Its a matter of choice. The people who truly want to make a living off of professional gaming, whether it be CS, Quake, Starcraft, or something else... WILL find a way. It is not a matter of if but a matter of time. And that does not have to be completely through prize winnings. There are a lot of clever ways to make money through E-sports in terms of a few advertising tricks. But I mean look at Fatal1ty. He set out to do what he wanted to do. Play video games professionally for the rest of his life. Almost a decade from when he began, look at him now. He's still doing it and he became rich doing so.
Or look at Rafik, a friend of Fatal1ty who literally went homeless, selling his laptop just to go to WSVG London one time. Now hes rich off of a lot of the endorsements he has done, and he gets to do what he loves. And on top of that he became somewhat of a national hero to Africa through E-sports.
If you think being a lawyer, doctor, or some other highly conformed job is for you, and all you care about is the money, then go for it. If you think the very concept of E-sports is stupid and that games were never meant to be played for a living, this community won't miss you a bit, so pack your bags and go off to your super fancy university Senior Intelligento. But if you like gaming, and have always wanted to make a career off of it, do it. It becoming a reality is as likely as you condition it to be.

Ty for proper reply, can't see many of them anymore these days. Well, I haven't said that professional gaming is stupid or something like that? But the fact is, u can't really PLAY at professional level for the REST of ur life. Yeah, Fatal1ty is rich now, why? Because he has those products and everything on his name. If u are planning ur future to hang only on professional gaming career, I'd say think again.
First, a real job, what ever the fuck was it, will guarantee¨ 100% salary if u do what u are ment to do. In professional gaming, u get ur pay almost ONLY from winning big tournaments, if u don't have something like Fatal1ty (or someone like him) does. When organisations come in the picture, that means they'll take their part of the pay too. And second, there's always younger and better players with fresh skills after u've been in the scene for long enough. That means no one can stay at the top for long enough to really "DO IT FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE". Also, games change: where u were best once might not be so popular and "high-payed" in the future as it had been in the past.
And think twice before u're starting to give me some real fucking info how the scene won't miss me if I haven't said anything bad about pro-gaming. Question, why in hell would I be even here if I had such thoughts about professional gaming?
