A Shared Community & Why Have I been Banned/ Thread has been locked?
As I toss and turn in the night I recall so many questions asking the same thing recently, why the ban? Why are all the admins unfair and unjust? After spinning around in my blankets like a slow motion break dancer I have come to the conclusion that it's about time for a blog.
A Shared Community
As you can clearly tell, we have a few other forums such as the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive forum. Now you must think to yourself "This is a 1.6 website, why must we hear such rubbish". Well consider the fact there's a new Game filter available, and that those forums are there for a reason. It's no secret that members of this very community play other games such as CS:GO, CSP, CS:S and maybe even others. If they own their very own forum, not only are they free to express as they will (like the Off Topic forum) but they are entitled to. What's the point of having a forum of their own if they can't ask for help or talk about the game they enjoy playing? What gives you the right to judge what they like or do not like?
If you can't embrace the fact it's a shared community with different players for different games, then ignore them for the very least and stick to the 1.6 and Off Topic forum. If you get forum banned for harassing them, just imagine having a 1.6 section on a CoD forum and have 2000 people harassing you just for asking "what rates should I put in 1.6?"
It's their forum, keep it that way.
Sensitive Topics
Lately we've seen a lot of sensitive topics such as religion or race. Now it's not illegal to discuss creed, however consider how much work we put into keeping the forums clean when things spiral out of control. You may tell us "just delete the comments that are offensive" or "ban the people insulting the religion". I wonder, every time a thread is made that is very sensitive as a topic; do you see how many comments get deleted? Do you see how many people get banned? No.
Not only do we have to ban the people being overly racist or fascist, we have to ban the people responding to them with just as bad manners. Do people listen to the basic rule of "ignore them and an admin will see that they are taken care of" or do they decide to take things their own way?
Now which logically speaking is better to do, lock the thread and ask politely to find a less sensitive topic, or ban half of the hundreds of accounts that have posted on that thread for going against the rules? Don't forget that we mean to the community as much as the community means to us. You need us to keep the forum clean, we need you to handle yourselves.
Report System
Lately people don't seem to realize what they should report and not report. A lot of reports lately have been for very simple things such as people predicting match results and so forth, that's not a serious offense and please realize that we make an effort to check the report system.
As credit to fellow crew member Schypher, he has made a list of things you should or should not do on the forums:
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
Things that will make your comment deleted:
"first"/"second" comments
Any type of comment that resorts to insults as an argument, even if the person has a reason to act like that
Posting referral links (with immediate IP ban if abused)
Spamming on all threads/news (with ban)
Writing in Caps
Writing comments only in blod/italic - those features are only to highlight phrases or words, not the whole comments
Writing in other languages even if it's only a small part of the comment, this includes cursing in other languages (with possible ban if abused)
Replying to the first comment so that everyone can read it
Copy/pasting what was said on the chat during a match without adding a translation (if the teams are speaking in another language)
"neo > markeloff
loord < starix
pasha = edward"
Comments like this will be deleted, CS is a team based game and since there isn't a team with 5 f0rest's/neo's most of the matches also depends on who has the most practice on a certain map.
Posting/writing MEME's as an answer to someone
List of threads/blogs that will be deleted/locked:
Best "something" (config, gui, player) - there are TONS (and when I say TONS I'm not lying) of treads about this, just use the search function
Opening threads to disccuss a match - you can use the "Hot match" page for that.
Opening blogs to share a link/video/demo etc - the blog section is for users to post more extensive works, a debate about something, sharing his real life, his stories etc. Blogs only contaning one line of text and 10 videos, just one question, copy/pasted news/topic/older blog etc will be deleted without notice
Threads insulting players
Others:
In the movies forum section, please add a description of your video in the topic not in the first comment
Don't post videos on the movie section that weren't made by you
````````````````````````
If any of the above has been broken, then you are free to report as you please.
I hope you had a good read or at least some of it, and please if something happens... Just don't say we didn't warn you first.
Thank you.
If CS:GO and Source have their own sections in Forum CS: Promod should as well. I posted here so admins could see and as you are admin maybe you can do something about it.
About the blog i agree with those things as many people are making HLTV look bad with all these threads post i remember a few weeks ago people posting Religion dying, Nix0n dying etc, all these Portuguese fans about k1ck and fox, the CS dying thing and people dissing CS:GO, youre only making HLTV.org look bad which is completely different from what really is a great website with alot of great features: Dreamteam, all those statistics, movies, news, event coverages and all the good stuff that HLTV.org gives us.
The suggestion will be forwarded to Nomad. :)
i dun think CSP is big enuff to get a section of its own as yet.
and cs:go is ?
csgo has a lot more activity compared 2 csp. csp is under development. csgp is holding tournaments and abt to b officially released!
CS:GO is on beta stage, and here people like Promod better and HLTV.org has been posting news about updates, maps etc
1st of all thanks for finally considering us who don't want to see every day the threads that are talking about cs:go csp etc.Thanks very much for the Game filter and I recognise the effort you make.thanks for doing these things you mention + If you can please do me this favour : delete immediately the "Cs dying" threads.. thank you
about time some1 took notice!
Ban me, I have been naughty :'(
I will not fall for your kinky desires prebben!
I got 10 years ban for posting in old threads
The list above was written 10 months ago, I never thought the community would reach a new low so that's why it was never published, until now.
The rule is more oriented towards the hot match pages, but it will be applied to normal threads if necessary.
And while we're at it, stop with the "foxj" jokes.
I got ban, and I don't know the reason, I messaged three or four admins and they all didn't write me back, I didn't read all the blog, but I think giving the reason of the ban is gonna be great. Cheers HLTV
Well then, with these new rules, it makes clear that we should report everything that is bad right? Everything that offends will be reported then...
At least it seems like Schypher wants it --'
HLTV goes boring like this...
Nice Schypher , azia ftw just bcuz of some foxj jokes --'
P.S: I know there are some guys who abuse, but cmon... When you see ...>... jokes and you know it's just for fun, why delete them??
No sense of humor at all
Btw gonna give me a ban just bcuz you don't like what's written in here??
There are no new rules, these are the rules that we have always applied, we're just posting this so people can see what they do wrong and how they should act.
it makes clear that we should report everything that is bad right?
This is the problem right now, people think it's fine to do whatever they want, we're only asking for you to help us, if you find something offensive report it and we'll judge it.
If you guys really want to save what's left of the 1.6 community, you should really take care of your people and not shit on them every chance you got.
w0w really? Then why in 2 and half years maybe 3, I replied with memes and you never care about... and just a little time ago you gave me ban of 3 days? Did you rly needed all that time to give me the warning about HLTV not being a imagepost website? Or was it just because I "offended" you?
In anyway, there are lots of people who are worse than me and you don't touch them...
2nd : Dude, what's the problem of saying something when you know it's for fun and you obviously see that he's joking?
Can't you let stay those replies?
Just bcuz you are fan of foxj (don't really know but it looks like) doesn't mean we all have to...
I make fun of neo, pasha but poles know it's just for fun and majority of 'em just goes with the flow and they joke about Portugal or foxj and other stuff...
3rd: Chill out and learn when someone is just making fun or it is trying to offend someone else okay? You seem to be a fanboy who protects his idols 'till the end...
Meme replies were never really allowed, they were deleted when noticed, don't start with a conspiracy about it. Until a few weeks ago your nick wasn't "Memeguy", it was only after that that I started to notice that comments under your nick weren't really comments, but links. Your "forum activity" was basically 20 links.
In anyway, there are lots of people who are worse than me and you don't touch them...
And you know this how? You have no idea how much scum we remove from this website everyday.
Please, I stopped following the scene after MYM.swe disbanded, and the only time it was worth following the PT scene was when Bussifuori still existed.
You seem to really understand counter strike as a game a lot : P when bussifuori still existed our scene was pretty mediocre,apart from uprising k1ck bF were not a big deal,NG today would rape them
The x > x aren't even funny. Hardly any humor in them.
To your #26 comment: The moderators and the admins aren't as strict as this blog makes it sound. Sure, sometimes you might feel something is unfair, but usually it isn't. I also think you should be more supportive of the moderators. These guys make this website a much better place to stay. If you only saw 50% of the shit we delete, I'm sure you wouldn't want to hang around. My 5 cents anyway.
But seriously, I think some of these rules are a bit unnecessary. For example:
"neo > markeloff, loord < starix, pasha = edward"
Comments like this will be deleted, CS is a team based game and since there isn't a team with 5 f0rest's/neo's most of the matches also depends on who has the most practice on a certain map."
This argument doesn't make sense to me, because cs is a team based game we can not say a player is better than the other or discuss about it? So if I say Neo > RARA I'll be warned? And many of those comparisons are joking(like pasha>all, pasha biceps, foxj>all), they don't need to be taken seriously.
Posting/writing MEME's as an answer to someone
1 question: Why? So I'll be warned and take the risk of being banned if I answer to someone like "facepalm", "tell me more about", "dafuq", "oh god why" + many others or doing the same thing but with links to images?
Sometimes it looks to me like you guys are lacking a bit of sense of humor here.
I'm not complaining about admins' work, far from that, they do a very good job imo, I just think some things are unnecessary
I have not written the rules but according to what I believe, it means only posting links to memes rather than actually talking and using the forum as an actual forum and not a memecenter.
There's a difference between being funny and not being useful, soon people will be fed up of people not saying anything. There are more reports of Meme links than anything else on this site.
well i understand your point of view,but i think it would make sense ban someone for meme's if he is abusing them
reply to someone with a meme sometimes isnt that bad
reply to someone with a meme sometimes isnt that bad
If it has a purpose then sure, though you don't know how annoying it gets when you post threads asking for help and the only things people do are respond with memes making fun of him. That's just trolling/harassment but with pictures rather than words. Both which result in the same thing. People seem to believe that insulting with pictures rather than words lets them get away with breaking the core rules of not going overboard.
I mean if you post a picture of Pasha flexing his biceps and write "Poland Stronk!" and have a laugh, then sure. If you are posting "umad" and "idiot here" and "tl:dr" and "applause" memes which are the majority of memes on the site then that's trolling in it's purest form.
about meme's,i think it is better to send a meme to say how stupid someone is then say by words
things like
recoil cfg,im using it and im loving,and you reply with a meme,and even that he doesnt know english he will understand it
same goes for x>z
i think it is stupid why we cant say that someone is better then another and those jokes like pasha biceps too op,i dont think they are bad... sometimes you smile a bit reading them
personally i think Schypher is a bit mad...
yeah, when someone is clearly pissed off I like to post some "umad" pictures to troll him a little bit :), I like to post some "facepalm" pictures(specially my favourite: the tactical facepalm http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EM74HdawdfQ/T6_I2PFD3pI/..
But I never did it to disrespect anybody, it just feels to me like some admins are too humorless with jokes and little troll attempts sometimes(don't wanna quote names here :DD)
That's right. Hope that some people stop with their bad attitude so HLTV can be a better and more nice site :)
admins > umad?
to be honest i think most of you act on the internet a bit different and the forum admins are mostly likey annoyed by kids so they ban more often if its justified or not. and thats a good thing for the majortiy
about the report you still cant report thread/topic creaters
thats a huge -
Can you please explain why can't somebody reply with a MEME ? Is that sensitive/insulting/stupid/another language/spam etc. ? I don't think so. IMO stupid rule.
Make a voting or ask other hltv.org'ers and you will see that nobody will support that because it doesn't make any sense
I get your point. Could have named it something else or explained it though to avoid confusion ;)
As I said it's not a rule I made up from my head, I am using simple logic to why it would be necessary. If a more accurate and detailed version of the rule gets given to me I will edit it in. Until now it's generalized though every admin has their own level of strictness, they don't all do the exact same thing so some people might think it is acceptable and others won't.
Have a good day
Naa, i'm gonna miss the f0rest > neo :'(
just a warning to fellow hltv users. you get banned without any warnings whatsoever as a result of commenting on a old topic somebody else had dug up. little did I realise it until it was too late. just dont do that or you will enjoy a good ban. I just clicked on the hot thread and wtf this shit is old and posted something to the guy who digged it, and BAM banned, thanks lol what a way to treat honorable users like me, i couldnt believe it :(
