in written form, danish norwegian and swedish are almost similar/identical , a dane a swede and a nor guy could chat together no problem everyone in their own language, but in real life it is another story, i think swedes dont understand norwegian or danish so well, norwegians understands swdish very well but not danish, and the danish understand both norwegian and swedish pretty easily i think. Im studying in Norway thats how I now this :)

hahaha maybe, already asked around and heard the following disscussions of locals, but my own conclussion / what I think is the truth , what I perceive from their tonality and bodylanguage ( not what they actually say) --> I think sweedes not to stupid but too arrogant or cocky, they pretend they dont understand to make norwegians feel inferior there is huge rivalry between both countries in everything and norway is regarded as the "little brother of sweeden" sweeden is 10 million and Nor is 4-5. Danes I really believe are really difficult to understand for both 2 other contries even if you really try and want to understand so it seems the way they speak about danish language. But overall I think the danish are the coolest of them all, they are more humble more real in general, more confident i dont know why, this is just what I perceive by experience :P

depends on what country ur from. Swedes mock norwegians. However I do know that Sweden is the one being most bullied of these. Maybe because our border connects with the borders of Finland, Denmark and Norway.

You hit the nail with that Sweden-Norway theory.

Norwegian is in a way in the "middle" of Swedish and Danish. That's why we find it easier to understand the other two than they understand each other.

Swedes have a more clear pronouncement than Danes. The Danes have this "lazy" way of pronouncing words. It's like they have a hot potato in their mouth. This is why a few more Danes understand Swedish than vice versa. I don't know if that's the case anyway though.

It also depends on where in the country you live. A Swedish person living in southern Sweden has much easier to understand Danish than a Swede from the north or Stockholm (like me). Same goes for Denmark, the closer to the border you get, the easier you understand the other language!

yeah, that sounds logical. I was just in the mood to talk about this "touchy" subject, i know there is some truth behind this, but offcourse not all are the same, most of my sweedish and danish friends I know are from stockholm and copenhagen and im in oslo, ( btw I can understand people from oslo, but norwegians from the north or the west I cant understand a single sentence they say unless they write it lol :D

Quite true on your first point!

I'll can only talk from my own experience but I find it easy to understand norwegian and hard to understand danish.

I'd say I understand about 80% of the message when listening to a norwegian and maybe 20% if it's a dane.
