HLTV.org improvements
I think this site really needs improvements, especially on design. I'm not saying something's really bad there and must be changed immediately, we just need some fixes and new options (like reporting threads, blocking some users and etc)

And why there is no any improvement on site for months? I hope its not the real reason :D

right now you have to report yourself so the admins check the thread. Which for sure is kinda stupid and no one knows about it
2013-02-25 16:48:15
No need to improve the site just for sake of improvement.
It's already perfect.
2013-02-25 14:38:17
+1
2013-02-25 14:44:41
Why else would you improve something, if not for improvement?
2013-02-25 14:55:39
Remove inconvenient or missing stuff. At the moment everything is great here.
2013-02-25 16:19:18
Well that would also be an improvement, now wouldn't it?
2013-02-25 20:23:17
and ya the thred report button already exists

this thread can now be closed

thnks everyone who attended this conversation

thank you

We need a section for past matches. And also the encounters on the mobile site should be clickable with a link to the match-thread.
2013-02-25 14:44:33
+1 on Thread report

Feel free to suggest what you'd like to see, I will not promise anything, but I am always open to suggestions.. :)
2013-02-25 14:52:08
I would like to see some kind of instant private chat like on facebook for example, also some download section for example cfg's, monitor settings and similar :) Also it would be good to separate banners from forum/media/stats/general sections

chat its a very good idea :)
2013-02-25 16:40:44
report threads,
less spam,
recent results on the side somewhere with links to the community match page,
stats incorporated more into the fan centre and both incorporated more into the community pages, ability to "ignore" so I don't have to read some peoples garbage,
an easier way to find my older posts,
a star rating like on gotfrag so i can show everyone how high and mighty i am,
maybe a favourite demo system, with the top10 hottest demos of the month being displayed somewhere for public download,
a public player rating system so the public can rate players.

just making random shit/ideas up off the top of my head
2013-02-25 15:39:14
Nomad, what do you think about a recruitment section in the forum? It is kinda hard to search a team or find players for your team and HLTV is a popular website afterall.
2013-02-25 16:23:42
Great idea!
2013-02-25 16:37:46
A more modern more readable design would be nice.
2013-02-25 16:25:27
I think a section we can see from the frontpage with all the upcoming event could be great.
2013-02-25 16:34:41
What happened to the profile updated that were gonna happen? You still working on them?

Control fake account creation please.

Put email verification during signup, blacklist all short email service providers (eyepaste,5minmail etc)
2013-02-25 16:52:48
Thread reporting, list of past matches/results (i.e. 10 latest games from premier leagues/LANs)

I know there's somewhat of a filter for news, but it would be nice to have to have for the forums/blogs aswell - other than that there's not much to improve on (maybe a wiki like TL has, I know kniferound.net already has a a few things going, so maybe fuse them together with HLTV)
2013-02-25 15:01:27
Make a "custom" browser for the mobile app, instead of opening a new/forum thread/whatelse in the mobile's browser.

That would be awesome.

By the way Nomad, did you build scorebot by your own? I mean, is it possible to use Valve's API?

Ty :)

Improvements:

Comment improvements:

Blocking of comment content, so it cant breach the borders.. This will make the user experience on mobile device much better, since the total width is affected by this bug and then the readable content is scaled down and cant be scaled up. Some topics are unreadable on mobile device (Only tested with IOS)

Fix this by using css : Overflow: hidden; on the .textbox class Since no word would be to long for your forum width anyways..

Example: THISWORDISWRITTENBYLAMERSANDSHOULDNOTBEACCEPTEDINANYWAYPLEASEFIXTHECCSCLASSSOITSBETTERONMOBILEDEVICES

Ignore button:

This will reduce the amount of trolling and filter bad content from good as long as the user takes advantage of it.

Latest matches function:

I used google so many times to find matches which have gone out of the "Active threads module" I simply dont know how to find them if they are not there.

Solution option:

Copy the Active threads module, and make a Active matches. So they will stay on frontpage longer, and are easier to find. This i have been wanting for years!

Results

Results page on PC like we have on mobile device.

Captha
Enable captha requirement on topic creation. Not on commenting..
Strongly adviced to reduce amount of Spam/back link building, not to mention the user experience of the site.

Nicknames

Locking nicknames after registrering. Maybe also a limit of character use since it can get really stupid sometimes..
Just a personal preference.

Links

The forum target used is _self, and i do not know how many times i have lost the current page and would wish the default target was _blank.. This forum is using a lot of links, and i dont understand why you would not prefer keeping your viewers here and opening links in other tabs..

Another thing on links i would like to have rel="nofollow" again to reduce the attractiveness for bots and spammers. This would remove 90% of the SEO advantage they are gaining.

Hope you could use it :)

Adding:

Browsers

I dont know how relevant it is, and how your user statistics are, but this site got some serious issues when viewing in older IE versions.. Some z index trouble with the adverts and some java problems when viewing large threads..

Edit time

I think the edit time should be longer, i dont know the arguement for the 10 minutes set atm. but im sure there is some reason for it. Would prefer longer though.

Comment min width:

Maybe introduce a minimum width to comments, since some large conversatoins can be so small widthwise that its impossible to read the content of the comment because of the overlaying name, comment id and buttons.

IE is used by less than 3% of our total users, and no version but the very latest is supported, much less anything below 8.

I'll look into your other suggestions, the text one actually stems from an old bug with IE, that made the forum bug with the overflow set to hidden, I'll try to reenable it and see if modern browsers will deal with it better..

Sounds good :) Would love to see these fixes implemented, i really believe they will improve HLTV..

If i come across anything else i will let you know.

2013-02-25 16:32:59
I think that the comment bug it's a Textarea bug, so there's almost nothing to do. A simple fix could be to add a requirement to split a word when it's larger than X characters without a blank space.

Another fix could be that when a comment has more than "x levels" of replies, like the following:
A
.| B
....| C
.......| D
.........| E
............| F
Then to show the rest of the comments in a jQuery effect, where the user will load each set of replies, like "load 10 more replies" and so. Maybe it could make it a bit more difficult to follow ALL the replies from a comment though.

Im not sure i understand.. Can you clarify..
2013-02-25 17:58:57
HLTV should have "international sections" in forum, like French forum, Slovak forum, Russian forum (and in these sections users can talk their native language)
2013-02-25 18:00:31
Changing m4a1 to M4A4 in scorebot

And you could tell what this means : http://gyazo.com/69c89d1d3f30c8c4c2821629daf9ecdb

CHEATER SPOTTED!

m4a1 is what it is called in the serverlogs.

The cheat message appears if you try to place a bet after the game has started, e.g. by not reloading the page, leaving it with the bet open for 1 hour till after the match as finished, and then try to bet.
2013-02-25 16:01:36
Oh, okay. The cheating message appears only when I'm on mobile connection. And on the second betting attempt it usually works like it's supposed to work.

hltv org its like cs 1-6 before update
just perfect
2013-02-25 15:44:24
You should start using commas, had to read the sentence about 4 times to actually get it.
2013-02-25 15:45:52
The website could use some UX. Allthough everything is there, it's just a clutter of information. For new visitors this website is really messy and unclear. Just sayin'.
2013-02-25 15:52:36
How is it unclear?

You just gotta make some effort in reading I guess..
2013-02-25 16:41:09
a chatbox so that we can spammmmmmmmmmmmmmm =DD
2013-02-25 16:06:57
It would be nice also to have Most Active Users module or smth like that
2013-02-25 16:13:29
No, no, no. We'll get 5x more unnnecessary posts by that way.
2013-02-25 16:16:00
But users will be much active.

This is a tactic often used by review sites or blogs, where the active commentator will gain a backlink to build their own sites in google authority. This means they help eachother.

I would argue this would imply huge amounts of nonsense and comment hunting. I dont know if we need that tbh :p

2013-02-25 16:39:09
I'm waiting for special Valve's update for HLTV.org
2013-02-25 16:14:05
make thread report button to auto delete thread when it gets reported x number of times(good number imo is between 15-20)
so some people will be able to help the admins a lot,and also if we see that this is being abused u can always higher its value ;p

This would provoke people to dub-account to achieve rights to delete comments as they please.

I think getting more free of charge moderators would be better :)
2013-02-25 16:41:50
"and also if we see that this is being abused u can always higher its value"
2013-02-27 21:54:02
ban all the blatent trolls that ruin the community... and maybe make it easier to find recent match scores on the homepage
2013-02-25 16:38:44
Like I said in some thread about dreamteam... You should create some script so when you buy some players, they will be autamotically added to your dreamteam as soon as the market opens up...So you wouldnt need to be in front of computer exactly at the time of the market opening.

Bold suggestion

To counter some of the childish and unwanted comments here i think implementing user levels could have a positive effect.

These levels could be in graphic elements or a simple a 1-20 number. How the level could be calculated is a cheeky matter, since not only comment count should be the factor.

This would also help the reader to determine how respected and serious each user and their comment therefor is. I think we all know there is a lot of spam and useless comments going around, and maybe an introdcution of user levels would counter that slightly. This is probably a large one for you nomad, and im sure this topic have been discussed in your admin team, maybe you should revisit the topic and weigh pros-cons to rise the average quality of the content here.

Lol this is more than a great idea. Should deffo be on the to-do list for Nomad
2013-02-25 17:33:21
Voting system, the comment that has the most upvotes gets on top. (No downvotes because it would probably get abused)
2013-02-25 17:02:22
I'd like streams to appear in the mobileversion of the site, also it'd be nice if the notification system worked properly in the mobile version, it doesn't take you to the post if it's inside a news post.
2013-02-25 17:06:38
If it ain't broken it doesn't need fixing.
2013-02-25 17:32:17
Suggestion:

Add a small chatbox right under the forum activity just for the lolz
2013-02-25 17:32:25
oye nomad, sometimes when I'm on the "open bets" page, clicking the first checkbox on the first option fck up the alignment.
2013-02-25 17:38:00
Just like to suggest to enable comments in the stats page, so people can talk about map balance, best players etc
