Counter Strike vs the future: Why I’m not afraid.
Play this while you’re reading – bit.ly/K77oU8

(Opinion expressed keeping in mind the Indian Market. I would be glad to know if this holds true for your, the reader’s, country too)
Counter Strike Vs the future: Why I’m not afraid.
Public’s Death wish> 1.6 dying.
Me: Not.
Enlightenment> Beneath
Vs. Business
Every kid who steps into FPS territory gets tired of Single Player shooters after a time. We’re hardwired to compete so we search for options. Top results – 1.6, BF and COD.
Option taken – 1.6.
Why?
1. Environment – Every gaming cafe (high end or low end) has 1.6 installed and the crowd to play with. At home – you have the option of joining any Pub server or Clan server (from among 250 active servers) and that too with a crowd standing by.
2. Conditions – No special graphical requirement. Setup file is small, readily available on the internet as well as with common vendors; also the setup can be burned on to a single CD or copied to a 1GB flash drive. The game itself is easy to operate with ‘1 click and play’ mechanism. (All the above points are small variables but they are literally a huge deal considering the trouble you have to go through to get and install other competitive FPS shooters which won’t run on low end desktops or laptops)
Now once you’ve significantly learnt the game the next step is joining or creating a clan following immediately which you take part in tournaments. You win some, you lose some. And you converse directly with other players and indirectly with SPONSORS.
Now sponsors – in layman terms- worry only about the crowd. The more, the better. The more the players and spectators, the better return on being associated professionally with such an event.
The indirect publicity along with the direct revenue generated when people buy the ‘gear’ of their favourite player. Also, the revenue generated from other companies whom the organizing sponsors have allowed to setup their stalls to showcase products. Etc.
No threat of slack business. Why? Cause 1.6 has now become a legacy and in a very small way its reaching the sentiment where gamers flock to tournaments as some attend a Cricket or a Football match. No other game has been able to draw so much of blood as 1.6 has.
Vs. People
My top reasons to play 1.6 relentlessly -
1. Realistic while not strangling the game – The description of the game on its official site holds it as a reality portraying game and it does justice to what has been cited BUT sometime during the development of the game the creators understood that while binding the game to be ‘strictly realistic’ provides the player with an actual understanding of combat, the game play would be far less enjoyable and slow. So they incorporated part ‘fantasy’ into it by making small changes which allow the experienced player to manipulate movements and the environment. Turns out these small changes are part of the reason why people still play 1.6 over other FPS shooters.
2. Replayability - The beauty of Counter Strike is that you can never say “I’m perfect”. There is always ALWAYS the scope to improve more and learn something new. People are discovering ‘new’ wallbang spots, nading points, boost jumps, strats; 8 years after the game started realising its full potential and all that – primarily on 4 maps. (Isn’t that something)
3. Competition – There is always plenty and it keeps evolving with time. Teams with new strats, players with shooting skills better than you, players with better game sense etc. Devising new strats and finding out loopholes in the opposition’s tactics and exploiting them immediately while the match is going on or deciding a counter attack afterwards during the after-match discussions. It also tests your mental stamina, reflexes and adaptability.
4. Teamwork – No wonder mTw decided on a name which reflects the true essence of winning a match. You can have inhuman shooting skills but all of it comes down to synchronized teamwork between the players, just like in an orchestra.
5. Other reasons – In a childish way when I’m rewarded with 1.6’s headshot animation; it just completes the kill for me. I think most of you won’t disagree when I say that we don’t really give a fuck about the real physics of how a body falls after getting a headshot, it should just feel visually kick ass like “YEAAAAHHHHHHHH I KILLED YOU RAND (whore)!!!”
Also the wallbanging – it just adds new meaning to killing. Its such a pleasure killing someone without seeing them but on the basis of sometimes sound, sometimes sense, sometimes random. And you’re not just shooting blindly; there is precise learning of spots and implementation. Also you can discover your own ‘never seen before’ wallbang spots.
Moves like – crouch walk, bhopping, long jumps, quick scoping, boost jumping, towers xD
[Notable - The beauty of every 1.6 competitive match involving top teams – you have 2 teams with each side having every single player skilled enough to kill the entire opposition’s team. And these players go to war :)]
Special mention of games that were really good but couldn't outlast the test of time (in my opinion, because they were futuristic FPS)- Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament (the original one)
Summing it all up I just don't know any other alternative game that is so playable, competitive, readily available and so permeated and with such a strong legacy.
I don’t believe 1.6 is dying. Not a bit.

Good reasons for play CS.
+1
^_^
only 1.6 :)
go suX and gay
go suX and gay
haha, of course 1.6. Only the game I play
What is it with people with UK/USA/CANADA flag on this site? Can't even write an easy sentence like "The only game I play" correctly.. wtf??
xD
Well, I couldn't find my country's flag when I registering. I live in UK, that's why I chose it. Anyway, I don't care.
Edit: So what ?

What is the future in CS for you, that you don't worry over? How many years?
Well I'm hopeful of being a gaming event organizer and 1.6 will be at the forefront of the game pool.
So my point being that we don't really need to be anxious concerning the future of CS. Its safe :)
So my point being that we don't really need to be anxious concerning the future of CS. Its safe :)
Two questions.
By what do you mean the future of CS is safe? As in, there is still people playing it, or that we will still have big lans like IEM and enough income for the professionals to have a professional scene in the game (SK, fnatic, NaVi, ESC etc)
What does being secured for the future mean to you? As in, being active 10 more days or 10 more years?

We have big lans.....check
Enough income ..... uncheck
New blood ..... check
New map pool in the future to evolve competitive 1.6 ....check
Active for 10 years...check (because I'll be organizing but not 1.6 alone) also uncheck (specifically 1.6, cause I give it another 2 years, 3 years being overtly optimistic)
Edit: #10 Have to agree with him that that is also a valid point. 1.6 alone will not be there but its successors :)

Counter strike will stay alive forever, dunno about 1.6; i think that the next 10 years at least we'll have cs, whether it be 1.6, promod, csgo, or ¿cs 2?

nice read. although there's no arguing that 1.6 is in its last legs. so if one is looking at the future of fps gaming it certainly is not in a game more than a decade old.
True true :'(
This predicament can only be salvaged if Valve decides to do something drastic to rectify whatever is already wrong with CSGO.
But then again, they are developing CSGO for the 'casual asshole' so... :\

Cs is as similar to sport for me.
Therefore does not have to die. Cs is an exellent game (when we play pcw)

Counter Strike <3 and well done with yesterday's gameplay :D
I am really amazed by the way you write these things. Very strict and easy to read aswell. I wish that every 1.6 player would read this good "article" "blog" or whatever you should call it. I really believe that this submission should be published more exclusively :D
Thank you very much. Comments like yours are the icing on top of the cake that really charge me to write more.
I agree with what you've written and am actively looking for opportunities :)

Sometimes I just hate to think about the future, its hard to think that after some years you wont be playing with the people, I have left gaming for a while, but will never stop folllowing hltv.org . It really keeps you updated. Meeting the people who are just like you and share the same opinion, it doesnt matter where are you from, its all about the unity and passion for the game.
I Love Cs 1.6 , and will never stop following it :')

1.6 Forever *raises fist in the air*
Steam vs WON all over again
The player base -will- die as people grow up and settle in life, while the game is too old to attract new players. In the end a few lone players will just sit around being lonesome.

But 1.6 passed that test too :D Let's hope IT IS steam vs WON over again ^_^
That's why we have to support CS:GO and make it the next big thing that unites the CSS and CS 1.6 players. I'm personally loving the new CS :)
I'm not against it too, but I haven't had the chance to test the beta. Will only be able to post something once I've played it :(
We must create a European league as the League FnaticRC for small team.
ESL is dead !
ESL is dead !
Do you know the procedure to create a league or how to go about this thing? I'm ready but my knowledge is absolutely nil regarding the above.
My mistake, this is because of google translation (im french, idon't good write english x) )
I say that they must create a new league

Nice blog....but how can you organize events and earn money in a poor country like India?
I dont know but if you could get livable money I guess you would be the happiest man alive
Please let me know the stats and I too will join you if the bucks are alright

Bro I'll bring in investors along with putting up some of my own money :)
The gestation period will be long but hell, we have to look at the bigger picture :)
The gestation period will be long but hell, we have to look at the bigger picture :)
but feature is more important then game "/
Features are necessary but 're-playability' is what makes a legacy :)
not bad...
nice blog....gr8 reasons y it isnt gonna vanish in esports...i dnt think cs1.6 can be substituted by any game :\.......
True :>
notice how there isnt a single north american post, yea. and only 1 south american posted. dead? well... let's just say the console "casual scene" in this continent way outweighs PC 1.6 gaming.
Point noted ^_^
1 thing tht makes this game play with passion..
No matter hw long u r playin this game..U always find a better player than u..always..
