I would like to share it with you my friends because some people have a wrong vision about Brazil. I experienced this here in US when a mom of a friend mine called her and she said was with a Brazilian guy and her mom said something like "Is it safe? hanging out with a Brazilian guy?". At time i thought it was funny, but then i realized it's not funny, it's seriously.

So guys, i would like to know something like this about your country too. Don't think my goal here is attract you to Brazil and steal your wallet. HAHA
We don't really think Brazil is a bad/poor country, All we do know is that the "favelas" are a bad place to be at, and of course theres lots of bad things happening in Rio De Janeiro.
I'm sorry but I personally think Brazil is a beautiful place, And yes I've been there because I was born there but that doesn't make me a fully Brazilian. I've honestly never heard any american talking bad about Brazil.

What a incredible city is NYC, I'm really having a good time here. Yes i know a lot of Americans likes Brazil and everywhere that i said I'm Brazilian everyone smiled and said "Nice place". Only in this situation above i felt bad about it.

It's not about being white, but looking privileged and appearing to have a suburban upbringing can be dangerous in many places in the US. I lived on the outskirts of Washington DC in my childhood and I had a few rough experiences when I would go to inner parts of DC like Northeast DC (and never go to Southeast DC unless you're really poor!).
Now I study in New York and a bunch of college students have been robbed by guys from Harlem for their iphones over the past year.

tl;dr, it's never a race thing but a socioeconomic thing and as times get tough in America, a lot of city places especially are dangerous for middle class (read: privileged) people.

I wouldn't move from here even if I were a billionaire... the favelas (slums) are located in a few big cities, so I really don't care about them...

I live in a 'small' city (200k), sometimes we let the gate open, there's no problem (since it's not a huge city like São Paulo, where you have to be more careful about robbery)... there's a hospital 150m far from my house where I can receive free health care any day any time, the traffic jam is barely zero, the air is very pure, there's no pollution, there's no snow, no earthquakes, no tsunamis, no hurricanes... and sunny days 90% of the year

Everyone is getting more and more money, the economical situation is great (hi Europe), and everything will be even better after the huge infrastructure improvements being made from World Cup 2014 and the Olympics 2016... the real big problem here is: corruption. It kills our real potential, as a country

Brazilians can be very idiotic towards foreigners because less than 5% of us can speak English and even lesser can speak proper English, that is the number one reason I would say. Also, Brazilians seem to hate the more fortunate ones (even if they are not, people will think they are because they're not speaking Portuguese) for god knows the reason. I live in Brazil and work for a big US telecom company so I deal with Americans in a daily basis and for what I can tell 95% of the people I have ever spoke to are pretty cool! I admit their lack of knowledge about Brazil can be annoying at times but hey, I don't think we know everything about every other country so...

So the answer is, it depends! Ignorant Brazilians hate Americans, yes. Normal Brazilians can be reasonable and have no problems with them to begin with. But you should expect 5% to talk to you normally since that's pretty much who can communicate at the first place.

i have a cousin that moved to Brazil (Rio) in January i guess. he went there with a girlfriend here. in less than 1 week, he got a girl there, got her pregnant, married with her last saturday. i mean, what a freaking DREAM that guy is living there, ffs. now he's saying he'll never comeback, why would he right? the girl is a cryminologist, got a house in Copacabana (the most beautifull house i've ever seen in my entire life) and everything!!! i'd never comeback to Portugal if i were him, seriously, what a freaking dream that guy is living!!! lucky bastard :) god bless Brazil :D
