when there was for example WC in ice-hockey 2 weeks ago, we couldn't create even topic for semifinals, because admin was locking that and transfering to 1 thread. You're right, it's a CS website, so it's obvious that every single CS match has the own page, but football is offtopic.

it's simple, the hocky thread would easily be kept in 1 thread and not generate a page of a bazillion posts. for euro, it would probably become way too long, take long to load, lose overview and get chaotic, etc. so I guess admins are bending the rules in order to prevent a huge thread of over 5000 posts (because believe me, that will easliy be broken for euro 2012 posts, probably even during group stage already

unlikely, denmark and also sweden are very solid teams. netherlands is going to play it safe because they need to win whatever it takes, losing against denmark could be end of story for the netherlands.

too right, besides sneijder and willems no one played good.
robben should be on the left side (so he is forced to give a pass from backline instead of going himselve, because he thinks he is gods gift to football), or on the bench.
Huntelaar should play for sure, so v Persie should either play left winger, #10, or not at all. considering sneijder is the best of the team (and was the WC best player together with xavi muller and iniesta) #10 is no option, so robben or persie left winger ( I dont mind) affelay right, with narsingh/kuyt backup.
then sneijder 10, and behind him bommel and de jong against germany, but against denmark I would have gone with vd Vaart at one of these positions, in order to get a better build up (v Bommel has really surprised me, he was great 2 years ago where did all that football intelligence go? did he play bad for milan this season? :O)

I was already afraid germany would rape us, but was hoping for a miracle (considering NLs bad form lately as a team, which is also due to the weird LU's Marwijk makes) against PT, or at least a draw. after losing to denmark, my slightly positive mindset has gone totallly. dead last in the group doesn't seem so unlikely suddenly.

yes he was, but it is common courtesy to pick the motm from the winning team, in which case I would still not go for Deli (with all do respect), that was what I meant to point out.
btw you shouldn't rage against the danes like a few posts up man, they won deserved, Holland played in a dumb tactic (no wingers, 3 strikers, the outside 2 basically forced to go for own glory by the position they were fielded, which is way too predictable by now), and v Bommel v Persie and Robben played really poor
we can whine about the amount of chances we got but it's not like Denmark had 11 guys lying in their own box, they played soccer at least unlike chelsea before against barca and Italy vs NL at euro2000, so I don't see any need to say they did not deserve the win (even though a draw would have been more fitting)

they had a few more chances true, but like I said to flax, the danes played smart and strong, while most dutch guys dissapointed me, and did not play nearly as good as they can/should (robben persie bommel etc), so they did not really deserve to win on that account imo. on account of the chances, yes, NL did deserve at least 1 but probably 3 points

Wow very suprised with that game, Denmark are a lot better then I thought really good defenders and it goes to show you that just because you have a team of superstars doesn't mean much! van Bommel was more dissapointing to me than de Jong, I really did not see him do anything, it was like he was tired from the first minute :/
only good thing was his shot that the goalie deflected right next to the post.
agree with you that at least Huntelaar should have started, been expressing my inability to understand the move to put him on the bench to my friends for over a month now.
vd Vaart is a more difficult story, as his own/fav position is taken by the marvellous sneijder. he could played with de Jong/v Bommel on one of the controlling spots though, or perhaps even left or right winger, but we have some great wingers already (not being utilized very well though, should put rightfoots on the right and vice versa, so they can come with some great passes from the backline :P)

The thing with Van Bommel is he is a liability atleast from what I saw of him in the last world cup, every time he goes for a challenge I cringe and another point with Robben: he is a one trick pony and we all know what that is and especially their opponents :P if he would just pass the ball more or take more crosses it might be more effective and they definetely need to start Huntelaar and Van Persie together if they want to progress, Sneijder is just an amazing talent.

EDIT: I still believe Holland will make it through the group at the expense of Portugal and Denmark and I really hope they will win the entire cup

I feel bad for sneijder mostly, once again playing brilliant, but not really having the chance to feed strikers well, as Robin kept going to the wing and as both wingers kept going inside instead of towards the backline for a high pass (which is actually Marwijks fault, as he places rightfooters on the left and vice versa). Predictable and easy to defend.

actually nl played pretty good but they were so unlucky, denmark played very well too so I will see them win against portugal which will be interesting for the final standing, either germany or nl are out

What did Bert v Marwijk expect without wingers? :/ well they played, but on the wrong flank, robben and affelay had to come to the middle all the time to get the ball on their right foot, attracting more danish attention to the strikers in or near the box, easy to defend. Only ones who realised we'd get more done with long range passes from the flank were Sneijder (who played brilliant btw) and Willems, but v Marwijk should have seen it way earlier and tried to fix it with good substitutes. Also van Persie plays striker brilliant at arsenal, but always goes towards the flank, and in this match he did it all the time going towards the ball, attracting more danes towards the player with the ball and closing all the space, also due to that we had no one up front to be fed :/ Huntelaar has only been doing superbe for 4 years, both at his club as the NL national squad, so smart timing to drop him to the bench just before the EC.
He only scores about 1 goal each match for NL, while v Persie scores one each 9 matches for NL, logical move :/

I doubt that Marwijk will get it through his thick skull, that the only 1 true striker we have selected (v Persie was a winger of origin :P) should always play.
but lets hope, perhaps at least he will choose him for the fear factor (the germans are more afraid of huntelaar than anyone, having seen what he did first hand, and as it is quite exceptional for a bundesliga topscore to score more than 25)
