Tournament Rankings 2007
2012-02-17 18:38
Hi guys !

I'm back with the year 2007. Enjoy.

Intro : On the choice of tournaments : I only picked "top" international tournaments. Some medium level tournaments are missing, and I added some pretty weak tournament just for the sake of tradition, like the first GameGune in 2003.

I put the top8 for major tournaments like ESWC, WCG, CPL Summer/Winter and top6 for IEM as the format is weird. Otherwise, it's the top4. It's ordered from the most recent to the oldest tournament of the year.

I'll release one year every 1-2 weeks.

Facts and thoughts.

- The year began with a gigantic shgOpen tournament. 128 teams, including the top30 Europe. A fascinating event to watch where the only non-european team won : MiBR. Begrip was the darkhorse of the tournament, with some new players : face, threat and azl.

- First IEM in 2007. Pentagram won 50 000 $ against the danish surprise H2k. The tournament was Europe only back then.

- ESWC 2007 was the last tournament played by Lord HeatoN. Another top8 for the spray king, who always failed to win ESWC. A year and a half after Potti, HeatoN retired. Bye bye legend.

- elemeNt also retired that year, after skipping WCG. Probably the most iconic and controversial player ever.

- "Get cancer and die." One of the few famous sentences related to CS. 4 words written by MYM]KF3 during the Ro16 match against eSTRO at WCG. There was a conflict between both teams because of a stupid "duck jump" rule. MYM eventually lost the match.

- The 3rd place of mouz at NGL-One S3 is nice, but we especially remember that it was the first appearance of the cyx & gob b mouz lineup. That same team would become the best German team of all time in 2008.

- GameGune 2007 still remains the most stacked ever. To give you an idea : PGS finished top6, MYM.no/69°N-28°E top12 and SK top16. S-T-A-C-K-E-D.

- First medal ever for Ukraine. A bronze medal won at WCG by A-Gaming with a guy named starix in the lineup. And also, a hairy dude named Edward began to slaughter everyone with Virtus.pro. Signs of the incoming Na'Vi.

- fnatic is the most stable team of the year. Three victories (IEM Los Angeles, NGL-One S3, GameGune) and three top3 (ESWC, IEM 1, NGL-One S2), that team was known to never make a mistake. And f0rest was there...

- A frustrating year for NoA. Five top3 including two major finals lost (ESWC, WCG), the Danes were probably pissed. But 2008 is coming, so, no worries.

- MiBR also deserves some lines. 1st at shgOpen, 4th at ESWC, 2nd at GameGune. Then they changed players because of CGS and they did top8 at WCG, 4th at IEM Los Angeles and 1st at DH Winter. The only man playing all the tournaments ? fnx, a true beast.

- But for every French CS fan, 2007 was the emuLate year. They won WCG (our only major title ever) and finished 3rd at GameGune and DH Winter. Simply the best French team ever.

best year for cs..
2012-02-17 19:14:07
I agree
2012-02-17 19:45:27
Who was actual "Team of the year"? I found on Wikipedia that it was PENTAGRAM, but was it really like that?
2012-02-17 19:14:19
probably fnatic got more prize moneys but PGS won two world titles (IEM and ESWC) so that decided who had the title of best team of 2007 I think
2012-02-17 19:17:10
So G5 were two times "Team of the year", right? Interesting, I didn't knew that.
2012-02-17 19:18:33
sry, If I calculate all prize moneys from fnatic and PGS, PGS won more money although fnatic participated in more events, lol didn't even know :D so PGS won more important tourney and more money :P

I calculated these prizes to polish zloty and It was:

for fnatic -> 289 120 zl

for PGS -> 355 280 zl

PGS was the best team of 2007 and 2011 only

satanion.dk for some prize money I missed when I did my .txt back then.
2012-02-17 20:00:02
MYM won the match over eSTRO, but the Koreans managed to find a one tiny duck jump that didn't affect the game what so ever. eSTRO had actually done some duck jumping as well, but they had to do a rematch where MYM lost.

I personally don't think "get cancer and die" was uncalled for, but of course offensive towards people with aids and those who have family or friends who've past away because of it.

Korean fags.
2012-02-17 19:30:23
mym had won both maps but cause of the duckjump 1 of them maps got an walkover for eSTRO so they had to play an 3rd map and ofc that was eSTROs favormap dust2 at that point mym had lost motivation aswell
:(
2012-02-17 20:40:34

Looks like the best year of the history of CS
2012-02-18 01:50:49
Amazing year =D
one question, why is elemeNt the most controversial player?
2012-02-18 03:09:21
He left almost all his teams. He left SK when they were no1 in the world. He left NoA when they were no1 in the world.

Then he made some curious choices in his career : joining MiBR while not speaking portuguese, joining mouz while not speaking german.

So a lot of people started to said that he was doing stupid choices. And he had quite a big mouth in interviews.

All these reasons caused that either you loved him or you hated him.
2012-02-18 10:17:01
http://www.sk-gaming.com/video/337440-elemeNt_13_n.. watch this interviews from xperia last year, he says he always where looking for new goals etc. very nice interview
2012-02-18 13:41:27
Yeah, I already saw it, really good itw. He's still one of my favourite player. Actually I always wanted to interview him but I never had the chance :)

PGS

roccat

the giants of 2007
2012-02-20 23:00:11
Nice, 2006 and 2007 were the best years of CS, the most balanced because every top team could win a major tournament.

Then CGS came and fucked up some teams. Only 1 USA team fighting for the top places (eMg) while coL and 3D were playing CS:S. zet, one of the best swedes of all times, left NiP and went to the USA to play for coL. The same with legends like sunman, shaGuar, volcano and Method...

mibr send their best line up of all times to CGS and didn't win anything because of some retarded rules. Thank god they hired the entire GC team and won DH, because that line up with Lance and Gau was a bit disappointing.

Ps: You have to change NoA's flag to Denmark in the money ranking.
