Planning My New Setup
Okay so here we go :D haha!

Basically, I need a solid gaming rig for playing CS on, my last comp is beyond repair and I'm playing on a shitty little Laptop. I am hoping to get a whole new bit of kit, including new mouse, keyboard, headset ect. Hopefully my budget will be around £900 for this little buying frenzy, less if possible haha!

Computer:

So first of all is the computer itself. Now I dont really wana have to spend more than £550 on it... It doesn't have to be amazing... just very good value for money ;)

I found this bad boy on Ebay...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VIBOX-FLASH-SX-FAST-AMD-..

Any Ideas?

Monitor:

I don't really know about the monitor, obviously looking for one that allows me to have good viewing pleasure in a decent size for around the £100 mark. Any Ideas?

Keyboard and Mouse Situation

Probably looking for a good pair for about £120-£150 all together. Was thinking about a Zowie Evo mouse the other day, what dya think? Or even the Logitech G500?

Headset

The we have the Headset, had my eye on this baby for a while... Sennheiser are so under-rated, but hey... what do you guys think?

Cheers x

Wont just be for CS btw... Will be for Total War games, other shit like that really...

Your 'bad boy' is pretty bad since it's a AMD CPU. AMD sucks obviously.
If you want to go for a cheap and solid processor you should go for a i5 2500k.
16GB is totally nonsense. Games nowadays need maximal 4GB of Ram. You should go for 8GB, it's way enough and still you can upgrade if you need more.
I don't like ATI because they're often not really good compared to Geforce ones. They're mainly only better if it's OVER HD resolution and I doubt you've got a monitor who have a higher resolution. You could buy one for like 1000€ though. :-)

He is right, amd sucks compared to intel.
2012-07-15 04:46:48
Yeah but intel is more expensive than amd. And on amd you can play new games too like bf3. I played bf3 on ultra settings on my pc. If you are looking for cheap procesor for net, movies its amd. If you are looking for procser who can handle new games and games wich arent released its intel.

First of all, find out which pc shops sell actual PC parts at the best price.

From there you should select your own parts, and get them to build it for you.

I would suggest based on your budget.

CPU: Intel i5 2500k

Mobo: Asus/gigabyte H77 (any model which suites, some have extra usb, some have wifi all very similar.

Memory: 8gigs of either gskill or cosair c9

Video: Nvidia 560ti (any known brand should be ok, personally i use gainward.

Hard-disk: 1TB SATA 7200rpm 64mb cache (probably will be seagate or WD)

Case: Coolermaster 692

PSU: Coolermaster/Cosair/Antec/anything really 500-550ish

DVD: anything as long as it's SATA

should be about on budget, depending on country i guess.

i guess it depends on which eu country he is from, i think the budget would be quite tight otherwise.

Alternatively, drop down to a coolermaster centurion combo (500w + case) and go for 570.

hrmm really need to see a price list and availability. Glad to see we are roughly on the same page and ideas in what to pick.
2012-07-15 03:55:17

for keyboard and mouse, Logitech G1 is a cheap gaming kb/mouse solutions.
headset look for superlux + mic. always choose for open-cans.

garbage spastic
2012-07-18 11:35:00
you can get either intel I5 2400 or I5 2500K
not much difference in core performance. but the latter one is unlocked for overclocking..
the K means its unlocked
so if you are not going to risk your processor by overclocking at sometime in future then you could easily save 20$ by buying the former
2012-07-15 08:46:41
Core i7 2600k
8 GB RAM
1 TB HDD
Not sure about VGA. GTX 560 or GTX 570 maybe
2012-07-15 10:33:11
No need an i7 for gaming, i5 2500k is enough.
2012-07-15 12:41:48
There is no big price difference between these CPU`s
2012-07-15 12:48:23
Still costs more though...
2012-07-15 13:17:47
100€ is still a big difference
2012-07-15 13:42:27
Its nearly 70$ here. Not a big deal
2012-07-15 14:06:56

2012-07-15 17:51:39
I got these for 600$ (without monitor)
Motherboard ASRcok h61icafe http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.us.asp?Model=H61..
RAM 1x4gb DDR3 1333mhz Patriot (up to 16gb if needed)
HDD 500 GB WD
Core i5 2500 3.3 ghz (turbo boost 3.7 ghz)
VGA Sparkle GTS 450 1gb GDDR5 + keyboard, mouse, dvd rom
2012-07-15 14:13:51
And running Battlefield 3 on high setting with 30-35 fps, All CoD series more than 40 fps, Deus Ex 3 - 45-48 fps (1080p)

The only game my GPU can't handle with high settings is Alan Wake (so far)

Don't forget to install Windows 7 64 bit
2012-07-15 14:17:37
Are you in the UK? Take a look here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/

Either way, people are overestimating your budget I'd say. If I were you, I'd grab an i3 2120, the cheapest mobo you can find, a cheap case you like, a 450 or even 500W psu (decent brand- ocz,corsair,bequiet,..), 8gb of ram (dual channel so preferably 2x 4gb) and then just complete it with the most expensive graphics card your budget allows (this should be around the radeon 6770 mark I think, might be higher though).
