.08 which is REALLY FINE...and from what I've heard about the 1.09 , it's gonna be a revolution.
You people just tried the game 10min in the past versions and now you are too lazy to try the 1.08 and see how it is...
This game is the future of Counter-Strike 1.6 , this little team of student developers made an awesome job(even tho in more time which is fine thinking that they aren't even paid or have 24/7 to keep developing)...This game is made by gamers for gamers and not by Valve which isn't listening to anybody and it's making a new CS:Source game , since instead of putting the 1.6 gameplay and the Source graphics they just updated the graphics and kept the shitty gameplay.
Before talking shit , you should respect and thank the developer team for their effort in the past years for trying to keep alive a game which is currently dying.
We need the community to grow , and play the game , and keep helping , cause there isn't any game at the moment which can be better than CSPromod , except Counter-Strike 1.6 itself.
...Change the settings , save the rates etc , and see the game is identical to 1.6 but with cool graphics...and think it's not even finished yet so the best is yet to come.
Think about it , and support the game , if you don't want to quit definitively from playing a REAL "Counter-Strike" GAME.
CSPromod to ESEA , CSPromod to every tournament , CSPromod for the future <3 ~

Not quite. It is a nice effort, but the timing sucks. They just took too long to make something playable. I know they're outnumbered compared to other "studios", but the free market doesn't care. People will play whatever is in front of them and not think: "hey, these guys worked their asses off for years, now we will play the game as a sinal of respect". Besides, the graphics are much worse that CS:GO's and the casual player will not like it. Don't forget that before there are pros, one needs to be a casual player and have fun. Which leads me to ....
CS: GO have a team behind and can make changes in a week or two, if needed. If they REALY want to COMPLETELY satisfy the 1.6 community, they would have done it by now. They are are trying to appeal to a wider segment of the FPS population, making the game "easier" (to us). That sucks for us, lovers of 1.6, but that's the harsh truth.

csgo has a team that made css. csgo has an upper boss (valve) telling them to make the game realistic, to tie the game down and appeal to the console casual gamers. what more is there to say?
also, csp can get ported to csgo's graphics once csgo releases their full SDK developer package (if that is what it is called).

Okay I don't think I will play go but im just figured why people expect it to jar a community already. It's in beta... There's WAY more people wishing they could have a key then those who actually have one. A community like this grows much slower utility the game is released
being playing 1.08 for while, just checked steam, the last time is 2011/12/01, then comes graduating, job,,,anyway, will definitely try on 1.09
and good blog, enjoy reading!
