Im from the Faroe Island, if u are from Danmark, you propably know it ;) And I can tell u for sure, it is so much cheaper in Danmark then up here. Im in Danmark 2-3 every year, and I always buy a shit loud of stuffs everytime :D I can give u exemples. Milk 15dkk, Haribo click mix 25DKK, Soda 0,5 liter 15 DKK, my pc Acer Predator G3600 10999DKK, Redbull 18DKK, Lørdagspizza 54 DKK. There are some exemples from Faroe Island :)
2012-05-09 04:27:24
Do you follow football in Faroe Islands? :D
2012-05-09 06:27:28
Owyes big times! :D Hahaha even if they are all shit, but it is like one of the few things that we have, so everyone is very supportive :D
And if u mean like PL and La Liga then yes ;) We have Danish channels up here so we are able to see PL, La Liga, Seri A and others, since we belong to them. And I doubt it that there is any difference between us and other countries how people cheer for football :)

Haha. I meant the Faroe Island league you know. With Torshavn and Runavik. The city I'm from actually "Liepaja" Torshavn and Runavik played against Liepajas Metalurgs in UEFA cup back in the day. We won both times haha, cuz yea the feroes aren't so good at football, but it's nice to hear that you guys support your teams etc, even if they aren't that great. :D

Ohhh hahahaha :D Cool u still remember that :D
Erm we have a few good players ( or dont know if they are good, but they are so better than the others :D ) Jakup Mikkelsen is a brilliant goal keeper, you can check him out on youtube :) And we have, Jóhan Petur Edmundson he has played or plays for New Castle and we have Gunnar Nielsen another goal keeper he played for Man City, he came in one match in PL :D
We have good talents up here, Like one of them was top scorrer for U17 interntional teams in one tournament, and we have a many others, but the thing is we dont have many coaches, traing facilities, so it's hard to make them good. The most of them go to Danmmark to become better :)
And about the football up here, everyone follows football, and know the fotball players, this is a country where u actually know your neightbors :) And in this City where I live we have 5000 people and there are over 1000 people to every football match :) And even if he league is so small as it is, the fans are really doing a gr8 job :)

dude since u`r from Faroe islands i`m curious to know if faroese and danish are similar or the same or is faroese similar to any other language ?
2012-05-09 12:43:59
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faroese_language
2012-05-09 15:27:15
searched but had to see what Old West Norse language is which languages it affected then came the Norn language , and a shitload of other things , so it`s easier to ask especially when the guy is from the faroe islands
2012-05-09 17:13:50
Feel free to ask :) I'm open 24/7 ;)
2012-05-09 17:52:05
Erm, some of the words are similar when u know the both languages, men I highly doubt it an Danish guy would understand a word of what I say if I talk to him. Also we have Danish at school since 3rd grade ( Out of 10 ) and they don't have Faroese in Danmark ( Faroese is our own language ) I guess Faroese is more similar to Icelandic, Like they do also use '' Ð '' which me use a lot, and the accent is also similar :) But the connection between Danmark and Faroe Island is really good, maybe to good. Like we have exactly the same rights as they do in Danmark, and so do they up here. We dont have any Universitys up here, so after collage u most move to Danmark, if u want a edducation. And the most of the people who move to Danmark, they dont come back :)
Ohh I went completely of tpoic lol :D But I gave u a few exemples. Erm I can give u a few words that are similar. Hey-Hej-Hallo, Hvat-hvad-what, Nei-Nej-No, Ja-Ja-Yes, Flatskerm-Fladskærm-Flatscreen and Loft-loft-roof and there are many words that are a bit similar :)

sounds like modern assimilation even though your islands don`t count more than 50 thousand , so faroese is more similar to icelandic , but do u understand them?
2012-05-09 17:10:16
We do understand each other ( not everything ) but alot of it ;) Like I can have a concerstation with one from Iceland, where I speak Faroese and he speaks Icelandic :)

2012-05-09 17:24:58
Yes I think so :D But in Danmark, there is always something in special offers :D And we have special offers up here, u might save 500DKK for a pc and 3-5 DKK for 3 twix or something :)
2012-05-09 17:56:20
but u have higher salaries up there compared to denmark ?
2012-05-10 20:26:22
Yes, but that much more as it should be. The Dansih family are better economically, and that is also why the country is in huge finacial crisis :) Danmark is a much bigger country than the Faroe Island, so it's much more expensice for gas to your car or taking the train/buss. In Faroe Island all family has their own car, and the distance from and to work is much smaller, but the food and the stuffs are much more expensive, becouse it costs so much to transfer it up here couse we are not in EU. And the prises on the things are also so high becouse this is a small country so there is no cometition from one firm to the other. And if we join the EU, it will be cheaper and esaier to transfer food, cars, computers, clothes etc. But it allows other countrys to fish in our eara, and all we have is fish. More tan 90% of our money every year comes from fish. So it is a big risk :)
2012-05-11 01:45:24
^so much cheaper mimimimi it's still one of the most expensive countrys in europe :D
2012-05-09 16:13:06
Yea I know, explains a bit about Faroe Island aight ;)? GOD! Im happy everytime im in Danmark, just saving a bunch of money and spent it on crap down there xD
2012-05-09 17:57:50

2012-05-09 21:26:43
I don't know about danish, but Spanish is one of the most difficults languages to learn. Of course if you are from Portugal, France or other country where the language have come from the Latin is easier to learn.
2012-05-09 22:56:00
I don't think Spanish is _that_ hard... I mean, I've tried once, and I did quite well - even though I studied it for a month, or two.
2012-05-10 19:17:03
The first months is very easy with every language, learning to say hello or the colors, the difficult of the spanish come later.
btw; is not the same the spanish talked in Spain than the spanish talked in Argentina :P, we can understand each other, but there are some differences :p

2012-05-09 04:19:04
Aarhus or Aalborg. CPH is not like good, it's more expenisive and it takes alot more time to travel. And when people say everything is expensive it is true. But u also get alot more money from the state to live for, so I guess it's basicly the same as in U.S.A :) And the freedom is much better than in USA, like u can go out on what ever time you want and when ever the time of year, u can have the money in your hands without getting robbed. Well ofc there are some badasses here and there, but most likely u wont experience it ;)
2012-05-09 04:38:45
Copenhagen. Yes it's more expensive but it has so much more to offer than Aalborg, Odense or Aarhus.
And yes it's a bit expensive for foreigners. We have high salaries though so it's not a problem at all for Danes or if you work here.
But if you are serious about moving to any country, I would suggest you visit youtube and see some videos from people living there. You can find loads of videos about living in Denmark and Copenhagen there.

I'm from Aarhus, well one problem all of these cities share is that they don't offer work a lot to foreigners. For one Danes are very racist (especially to Arab named people), second if you didn't graduate with a Danish diploma in some majors (like teaching) then you won't get a job.
2012-05-09 16:05:15
Have you been to a hospital lately? Filled with foreign workers. If you have a good education I'm sure you will be able to find a job.
2012-05-09 16:11:44
Well look at my profile you will see I am speaking out of personal experience. Born and raised with Danish nationality (not an immigrant). I am as white as anyone else is, and so is my family. My mom's blonde and blue eyed. Only difference is my Dad is a muslim. My sisters have really good diplomas and so forth but they had troubles getting jobs because no one wanted to interview them, why? Because of their names. (By 2013 they will have PHD's too)
This issue has began mostly because of the media and the immigrants from Iraq/Afghan etc. Hell even my uncles were talking to us and being really racist about Arabs (completely forgetting we're of the same descent lol). So yeah, you don't have the same problem so you don't notice as much.

That's where you're totally wrong. YOU pay the taxes and they (we) give you (students) a minor pay if you're over 18 y/o. Increasing depending if you live at home (with your parents) or alone.

if u get a monthly salary of 1000euro, how much do u pay taxes?
2012-05-09 17:19:04
It depends how much you choose to pay. You will end up paying the same to the state anyway.
But example from my own salary (I'm a student).
I get around 1.600 euro /month
Then taxes etc. cut it off to just about 1.100 euro.

No, I work :)
But I'm studying. Finishing my education which lasts 4 years in total, including 2 years where I work as an apprentice for a company.

When studying you get about 600 euroes if your qalified for something called SU. First of all you have to be 18 to be qualified for it, and then you get payed a different amount based on wether you live with your parents or not and etc. But the biggest amount you can get is about 600 euroes pr. month.
It's basicly an economical support paid from our welfare system. So no, you cannot say it's for free - you gonna pay money back to the system through our high taxes when done studying and going out on the job market ;)

people in denmark have no respect for elders, shit weather and expensive prices...... been living there for over 6 years, study and working successfully.. and for all the time, i can say i knew, what... like 4 Denish man on who i can count on, all the others where immigrants like me.. coz people in Dk, i dont know.. they are not that friendly and open to foreigners, and that's the fact.. ofc i saw different attitude to USA/ARG/OZ man, than.. lets say.. EE/LV/RU/BUL nationalities.. and sometimes it makes you sick.. and there is a lot of those kind a small things, which in the end of the day, will make you feel crazy and most of the time, NOT WELCOME. and i mean doesn't matter what is your skin color, if you are not Dk, you are fucking pakey :)))

Okay. I cant seem to recognize the things you write about us and it seems like you do not understand our culture and instead are making it a thing about racisme/hostility towards foreigners. I think Healthy_ describes it pretty good underneath this post though.
Although i would like to hear why you think we don't have any respect for elders?

your culture!? what culture!? cheer for team Denmark!? ... cheering for many young people is another reason to go out, and get fucking drunk. and please don't tell me i'm wrong! ..i mean you can tell what ever you want, but i saw enough.. to not believe at this point.. many of those young people doesn't even work, they don't want to.... WHY!? coz government is taking a good care of them..
respect for elders!? well, since i have to use bus for a while, i have never seen someone give the place from young thugs to old man and women, actually i never saw someone even let the old people get in the buss, first.. coz people are just pushing each other on the way in..
when.. !? two month since i took off Denmark, last time i took the bus, i saw some pretty old couple running and trying catch the bus, srsly.. and they would not make it, if i haven't been step out of the bus, and hold it, staying in the door way.. and matter of fact, the bus driver was even trying to close the door, wtf dude!? next bus would come after, i dont know 29min.. coz of schedule..
i don't think it's cool at all, maybe for you people.. and i can go on and go on and go on.. believe me, you don't want me even to get started.

I don't get what your point is from the first part of your comment, what do you mean?
But yes, our government is taking good care of the young people as wel as the elders. It doesn't seem to me you know how our public system is? I can only speak from my experience, but none of my friends is in the position that they don't want to work to get som extra money to spend - but it's fairly hard to find a study-job at the moment and even harder in Aarhus and Copenhagen.
I can't argue with you about the bus example as i do not use that form of transportation, but it seems to be the wrong kind of behaviour and i don't hope it's a common thing here in Denmark :)

So because some fucked kids who doesn't let their seed to an old man or woman all danish people is just some stupid and don't show respect? Thats a really.... really bad point of view you have there.
And come on... Youngsters in Denmark doesn't want to work? Where, how and what have you seen of that? I know a lot of young people who needs the money to take care of them self everyday so they do everything to get a job. Take for example me. I worked 25-30 hours a week for like 1 year ago. After a half year on the job I got the kick because of some stupid reason that is no relevance right now. I didn't go in school or had a job for almost a year but I worked hard and finally I work a "Det Norske Veritas" as a Administrative Assistent on full time which is 37 hours a week. So... my point is that you seriously can't say that young people in Denmark doesn't do anything to have a job or want's to have a job.
And please... Don't use all these abbreviation for words...

Aarhus is probably the city which has most problems with foreigners. That's probably where the prejudice come from.

What a load of BS. No respect for elders? Are you kidding me? Who the hell are you to tell me that I, as a Dane don't give a crap about our elderly citizens? I don't even want to argue with this statement, it's too ridiculous. The weather is what it is, and our high prices is compensated for by our high salaries, and the fact that people like my self are getting paid 1000$ monthly, to study. I'm sad to hear about your unfortunate experiences in our country, but I guess, stories like yours is to be found in every country. :/
Foreigners just need to know the fact, that Danes maybe are a bit more private people than others. But this fact is NOT to be confused with hostility. This is often the case, and some people may unfortunately misinterpret this typical danish behaviour. Not to worry though, visitors just need to have this in consideration when they stay here. :]Most of us is of course friendly people, who like and respect turists/visitors and would gladly share our beautiful country with those who want to visit our part of the world.

If you knew how to read properly, you would see that the only statement I don't want to argue, is the "elderly citizens-statement" But, hey I didn't expect a decent reply from you anyway. And guess what I know that you read the rest of my text, you just didn't have the capability to answer.
