The popular games Counter Strike and Everquest are forbidden due to a new bill from the Federal Pole of the Judiciary Section of Minas Gerais. The city of Goiás already started to collect the games.
The reason behind this is that the games "are harmful to the health of the consumers", infringing articles 6, I, 8, 10 and 39, IV of the Code of Defense of the Consumer.
What started all this was the custom map cs_rio. The federal government states: "Drug dealers in Rio De Janeiro kidnap three representatives from the United Nations". The map is a similar environment to a slum quarter in Rio De Janeiro.
Everquest is banded because it leads the gamers "to total disorientation and psychological conflicts".
Eletronic Arts are responsible for the distribution of the Counter Strike in Brazil affirms in an official note that they are still not informed officially.
To sum this political b*** s*** the Minister of whatever took notice of hostages in the map cs_rio and now believes it is a test simulator for terrorists!
Rumors have it that MiBR is likely to move to Sweden instead of staying in Brazil and that Youtube.com is next in line for censorship.

if everquest leads the gamers to disorientation and psychological conflicts i even fear to imagine where World Of Warcraft leads. Anyway i don't think the ban is permanent. Something like this happened here in Greece 3-4 years ago, but it only lasted 2-3 months.

Yeah, of course, they'll forget, or the law won't get the necessary votes, or wtf else, but the INTENTION itself makes me crazy. I really think you are very wrong. Some games maybe can make one stupid, but some definitely can do otherwise. Take Heroes, for example. Games are also a good way to learn english well and develop many mental qualities, such as attention, reflex, fast decision making, e.t.c.
And TV can only make you stupid if you watch stupid things - simple as that. But you are right - nothing is wrong about both until you do it 24/7. Without reading or getting actual life experience it's easy to become stupid :)

One possible reason why the Brazilian govt, wants it banned is because CS being so popular gives young minds easy access to information relating Real world Army Weapons.
Like all the weapons in CS are real world weapons used, and a 10 year old can say without holding a deagle how many rounds it carries.
I believe that could be one reason (exposure of real world weapons at ease).

You think terrorist groups like alkida needed CS to blow down the WTZ ? They got tons of resources , who know's they'll prolly have a head gear with a 3D virtual simulation of the site they wanna attack. So CS as terrorist simulator is sooo lame.
The only possible explanation would be, the real world similarities of weapons and that in the game.
