Double Dipping in eSports
Several LoL/Dota 2/HoN teams have been switching disciplines given how similar the in-game mechanics of all 3 games are with the exception that their application differs and so does the playstyle. Not to mention the adjustments required or some stark differences that need to be learned in order to excel at both games at the same time.
Some teams have been hopping disciplines with the same roster when they see easy money. For instance, Fnatic's Dota 2 roster jumping into the DreamHon tournament and winning $40,000 which is their 4th DreamHack win now. With CS:GO, CSP and 1.6 deadlock, do you think we will see double dipping in CS as well? Actually, it had already begun in-part with f0rest and GTR playing GO tournaments while they were still active in SK Gaming. ESL GO cups do have prize money, albeit pretty small in terms of amount.
This blog is not to accuse any pro teams or players but to rather question what the general opinion about this kind of hopping is? If a team/roster is good at one game and wishes to represent their organization in a somewhat similar discipline, is it ethically or from a sportsmanship perspective the right thing? Do you feel organizations are making easy money this way which they need anyway to sustain their existing rosters or invest in offices and gaming houses?
Please keep it civil :)
P.S: I've written a more detailed piece on the same topic here. Do give it a read if you'd like to know more

the fnatic dota2 is really a HoN team, they wouldn't even be top 20 in dota2 (if you count the chinese teams).
Infact i think they are in div2 for most online comps.

Don't think it's really possible. Yeah, maybe early on in the lifeline of new games but the skill gap will grow exponentially with each year.
csp is more dead then 1.6
what will probably happen if valve update cs:go and make tournaments like they do for dota2
most of pro gamers that can only play cs in life, will switch to cs:go... rest that have brain, will just leave 1.6 and work.
im pretty sure it what will happen with markeloff,he isnt dumb... so he finished university, same goes for hooch,etc...

if csp is dead , then what about CSGO that has as much players as The Sims 3 and cant break 1500 players with 100.000 beta keys given out ?
Btw condition zero has 3000 players , twice more than CSGO , the next BIG thing , haha :)

Well in the ESWC Qualifer it was over 1000 CS:GO teams, 1000x5 = 5000. So it's abit more than 1500.
so you are contesting the official stats provided by steam itself and daily updated? Interesting.
What i ment is that there is alot more players than the steamstats say. I guess alot off teams and players just are waiting on the relese first. So atm the most players play CSS/1.6.
And what's your excuse for Dota2? No body plays GO because it sucks,I have many CS irl friends and no one of them like it. From the other side, 99% old dota players likes dota2.
y ur so cynical ... ??? :OOOO
probably. but i predict the go winners will be pretty random from event to event
Do you know Abhishek "Kronig Penny" Havelya?
Never heard of him.
yeah...i asked that to aman...the writer of this blog...
I like the way you are thinking
