mouse dpi
Hi guys I've heard few times that I should set as high dpi as possible and adjust sensitivity to it. Mouse is supposed to be more precise then. Does it really make so much difference in game ? or is it just theory which doesn't really work in game ? Please write what you think about it :)
And you can share your mouse settings btw if you want(dpi,cs sensitivity, windows sensitivity) ! I'm really confused about how to set my settings :) I know there were many threads like this, but the point of mine is the questions about dpi in game impact.

my ingame sens is 4 .. how can u manage movements in such a low sensitivity ?

i cant bhop properly even in 4 :O
2012-05-29 04:46:56
4 is too high.. OMG
2012-05-29 08:43:04
before I got this mouse I used to use 4 on win sens and 1.6 on cs sens, a pretty low sens, since I only lean my wrist on the table, not the arm. It was like the less part of my arm y lean on, the lower is the cs sens, now with sensei and this config is the other way around, the less part of my arm, the higher the cs sens. thats why. With all this config i can play and bhop without any problem.
2012-05-29 19:06:07
So everyone is dropping his own config and nobody answers him...

I don't think you're more precise with more dpi, if it would be real every pro players would use the higher dpi possible, it's logical. I tried to play at 1800dpi one time, decreasing my windows sens to 3/11 and I felt like my mouse was more "aggressive", it's quite weird to explain. Anyway, the feeling is different but I don't think you're more precise and I think I would have noticed it as I'm a low sens player. It's just a matter of taste in my opinion, just like resolution.

It might be more precise in others games though, I don't know, I'm only talking about CS and everyone should know that CS can react differently sometimes.
2012-05-25 02:22:03
thanks m8, it seems like people can't read :D
2012-05-25 13:00:43
Some settings are equivalent in game, like example 1800dpi and 3/11 is similar to 800dpi and 6/11.

Try to put ingame sens 1 and then adjust everything else, as I wrote down in #13

Here's one math example, your game sens is counted as win sens * in game sens, so it's better to have ingame sens 1 to simplify and avoid miscalculations :)
2012-05-25 13:25:34
Increasing DPI and decreasing windows sens does not give the exact same thing, it's a different feeling. Just try, you will understand.
2012-05-25 21:30:37
No, no, it ain't the same feeling, but numbers are similar :)
2012-05-25 23:06:34
its just a personal opinion ..
stick to what you are most comfortable.. it doesnt make any difference what dpi u set

amount of data which goes from your mouse to your pc in one second..

Bigger it is the mouse should be more precise, but it might cause your fps to drop and you'll also have a slight acceleration.. Download mouse movement recorder and you will see what I'm talking about :)

When you use 250Hz and make fast movements it doesn't go over that, but if you use 1000Hz and move your mouse fast your HZ can go up to 1500...
2012-05-25 14:53:25
Polling rate. How often your mouse sends data to your PC.
2012-05-25 15:08:56
It's same as latence on your monitor. 1000 Hz = 1 ms, 125Hz (default for most mice) = 8 ms.

Well, if you have 6/11 in win, and 100dpi you're mouse movement will be directly transfered to your screen (you'll have 1:1 ratio(you move your mouse for 5cm and cursor will move excatly the same ))..

SS recommends this settings, and a lot of people agreed with that..

I saw your edit late :(

Then it's perfect for you since you can adjust your cpi with a 1 step :)

I'm not sure if I undestand you well. Do you mean that I can set dpi at 100, 200, 300, 400 etc. ? I guess nobody uses 100 dpi
2012-05-25 13:33:11
No, you can set CPI 101,102,103,104 :)

My point was, SS recommends for everyone who uses XAI to put win sens 6/11, ingame 1 and adjust CPI as it fits for them (you can put 403 if you want, I mean, you can increase your CPI 1 by 1 so you'll get most precise movement) :)
2012-05-25 13:38:41

and just so you know, most of pro players uses a faster settings then mine (and I'm far from pro :P), so you should consider increasing it a little more :)

I realize it is low sens : ) Gonna see if it's enough to quickly avoid flashes, if yes I will probably stick to this :)
2012-05-25 14:31:10
well you can do that, but you'll need to make large movement with your hand :)

I used to play with even lower, 400dpi, then 600dpi :)

I read a long time ago on overclock3d's forum that you should play with the native DPI of the sensor, because it's more stable and the other values are interpolation of the native DPI and not as precise.

In my opinion the real hardware sensitivity is the dpi/cpi of your mouse, the windows sens and ingame sens are just software interpolations of the real sens, so what I like to do is set windows sens at default 6/11 and ingame sens at default 3.0. From there I just adjust the mouse dpi/cpi to whatever I feel comfortable with. If I can't find a good setting with that then I might consider changing the software sens, which is ok, and you'll probably need to if you can't precisely set the cpi's you need as some mouse only change in increments of x. In the end It's just a matter of personal preference I guess. Good luck.
2012-05-29 04:24:39
cs is built for 400dpi and 6/11 in windows, change sensitivity in game instead if you dont want lags
2012-05-29 08:49:16
lol cs was built for 400 dpi? lol again. when cs was made optical mouses were giving its first steps, 1.1 came around 2001 or something.. common mouses were hardware ball tracking so please don't talk shit about something that was happening when you were 2 years old. Also, changing ingame sens will just interpolate the dpi's you have set in your mouse, talk about lag...
