The future of Counter-Strike
2012-06-16 01:54
First thing firsts, so I would like to introduce myself a bit.

I'm a 15 years old student, living in Prague (the capital city of Czech Republic).
Although I was born here, I am Vietnamese.

.. I understand most of people are laughing at me as they read how old I am, saying I coudln't have experienced anything and that I know nothing about CS.
To those people, don't read this blog, I'm not gonna beg you and I fully understand you.
To the other, I thank you for reading my article and I would be very happy if someone left any kind of feedback.

However, this blog is not about me, but about encouraging our 1.6 community to not stop playing and not losing our dedication.

1) Intel Extreme Masters
A day ago, IEM (more specifically ESL) announced they won't support 1.6 anymore on main stage and worldwide - just in Europe or in appropriate events.

..This is a huge shortcoming for us. A game that made them was just left behind because of money. A quite unfair decision ESL has made.

Lately, I've seen many comments such as: Don't watch IEM7.
When they pick a game such as DOTA2, which has (to be honest) a much bigger playerbase, don't tell me they won't make more money - they woudln't care about us. The struggle is that IEM already has a MOBA game on its list and that is LoL. That means the chance for DOTA2 to be added is poor.

We can be wondering what game will be added to IEM if it will be a FPS. Call of Duty, Battlefield? That would be a step to hell for ESL.

2) World Cyber Games
Hours after Carmac's announcement of IEM dropping 1.6 as the main title (www.hltv.org/news/8658-iem-drops-cs-16-as-main-title), we've got another bad news here.
Rumors of WCG dropping Counter-Strike.

If WCG drop Counter-Strike it will technically mean organizers throughout the world don't support 1.6 anymore.

Hopefully that won't happen thanks to Chinese CS activity.

3) TO SUM UP

Last two days were heartbreaking for our community and any dedicated Counter-Strike player.

But come on guys!
HLTV.org community, don't let them break our hearts!
Stop talking about the death of Counter-Strike scene.
No IEM, (maybe) no WCG? We've got Dreamhack being held twice a year, we've got ESWC, Gamegune, Asus tourneys and hopefully more to come! A major tournament? When they realize 1.6 is still a big business thanks to the huge community being active and a lot of professional teams, they will create a new one.

What am I trying to say is:
The real thing to worry about now is us and the professionals to not retire.

If Counter Strike was the most magnificient FPS game with the largest number of events for the past 12 years, why couldn't it be for longer?

It depends on us.
STOP CONSIDERING ABOUT SWITCHING TO ANOTHER VERSION OF CS OR ANOTHER GAME.
STOP SAYING 1.6 IS DEAD.
STOP BLAMING SOMEONE AND TURN YOUR COUNTER-STRIKE ON.

Howk, thanks for reading :D
Billionth Thread about the same thing.
Get this straight, It's NOT Gonna die.
2012-06-16 02:27:21
oh please..thats based on what?at least what he says is based on facts, speculating isnt good
2012-06-16 02:30:33
Sorry for that, but I'm a very expressional person.
Had to write this.

Atleast, by the amount of threads and blogs and comments and so on, maybe ESL will realize it was a wrong decision.
2012-06-16 02:33:02
Hmm. Good point :) But the Online Game wont die. Ever. :D
2012-06-16 10:21:45
he didnt say anything about cs 1.6 will die or something... learn to read, dumbass.
2012-06-16 21:30:56
True dat. They don't dominate the CS world, even if it's a huge loss. Let's just follow the other ones who still believe in CS and show them they were wrong to drop this awesome game.
2012-06-16 02:50:43
WCG has announced to drop 1.6 definitely.

It's a RUMOR, when will you people get that?

About Counter-Strike dying, yes, IEM was the best event out there but for example look at the CS:S/COD 4 scene, all they have is online and BYOC tournaments and their competitive community is still pretty much alive.
2012-06-16 02:53:41
Oh my god, I'm really sorry, missed that out (was probably mad and blind due to my anger). Gonna edit that right away.

I don't really know much about COD4 scene, but according to my friend who plays it it's not really interesting (only locals LANs are good, acc. to him)

Talking about CS:S, I totally agree w you, but there also were a few noticable tourneys.
Ofc. it will never be like 1.6, but it's not such a fail considering its unpopularity in the beginning.

COD4 actually is more alive then CS:S... if Dreamhack and IEM supported COD4 it would be a great game... sadly it wont happen
2012-06-16 21:35:07
Let's hope it stays at the Rumor state. But Rakaka is quite a realiable source.
2012-06-16 03:29:26
cs 1.6 is in a bubble. europe is the only place it's still popular and profitable for companies. 1.6 had a good run, but it's over. move on, man, move on.
2012-06-16 03:23:49
I can't believe how EVERY American on this board is 110 % certain that counter-strike 1.6 is just a memory.

I don't know the deal on your side of the pond, but around here, the game is still alive and kickin'. And that is exactly the reason why so many Euro's is so upset about the last couple of days and the news that followed.

We actually still have a 1.6 scene and many of us is not ready to let this game go just yet. So guess what, we are still putting up a fight!

Can't figure out why you guys are even on this board, when apparently it is just a graveyard?
2012-06-17 00:12:38
I don't really know if they should create a new game.
Don't know if ppl care that much about graphic. I don't know how it works and if you can just improve graphic and keep engine like LoL did, don't know if that's possible but anyway...
I would play CS way more, like I used to if it featured matchmaking, ranking and all that stuff wich you need in todays world.
2012-06-16 03:39:15
I'd be very unsure about a new game, since new graphics with the same physics would be prepostorous (imo).

But yea, there's CSP which is quite good. I believe it will be better and maybe, it will get to the competitive scene.

The sad thing is, that Valve has never really given any proper support to Counter-Strike as a mod of Half-Life.
Maybe it's an old game for them, but when it's a big business, they should've done something to keep it better..

Valve seem to be forgetting all their games as they focus on DOTA2. A huge event is going to be held, The International 2 /prizepool 1mil bucks/. Don't understand why there's no such event from Valve for Counter-Strike.
2012-06-16 12:14:03
dota2 fan base is global
2012-06-16 17:27:52
Exactly. Which makes it a extremely powerful money source (with its own market now and with competitive scene) for Valve.
2012-06-16 19:51:17
yupp if all the world was like europe for 1.6. I'm sure it would still be rocking
2012-06-16 20:22:01
The difference is that Valve never really held events for Counter-Strike nor supported it.
Now with DOTA2, you can see the full support from Valve - huge upcoming event called The International 2 with prizepool 1 mil bucks.
Counter-Strike has never had such event from Valve. In fact it has never had ANY event from Valve...
2012-06-16 20:26:43

remember the box on nuke? took them YEARS to fix that bug, they just don't care wich is sad
2012-06-16 21:01:52

I'm sorry but retirement from the professionals would mean only one thing, and that is demotivation for us, ordinary players.
Their retirement would be followed by a noticeable loss in number of players..

So we should care.
2012-06-16 20:08:01
only kids will follow them because they too want to became "pro"
2012-06-16 20:09:24
like your opinion, gj
2012-06-16 11:54:12
future this CS:GO
2012-06-16 15:47:47
cs 1.6 no dead
2012-06-16 15:51:11
cs is deading
2012-06-16 17:54:19
I will return for 2010, the best year for cs.
2012-06-16 18:19:50
Good blog. I personaly believe CS 1.6 won't die, maybe in pro level. But it's also improbable. I don't think CS:GO is real replacement for such a legendary game. 1.6 is abour skill and hours of training, not about luck (like GO).

<3 1.6
2012-06-16 20:17:13
Thank you! :)
+ I totally agree.
2012-06-16 23:33:21
improbable? and who will pay them? you?
2012-06-17 14:51:43
Haha, if I would have enough money, I would give them in 1.6. Definitely. Sadly, I'm poor student.

And yes pro scene may die but you can't say it with 100% probability.
2012-06-17 16:38:34
yes i can...one day this game will end,you cant stop progress
2012-06-17 19:52:36
What a stupid blog, one cannot deny the fact, that 1.6 is dying slowly. Just take a glimpse at the bigger tournament organizers, they are removing it, because the era of cs 1.6 is over.
2012-06-17 15:48:31
xD
2012-06-18 17:46:56
Even if we lag behind european countries in 1.6 but we indians also dont want to let this game go or die. Its just EPIC
2012-06-18 21:43:58
ok, STOP SAYING 1.6 IS DEAD .
2012-06-19 11:10:11
I just drop by to say Hello and good luck to you.
