Future article ideas
Hola!
I'm currently staying up the night before some lengthy flights starting around noon and I was browsing around HLTV.org as usual killing time and looked at the upcoming articles.
I'm currently working on three pieces; two similar to my article I wrote about different hoorai/69N-28E/roccat lineups for SK Gaming (www.sk-gaming.com/content/33031-Different_teams_with_similar_traits) but about both EG and WinFakt, and another one that some of you saw for a bit tonight because our lovely moviemaker accidentally released it for a minute, which is my ranking of teams in 2012 that I will release once FCL has finished on June 3rd.
So my question to you is: what do you want to read me write about? Those three articles will fill out the upcoming weeks, but eventually I will need new ideas and if there is something specific you guys are interested in, let me know by leaving a comment below with your ideas! All of them will be considered and I will go with the best and most popular ideas.
As far as CS goes; yes, I am currently inactive for those who are wondering. I haven't played CS since IEM 6 WC ended a little under three months ago and I don't currently miss it, so I don't know if I will be back or not. However, there's a chance I might be competing at GameGune in July so I just might still force Marc & Petar to do all the work one more time! :D
Cheers!

make an article about how Valve and HPE are lying when they say that they included the pro scene in the development of CS:GO (something cArn, ESC, SK, Na'Vi, you and more players have completely denied but still needs to be said).

Tomi, I think its time you create an article telling everyone how much of a liLbitch Ric Bundy is.
who
inertia, used to be on UMX.
pparently he's a fgt
pparently he's a fgt
lol, why?
usa players are unknown these days...usa pro gaming is dead...only in ESEA it's alive...besides that....sorry...
please don't mention n0thing, frod, storm, dBoorn etc...we all remember who they were, but "were" is not "is"...it's oldschool, but can't show anythin on the international level right now...will be beaten by any top 10 or maybe even top 15-20 team...at the moment...any, any, any US team...unfortunate, but true...
c00L comment I just posted....

meanwhile in russia
one article wouldn't even scratch the surface though, it would have to be an elaborate 10 article series... such commitment required.

Comeback! Nasu, jigetus, aslak + basic needs you. Get that golden Winfakt line-up back! So, stop scrolling and start trolling and keep it up before you kill Finnish scene.
Only way I would reconsider playing CS again would be if my brother played, which I don't see happening and even then, I am currently not motivated to play.
It's not up to me to keep the Finnish scene alive, I've been doing that (with the help of natu while I was in the US) since 2006.

jigetus doesnt seem to be the same player, he was sick but when he join winfakt I feel he fell out of shape.
who is upcoming in finland? zabaz? tomsku? I dont follow finnish scene all that much.

jigetus is an amazing talent and an amazing fragger but he couldn't practice that much to stay on shape because he had to work if he quit his job on focus entirely on CS he will be back on his top level.

he had work which didn't let him attend tournaments and when he did, he had to make up for it by working overtime which messed with practice.
he got done with it already in early march though, so he has all the time in the world right now but he's not motivated to play cs; there aren't many tournaments, he has only gotten paid from one of the many events we attended last fall (showing how late tourneys pay which hardly motivates anyone) and it's the summer :P

1)As a spectator of cs and amateur poker player it would be fun to read about metagames of the top level with some examples. Both development wise in the past years and something about current things. Its just awesome when players like yourself or carn/threat for example are commentation matches and you can get totally different view of the matches/rounds how they play out because you guys have that extra knowledge why people do this and that. I can imagine it beeing pretty large area but even something would be nice.
2)As a finnish it would be fun to read some in-depth rankings of finnish cs players of all time!(pros and cons for each player etc.)

Can you write about other old school finish players(your ex-teammates). I mean what they are upto and do they still play now.
d-sky might be interesting topic to read about if u know much about em
I would love to read about how the game evolved.
when one team was dominating, what other team did to counter them next year, changes in strategies, all those obscure things.

+1 me too and possibly some things that were invented at which time period and how it got in to the scene(how fast, which team adapted it first).. meaning like counter-taccing, duckwalk, awptowers etc.
edit: shoulder peeks, jump peeks, stop flashes, (the famous smoke-flash by heaton), different styles of map playing etc.

+1 and maybe why or how awp-Players seem to make out the slight difference between the topteams nowadays
Agreed!
Your life style in USA when you were playing with EG, gaminghouse, job, typical day, and stuff...
I want you to do a series on Improving game sense and Movement. You can commentate on a video where a player is showing great movement or game sense. The main question is WHY HE IS DOING THIS AND NOT DOING THAT. I never got a chance to play with PRO players so what i learnt so far is either by demos or by playing.
The only thing he could do is commentating his own demos, or maybe his brother's. He's not in the mind of every pro player, even if he might understand it more than you, a lot of players think totally different.
I'd personally like to see the article on EG. You're fairly unique given your experience with them. It would be good to get your take on aspects such as your experience playing with people like n0thing and frod as well as what it was like to live and play in the US coming from Finland.
About your role as in game leader when your team is losing f.e. 13-2 and you switch sides, about something more than stats here.
Well done dude!
You could do like number 23, neo or forest? :P!
Anyhow, who the hell is Petar?
Edit: Also why the hell wouldn't you force your younger brother naSu back into 1.6? He's easily one of the best if not the best Finnish player I've ever seen.

Thank you for your dedication and work in hltv.org, Tgwri1s :)

I think if ruuit and contE didn't take the fragging roles in hoorai my brother would have become even better than ruuit, who was top5 in the world.
He's not motivated because of some of the following: CS takes lots of time for little return, real life is more important and finally, because he's sick of going to tourneys to play for imaginary prize pots that don't get paid out.

That's sad -.-! I literally enjoy watching him play as much as I enjoy watching Neo. Great sense of movement and reflexes. Goddamit naSu!
+ I don't think he got to give out his full potential in Winfakt before he left. He was a beast in the big deciding games.

Actually #23's idea is not that bad. Even though I don't really want you to go for a neo/f0rest debate, I think something focused on a player(s) would be pretty interesting.
Tournaments- behind the scenes
Details about what goes on in tournaments that viewers probably wont see such as afterparties, any particular behaviour from specific teams outside of the game such as which good teams roam around having fun, which teams instead just focus on their game during breaks? do the unknowns always just hang out with their team in a corner? Any betting between teams on the site? Any special nieches that asians/europeans/us-players have?
I know this might be hard to write about since it easily becomes too personal/unprofessional/team-/player-specific or even racist. But maybe you can give it a shot :P

yeah .... really nice idea
Yeaah, some "insider" things. Maybe I'll finally know why you hate France so much.
i would never talk about after parties or anything else going on outside of the game because it's not my place to do that.
i have never heard of teams betting on anything... i bet cogu at gamegune 2007 that we would beat logitech 2-0 at wcg finland, i guess that counts.
nothing special that i can think of tbh.

If you want to help the cs stay alive you can write a blog about some tips of your and other pros to help new teams improve their skills and gameplay.
I personaly believe that there is a huge potenial in the young and unknown teams in each country.
All the need is the help of a pro who can teach them the things that they are missing.

lurppis, write about this cs year, and the future.
And also about tips to be a pro player, you can make a movies to example, and write some articles about it.

hey lurppis, whats up?
i think you could write about some things that the pro's never talk about:
the politcs on E-sports ; its really exist? sometime in your whole carrer you have been "hindered" for some polical reason, or something like that? the big orgas have some "help" ?
the difficults to be a pro player, the instability with the orgas, the pressure you guys have to win and things like that
you see ANY future in CS 1.6 scene, or the only way to continue, is a new game?
the CS:GO developers started to hear cs 1.6 pro's or its all just the same as before? you have any hope on the game? or you really wait for some CS 2?
and some personal questions that everyone here wants to hear of a pro player ( and you seems to be the only who speak siceraly about all this shit)
like: the best team ever, the best player ever, the top 3 players atm, the best awper ever, the best event you ever attended
(this is my personal question): a lot of times, you said about some decisions that ex-EG players taken, and it resulted in the end of the team, and some "fights" in US scene, can you talk about it? explain to us, what really happened, and happens in USA scene?
thank you :D

I think it'd be very interesting to read about atmosphere inside of the team, how relationships between teammates affect the game etc. E.g, according to Starix it's much better for a team when teammates are rather colleagues than friends. I'd gladly hear Lurppis's opinion about that :)
Write about what it is like being a pro gamer. Tell the routine, how much money is actually made (:D), how the cash prize gets distributed. Also, I've never seen any article here which inspires a person to become a pro gamer. Take us through your life journey. Everything related to your career all these years :)
Thanks!

I could find it interesting for you to "rank" IGL's throughout the years! Most mainstream followers would rank the likes of cArn&RobbaN as some of the best IGL's of all times. However I remember such things as Element being considered the best and moon being the most feared for his "antistrat" skills as well as LeX for being such a emotional caller!
Don't know if it's possible, but it would be fun to see what your opinion on some form of IGL list throughout the years! As mentioned the ones that I think of are the likes of;
Moon
Element
walle
robban
carn
lex
goodfella
snajdan
gob
Pz!

You mention all these and forget ave ? Shit man
Not so much that I forgot to mention him, but he is known amongst the "elite" already, I'm more interested in those who maybe haven't always gotten the fame they deserve! He is of course one of the most tactical igls ever xD
don't really understand your reply to roman since u mentioned players like carn robban walle & elemeNt
gob b and ave are the best in-game leaders imo, carn is up there because of his leadership ability (as in, he seems to be a good leader to a group of people, although his strats aren't necessarily up there with the other two).
i think robban is clearly better than the other in-game leaders individually, but his strat calling doesn't even compare to carn's.
snajdan was always an annoying person to play against because of the odd way his teams used to play, seemed like his main goal was to annoy you playing against them.
i think walle was good in 2005-2007 but after that he lost it or didn't care enough. i'm not sure why goodfella, moon or lex are even on that list (although the latter two used to be really really good individually).
i only played one match against element ever competitively so i haven't played against him enough to commentate on him.

edit: forgot zeus.
The reason I mention mooN & LeX is because in a load of interviews mainly at fragbite, when the major igl's are interviewed, they mention them as some of the toughest to predict, and hardest to play against. mooN was always known to do crazy things like play four players in the same place offensively as CT on weapon rounds, stack 3+ at the smaller bombsites on weapon rounds.
honestly virtus.pro played pretty dumb cs at all times which is why they never succeeded majorly despite of having good players (like lex).
attax played majorly boring, passive, predictable cs. while they might have done weird things (and did as ct in 06-07), their terrorist play was default slow boring german cs.

I agree with you. But aren't you contradicting yourself a bit?
I mean, gob b and mouz never really won anything either, not a lot anyway. And I always thought mouz threw rounds away by playing very slow. They could have the upper hands on several rounds and then lose them by playing to slow (also talking about T).
mTw was one of the most stable teams ever, always placed themselves top 3 pretty much, but they never really dominated. So why ave?
I'm not critizicing you or saying you're opinion is wrong, just asking. I'm merely a spectator, yet a persistant one, you would obiously know better.
Imo strat callers of Pentagram/FX, SK, fnatic and Na'Vi would be the best ones by logic?

gob b and ave led their teams in a smart way strategically which enabled teams that didn't have nearly as much skill as their competition to compete.
mtw was the best team for almost a year (2008) where they were completely undefeatable. that was domination for sure.
pgs, sk and fnatic NEVER won because of their strats, they won because they had superior players. na`vi had good calling, i added zeus after a bit (forgot him at first).
there is a GIANT difference in winning because f0rest kills everyone and because your setups revolving around flashes worked.
on that note, i think threat is also up there in the conversation, i forgot him earlier.

I see your point for sure. Individual skill is huge, I guess that's why SK is so up and down.
But what did mTw win beside ESWC 2008? I can't remember them dominating like fnatic, SK, PGs and Na'Vi did.

I think that all goes with evolution of CS. In 2006, when I saw pgs, I said something like wow, thats rly interesting how their aggresive game style works.
Later, in 2008 mTw started to dominate and it was interesting, how they played round by round with their precise tactics. I said (as always, when someone started to be better than others), that this game style is unbeatable.
I was wrong in many ways (fortunately, it would be boring). I thought that its impossible to make effective to play in one team with two "super aimers". Fnatic in 2009 did it and it was fantastic year to watch cs. cArn was perfect at using good abilities of his players to win important rounds.
In 2010 NaVi were appeared with their super anti strats and this story everybody knows....
I just want to say, that CS history shown interesting ways how to lead counter strike team, there is no "best way", just many possibilities.

i agree there is no clear best way, but certain ways to lead a team require a lot more skill from a tactical point of view.
it requires good leadership to know when to let your players run wild (á la fnatic 2009) but it's nothing in comparison to all the preparation and hard work of zeus, ave, gob b, threat etc.

hey lurppis , tell us how did u pass ur time in usa? u spent around 1,5 years (?) there, how was it?
First of all, big thumbs up for you for still careing about the community, and do such stuff.
Secondly, I would personally like an article focused on The Titans back in 2003-2004 with KK, whiMp, MoRf4R etc. or maybe the Scnadinavian NoA team with XeqtR, prb, zonic, hpx and Paddy.
Basicly the good oldschool nothern teams. I'm sure many would agree.

i don't think i know enough about the scene in 2003-2004 to write such an article, this would be better directed at a person like thorin ^^. i was just starting out then, so while i followed it, i wouldn't trust my judgment then.

Just arrived and read up on messages, since there is no real clear theme here I might write a column type entry answering a bunch of shorter but interesting questions.
Even though I've been around for forever in the CS 1.6 scene, I don't feel knowledgeable enough to talk about teams prior to 2005, so I'm afraid I can't help on articles with them.
A lot of the questions regarding my time in EG and living in USA will be answered in the article about EG once I finish it.
If you have more ideas, feel free to keep them coming!

write up something about finnish cs "scene". Would be nice to hear some opinions about it :)
Write about the Scandinavian scene. Norway,Sweden,Finland,Iceland(?),Denmark
Pros?
Cons?
What do you think about the future of Scandinavian gaming?
Will it succeed? Or will it fail because of immature kids on the internet?
Whine ingame, racism ingame (irc), no respect during matches (ingame, irc)
Or will they change? Taking it a bit more seriously?
Global match channel to be known to everyone, seeing there's not so much ping difference (not sure about Iceland)
Scandinavian 'scene' overview
Which websites do they have? (in Sweden,Norway,Denmark,Finland,Iceland(?)
Teams in Scandinavia ?
Short overview of players ?
I think you get the point.

Assuming you are in contact with a lot of pro players, you could for example make a little project around a certain player. This certain pro player could choose out his favorite pov of all time, and explain to the users why he played his game at that time. By doing this, links could be made to his play style of back then in opposition to his current play style, showing us, the HLTV-ers, how a pro actually reflects on his own progress.
I know it's kind of time consuming, for both that player and you. I am not even sure this is something YOU should do (or even should do at the moment), given the context of your timeschedule etc... I guess it's more of a format that would fit into a video (or even something stream-ish) rather than a blog/article; maybe a combination of both is worthwhile(?).
Just a random idea that popped into my head that could be taken into consideration :)

if i was lucky i might be able to persuade 1-2 people to do that, simply not a realistic thing to try to do. also, i don't really like streaming, it's too time consuming and limits my life too much. i prefer writing.
Already thought so that that would be your response. Nevertheless, it would have been nice if some other pro (or someone else known / of the scene) attempted to set up this project :(
without money involved it's just impossible to get people to put in hours of work for projects like that, it's just the reality.
sk gaming tried to set up something similar with me and get_right sometime last year but when it comes down to having to dedicate let's say two hours for "work" in the evening when you have other plans, if there is no reward, it's too easy to say no.

It's a shame that money >>> doing something for the community.
Oh well.
Oh well.
what you do not seem to understand is that every top player has a life too, and playing cs on its own usually takes a lot of the free time away.
i've had a pretty sizable amount of evenings and weekends blocked out by CS in the past 8 years so i'm not too keen on just giving them away when i finally have freedom, and neither is anyone else.
of course everyone could do a little bit which most people don't do, but i'm not sure it's realistic to ask people who may not feel comfortable speaking in english in the first place to spend an hour watching a demo and recording it (plus the time it would take to prepare for it etc), just to be nice when there's a good chance they have really busy lives to begin with.

Seems like I think differently over the whole concept of spending time because I'm on the other side of the project, I'm the recipient. Where there is a will there is a way, it seems to me (& maybe the other HLTV-ers).
Unfortunately, as you say as a prime witness of the scene, the other side thinks otherwise and there's simply nothing we can do about this.
Even so, I would still like to thank you for your interest and your input.

of course where there is a will there is a way, but you have to understand there currently is no will on this side of the table.
i like writing and therefore i'm open to doing things on that end, but videos simply feel like 100% pure work.
any ideas for writing are welcome though :)

just ways to improve self skills and how to help lead a team even if down to 14-1 say..
You have been around for a while and played this game and have watched how the style have changed.
I know it might be hard to write about but it cpuld be super interesting reading your opinion about how the gamestyle or gameplay of cs 1.6 have changed during the last 7-8 years.

How about an article about the time I spend liking stuff on your Facebook just to unlike it shortly after?!
king of the thread :o
Write about the events which didn't pay prizemoney :D
already saw it, and I wanted to see bigger thread about it
what would you like me to elaborate on?
Why do you risk to play same event in the next year?
Did you do any legal stuff against these events?
Did you do any legal stuff against these events?
never went to any of those events again except for wsvg, and their later events paid me. digifest is different, in the end we went because if they had paid, it would have been annoying knowing we let animus win 3k€ for free that we could have had, it was a calculated risk.
iem will pay us, it just takes time, there is no question about that in my mind.

Write about your "starting" career in CS, how did you started to play CS,what was your first tournament, first pro offer etc... :P

my friends introduced me to it and it was my brother who eventually made me wanna play because i wasn't a big fan of cs at first.
all my tournaments are listed in my profile if you click on my name so you can see for yourself but my first real tournament was cpl spain where we beat 3d (which i've written about 50000 times by now i'm sure).
only team i was ever asked to join was eg and i guess to make winfakt with basic, every other time i was the one who made the team.

just one question, not that much related specifically to your cs career but to the whole scandinavian scene.. do you love summer that much? i mean, i've read like a thousand times that players from norway, sweden, finland, just decide to go inactive during summer.
i know scandinavia has a huge difference between summer and winter regarding daylight or even weather, i guess that's somehow related.
i know it's a bizarre question, but just wondering if you could answer it :)
chau! (you said "hola" in my language, now that's "bye")

on december 21 this year our day will be 5h49min long. in comparison, june 20th will be over 18h55min long.
add to that the fact it's snowy, slushy and it rains/snows a bunch in the winter while temps drop all the way down to -20 celsius in february and in the summer it's 20-30 degrees, i think the answer is simple.
people like to enjoy the little good weather they get :D.
ciao!

Well i love reading articles about cs, more than watching matches...well i will enjoy reading:
-Articles about the history of a team (all lineups, epic moments, good demos-videos, and some curiosities)
-Articles about tips of the game (how to play inner @train, setups for different maps, some strategies (like when zonic used to post here)
-Reviews to gaming stuff (not sponsored, it would become meaningless)
-Demos analyzing (Like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6UD9kGGM3Q) but more advanced, would be PERFECT)
.
What i would NOT enjoy:
-Real life of the players.
-CS:GO
-HLTV stuff (the webpage)(except the dreamteam, i'd like to know exactly how it works)
Gl!

coalli?
A deep article about norwegian cs stars would be nice to read :- ))
i don't feel anywhere near confident enough to know enough about the norwegian scene to write about it, sorry
Understandable :- ) We have/did have loads of unknown up and rising until they quit before even making the international scene
What do you think is the biggest element for semi-elite players to become one of the best players out there..
I've seen a couple and they were always good but they always seem to become a whole new player all of a sudden...(I do understand they probably have more confidence as they feel more confidence and motivation etc but just the awareness gets better as a whole i feel like)

i think the talented people are often the quickest learners so one they're given a chance to learn from a new group of people and pick up on a bunch of things (e.g. from playing against better people) they just start absorbing information like a sponge.
as a result, they take big leaps fairly quickly because they are so motivated and put in a lot of hours. confidence also plays a factor and can push people over the top.

First of all, I welcome your initiative to ask readers for their opinion on the upcoming articles.
In my case, I would find it interesting to read about former pro-gamers who stopped playing CS in order to fully commit themselves to poker. You could talk about the motivation to switch, similarities to CS and maybe to elaborate why/how they also became successful in poker. Maybe also in respect to the prerequisities to become successful at anything.
To sum it up, you could give actual examples including their stories. Shaguar is a poker player and I heard conte is also successful at it?

apart from plaste and real who make a living from poker (not conte), i don't think i could really gain enough access to people who play poker for a living.
it would actually be an interesting idea, but i don't think two people are enough especially because they probably don't want to share too much.
if i could get in contact with example gob b, tr1p or dsn and they were willing to chime in it would be cool, but i might ask real and plaste what they think.
good idea, but requires lots of help from others (and relying on other people often makes it hard to finish things - i'll see what i can do).

Strat callers obviously maintain teams inside the game. My real question is do they do this as well outside of CS? Some teams have internal problems outside of the game that lead them to losses and poor coordination. Does the strat caller have to play a median and a glue of the team not only inside the game but outside of it as well? Since he the strat caller is probably the most important role of the team in the grand scheme and long run he must try to keep his team under control?
Another question more toward professionalism; The statements always read as some kind of excuse for the reason of the kicking which would be obvious but sometimes I feel these arent entirely true. Do players sometimes force teamates to leave the team because of strong dislike toward eachother? Does the team decide which player is more valuable in a disagreement among two or more players and then force the player out. I'm not even talking completely about individual skill here more about the behavior outside of the game.

from my experience the glue within a team is often someone totally different than the strat caller, because due to the strat caller being the person who tells people what to do, he is the most likely to get into arguments with players (unless people just flat out collide personality wise).
for example in 69N-28E natu was our glue and in EG it was warden and then gfn.
fRoD actually once told me that he wanted me to be more of a leader outside of the game as well but I told him that I call strats, I'm not his dad.
obviously as the caller you tend to often be the person with most leadership and you end up making decisions (meet up here at 7:30am, let's eat at this restaurant, watch demos in our hotel room at 8pm, etc) but the actual GLUE of the team is often another person based on my experience.
----------------------
most of the time statements aren't truthful but that's how it works in all sports - the spectators aren't entitled to all the information within a team.
what happened in EG was a prime example, me and fRoD couldn't get along due to various issues so in the end he blackmailed n0thing with storm and dboorn to get rid of me although n0thing wanted to play with me (but more on that in the coming article).
personally i don't think teammates have to be friends, they just have to be able to get along normally. if you're friends then that's great and it's a bonus, but it's not a necessity.
i have had good friends in all of my previous teams and those are the ones i'd have more fun traveling with, but friendships also keep people in teams that should no longer be there for other reasons.

Hey Tomi, this might sound like a noobish question but since you brought it up during the stream tonight I might as well ask. What's the main difference between using the silencer with the colt? I've noticed a lot of pro players switch between using it and or considering the distance.
"'m currently staying up the night before some lengthy flights starting around noon and I was browsing around HLTV.org as usual killing time and looked at the upcoming articles. "
Don't waste your time killing time cause u're not killing it! The time kills u! Unfortunately, all of us notice it when it's too late!

As long as you mention how amazing GFN was I will consider anything you write a success ;)
Hey Tomi! What I'd really love your future articles to cover could include the following:
1. Having played for an American team and having spent considerable amount of time in the U.S. and then back to an EU team, how would you differentiate between the scenes, the demographic, the organizations and the entire feel from a professional player's perspective? What is it that you would change, if you could change, say 5-10 things?
2. You're quite vocal about a lot of things and often get a lot of criticism for the same. It's almost similar to saying something against an ethnicity or religion because you and many others get swarmed by unquestionable dogmas and the people behind them. How about an article on the indoctrination of eSports and Counter Strike 1.6 specifically?
