Hey HLTV.org! Its been a long time since my last blog, and I've missed writing blogs. Missed me?
This blog will mostly appeal to the community, asking questions about the future of competitive FPS in eSports.
Each and everytime I see a newspost or a hotmatch, with CS:GO in it, there's allways a lot of loyal CS 1.6 fans, who are writing "I dont care about CS:GO", hoping their comment will help stop CS:GO in getting big at some point.
Obviously, the activity of Counter-Strike 1.6 is falling in a dramatic rate, which is sad for all of us on this website, as we all are loyal 1.6'ers, who all love our game, and none of us wants to change our primary game.
But as we all know, everything and everyone has a start and an end. In Counter-Strike 1.6, the end is near, which is sad and all, but there's nothing we can do about it. We have GameGune comming up tomorrow, as one of the very last tournaments with CS 1.6 on the program, however, we will be seeing more tournaments in 1.6, as Game and Gadget Expo will be comming up in November in Fredericia, Denmark, which is arranged by the same guys behind Copenhagen Games aswell as FireCore LAN and probably also DreamHack Winter, possbily also with a Summer edition with 1.6 on the shedule.
What we dont know, is what will happend after those events.
Sponsors and organizations are pulling the plug on CS 1.6, and we need to move on at some point. We have a lot of oppitunities, we have StarCraft 2, LoL, DotA, HoN and a lot of other games we can play. But we also have Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Counter-Strike Professionel Modification, aka CS:GO and CSP.
We all know that CS:GO will be featured at ESWC, as the only Counter-Strike game at the World Championshop in France, and national qualifiers are already being arranged. While on CSP's side, there's nothing new at all. No tournaments, not even small ladders online.
As the blog comes to an end, here's my conclusion:
CSP is a way better game than CS:GO, but then again, CS:GO is not a bad game, if you give it a chance - and Im sorry to say it, but CSP will never grow big. It has outdated graphichs and it has been underway for so long. Its just too late. CS:GO on the other hand is under development and it will be the next big thing without a doubt. No more 1.6, no more Source. Its a hard fact to face, but we have to, in order to keep FPS games alive as eSports.
What my goal with this blog is, that I hope you guys will think an extra time next time you write "I dont care about CS:GO" - because you might just care for the game at some point. I myself have a BETA key, and I have played it alot, and its really not as bad as people put it. It does suck, if you only play it for 4-5 hours, but if you play around at least 20 hours, and get used to it, its not that bad. Its actually quite fun.

Ehh CS:GO is built on the same engine as CS:S and Promod. So CS:GO has outdated graphics too ;)

Thats a lie. CSS, TF2, CSP, HL2 and Portal are build on a 2005 graphichs engine called the Source engine, while Portal 2 and also CS:GO is build on the 2009 version of the engine, called Source2, with way better graphichs.
There's no such thing as Source2 :)

Shootmania players : 40 460 (I can provide screens )
CSGO players : peak today : barely over 1500.
Dont forget all the publicity about CSGO , let me ask you why so few people are playing it compared to shootmania which is also in beta?
Anyway you must be some source kid thinking he can "go big" in CSGO , that just laughatble and pathetic :D

Shootmania is nothing like CS, there no such thing as tactic in it. I saw the match played at E3, where Joe commentated and SpawN was playing, but it is nothing like CS. The guy with the railgun just need good reflexes and a decent aim, and he will win easily. Also, its 1v3 all the time, which basicly removes the tactical perspective as a team. Yes, you can create your own strats, but there will be no teamplay what so ever.
Also, keep in mind that its still early on the day (at least here, CET). There's plenty of time for people to play both games.

I dont get why you are having such a good time here. You have no argumentations and you are running away every time I ask you to tell me a bit about the game. There's no such thing as tactic perspective, and you know it.
The thing with Quake is, that you constantly must be avare of spawning armors, weapons, ammo etc., and you will know where your enemy will come all the time, if you know the maps, with the portals and such. Shootmania has no such thing, its just releasing people in an arena and killing them off.

yeah it has no such stuff as in quake , many people call this game being too "simple" : only 2,3 guns , no stuff to pick up , that true.
But me and the majority of people already playing this game consider this as something good , I always take stuff in a positive way you know.
Sure it's simple , but it may offer a new gameplay with mods that wont be compatible if you were able to pick up stuff.
Elite mode wouldnt work with the quake system , that for sure.

Don't even campare quake and shootmania. Cooller retired from professional gaming, he won't be playing any games. And the reason why are some quake pros switching is obvious - easy money. There are 4 top players in quake, 1 retired so 3 are left if they make shootmania team I have no trouble in guessing who is going to take that money.
One of the main things why quake is popular is movement. It's movement mechanics are SOOOOOOO FUCKING FUN. I can join server and just jump around map for 2 hours. In shootmania, however, movement is soo fucking bad.

yeah , i know that the players models suck , but in 1.10 [i think it's that the correct version] , they will be modified
in 1.09 the recoil was really good , 1.6 like , and the movement was improved too , i really liked that version .

ahahah , i would love to see that , i know that you can flash/smoke/decoy boost , i've made a couple of boosts with the decoy and flash with a friend on de_nuke , pretty fun to do it , but its kinda hard to 1.6ers :P

yeah the player models are made for the 1.6'ers just like the rest of the game but in particular they wouldnt touch on the models. that a big mistake from them. the models does not fit in the game. and imo they are smaller/thiner then in 1.6 / source? and the graphics of them are like their taken out of 1.6 640*480 and put in to source

i try just to be real and express my opinion. i'm not a hater of any game, i just want that this community remains unite.

I played shootmania for ~20 hours in the past week, was really looking forward to it. But, as a pretty good quake and cs player, I find shootmania the worst game in history of "competitive" fps games EVER. It has ZERO depth. And their official competitive format... Yeah, it's new, they are experimenting but it's the stupidest thing ever.
And that argument about players kinda sucks because it depends on how many keys are handed out. On my friend list 1% people have CSGO, while anyone who signup on shootmania will get key after 1-2 weeks. I don't like CSS(never played it) and I am not playing 1.6 actively for half a year, but I won't judge csgo because I haven't played it. And from watching 2-3 games I like it pretty much actually. It has good spectating options, better netcode, all that stuff around the game are exellent. But some mechanics in gameplay need some tweaking/reworking.

It has good spectating options, better netcode, all that stuff around the game are exellent. But some mechanics in gameplay need some tweaking/reworking.

I don't think so, shootmania looks like quake to me. If csgo gets as big as 1.6 then shootmania wont take the place of the biggest fps. imo

Im not gonna switch, stick to 1.6 before quiting following the matches even if there isnt too much nowadays or if not cs playing with the older versions of CoD/NFS Series with friends.

Well, I can tell you, that when I play CS:GO there's deffinetly a Counter-Strike feeling. And CSS players dont call it crap, why else would the top teams of the Source scene (teams like VeryGames, mousesport, mTw etc.) play the game when they get a chance?

you say you 'MUST' switch because money and sponsors change. that doesnt really make any sense to me. you will quit playing / making guis(:D) because the game is in the situation source was in 5 years ago? the game is still gonna be the same and that you cant enjoy without cs being #1 title in the world. :]

Quake and Painkiller have, they may not have lasted as long, in painkillers case, but multiple world championships.

Nice blog, I think if CS 1.6 really dies I will switch to another game, I already tried Shootmania and the game is awesome, much better than CSGO.
The thing about Shootmania is, that its not tactical, and in some ways not even a team based game, but comes up to individual skills at all times basicly (when you are 1v3 with railgun). It dont fell like Quake, neighter does it feel like CS. Its just.. Strange.

I'm not really a gamer as such. Probably, the only game i have ever played more than 40 hours is CS 1.6 because i fucking love it.
I played CSGO for around 30-40 hours as well but it doesn't feel as awesome to play. It's just some game trying to be Counter Strike. So, i'll just play 1.6 as long as i can find servers and decent opposition. Gaming for me will stop after that.

you recon that we seek a game with better graphics than 1.6 ,csp has it. i doubt that cs:go can succeed cs 1.6... i'll give it try and many will but to me teh game fails at being an e-sport title, atm.
I liked CS:GO till I played a match in it. Suddenly, it seemed to feel exactly like source again. I will try get a team for this and play a few more games before giving up on it though, as yeah, CS is unfortunately dieng, and Promod won't catch on :(

If Valve just improve the textures, the models graphics, the visual effects of the smoke, the HE explosion, etc of the 1.6 version WITHOUT TOUCHIN MORE THINGS like the sound, the movement, the recoil, the maps, even come bugs like the duckwalk (that is, the gameplay that makes this game amazing) and sell the improved 1.6 just a little bit more expensive than the older 1.6, they will obtain so more money than with this Call of Duty shitty copy which they called "CS:GO" and is worse than a kick in the balls.

The GoldSrc is very limited when it comes to visual improvements. The only way is a newer engine.
