CS 1.6 dying - CS:GO and whatnot
Hey there guys!
Here's just some of my own thoughts on cs dying, us needing a new game
and all that crap.
If we talk about CS 1.6 in a competetive term then we would definitely refeer to it as a sport even though you might want to be a hipster
and call it an "underground" sport.
CS 1.6 nowadays is just like soccer/football or even basketball and hockey or could atleast be compared to it.
Sure you can chill play with your friends from time to time (Casuals) just kick the ball around a little bit and play it as a hobby, but you can also play it professionaly!
Now for you guys (who are turning cs:go into a kiddyversion of cs 1.6)
just like soccer you have to practice to become good.
Sure, you can always play no matter how bad you are, but if you wanna learn that awesome dribble you see ronaldo pull or something then OFCOURSE you have to practice.
Well, cs:go removes this and kinda turns it into a cod version of CS. Sad but true.
An example:
Soccer has been around forever, and the only thing we change from time to time are the rules.
We don't change the round balls for triangle like frisbees (Meaning we don't change the GAME) and rather not the PHYSICS of the game (It's hard to argue and alter with gravity and physics IRL generally)
because it's good as it is.
Think if anybody tried to remake soccer but instead of the ball we carry a cylinder on our head and the goal is to carry it as long as possible without dropping it, would it still be soccer?
So the idea to replace 1.6 with GO is a shitty attempt to start with
but instead the guys should focus on creating something new instead.
Sorry for my shitty grammer right now but it's 7am here in sweden afterall.
So, what are your thoughts on this?
PS.
Reason why the CS community is slowly dying or atleast decreasing is probably because of the cheaters constantly bashing the CS community under the belt all theese years.

Would you kindly like to elaborate your no more than 1 word statement?

"No" because CS isn't dying because of involvement if cheaters in it, every game has cheaters.
Sponsors are lacking interest because of LoL and starcraft. We all know they have numerous amount of active players/spectators and that's the only thing which attracts sponsors to invest there money.
Valve stopped supporting 1.6 long back, and now they brought CS:GO in the scene. TaZ said in interview with thoorin that IEM and other orgas removed 1.6 because of lack of support/involvement from Valve. Otherwise, why all big organizations will remove #1 FPS game?

actually there is a competition of SC2 going on(homestory cup or smth) and the main stream had 40k spectators..dont think its actually a big number tbh lol
Well, if you check this site www.leagueoflegendsstreams.com, will you see that daily streams from famous players(mainly playing solo qeue) have about 20k each, even though they are not playing tournaments, and important stuff.
In my opinion, it is. You can't compare raw numbers of spectators with game such as CS, because in SC2 you've got a number of interesting tournaments daily. If you want to watch some SC2 action, you just head over to the biggest community site and choose one of the numerous interesting streams. Variety of games to choose from (for example: HSC has two simultaneous streams which cover two independent games at one time) means slightly lower peak number of spectators for one stream, but also much higher mean number of spectators for all the streams combined.
It is somewhat sad for me too. I'm a huge fan of esports myself and I've been playing CS like forever. However, about 99% of the time, I have to go with SC2 in terms of watching something competitive, because on our scene there's like nothing. Lack of online tournaments, lack of players streaming... CS scene seems to be dead compared to SC2.

Don't even compare 12-year old computer game with no tournaments to a most successive real life game.
Nobody is trying to kill football, because football is actual through the ages. cs is not. cs is getting older - football is not.
cs is being replaced by other computer games, because game manufacturers is trying to follow the generation, trying to beat each other with in-game graphics, "real-feel" etc. PCgame manufacturers are ought to follow gear manufacturers. to get money they need their game to be interested by sponsors. and sponsors are interested in games, that can help them to sell their new devices. that's why the games are getting older from time to time.
football is not. nobody is trying to create new football because there's no need to get more money. football is works as it is.

Some good words, but that's still not why 1.6 is dying.
CS is basicly dying due the lack of our now really bleak fanbase.
And that's not because there are other games coming out since the majority of people don't just stop playing cs but they also leave gaming fully.
So it beeing replaced is just bullcrap.
Starcraft2 for instance was a great addition to the e-sport scene. Sure they added new graphics (But not that much better, atleast not to compete with todays games) but they keept the SAME gameplay and changed the RULES. Something cs:go maybe should do to even have a shot.

SC2 does not have the same gameplay as BW unless by gameplay you mean both being RTS games. Even right now with the Korean transition to SC2, a ton of BW players are switching over to LOL instead.
We are all against CS:GO... But that doesn't mean we don't need a new game, we do. And i'm sorry, you're wrong. CS is dying due competition, and all the secondary factors that comes with it
"CS 1.6's old graphics are often cited as a reason for the game's decline in the eyes of tournament organizers. Do the graphics actually play any part in your game selection process and do you get pressured by sponsors to pick games with better graphics or is it all about viewership and the size of the community?
I have NEVER heard a single word from any of our sponsors about graphics. In fact, for our event in Shanghai two seasons ago it was Intel that asked us to run a local Chinese DotA tournament. We all know DotA is a game made on a 2002 engine."

I played CS:GO for the first time today. I thought it was decent. But the spraying... Wtf have they done? Spraying is freaking hilarious. But I thought it was a DECENT game. Will it replace 1.6 in quality? No. Fucking. Way. But it wasn't as horrible as everyone says it is. I also hate the jump dynamics. They annoy me. My biggest pet peeve just like with source is the death animations. When I one shot someone in CS it just feels so good to watch them go flying back feeling the "owned" rushing through my veins. I don't feel this way when I play source and CS:GO
I think it's high time we change the round balls to "triangle like frisbees". I would also like to see people carrying cylinders on their head and running as long as they can become a major mainstream sport.
Time for Shootmania <3
+1 imo there is a big chance that shootmania will be perfect game to competition. i hope that it will replace FPS game on all events.
lol. CS isn't soccer/football of esports.
Everybody memorized the maps and guns. Players reached their best. In football, you can see gamestyles are always changing.

In my mind it's basicly just the same in CS.
New people, new tactics, etc.
So you're saying that everybody haven't memorized the soccer field yet?
The match is not made by the soccerfield but by the players themselves. It's just the same in CS. So what if you memorized the maps and guns? Just like in soccer it's whos the best at it. And new players rise all the time, CS now is MUCH better than it were a couple of years back when NIP dominated the stage. The old NIP today would not win against FNATIC or NA'VI. Not even close. Sure they were best at the time, but CS progressed so much and alot of oldschool players (like HeatoN,Spawn, potti, tentpole, zet etc) even agree that cs is still progressing.

Everything changes in football all the time. You can't memorize anything.
But in CS. You have only a few ways to rush A or B.

Hahahahahaha.. You only have a few ways to rush the GOAL.
So why teams have coachs? They're making many strategies. And strategies are changing every time. In CS. Strategies are limited. You can't fly when you're rushing B in inferno.

LOL you don't understand the game then. That's like saying that in football you only have to put the ball in the soccer goal (i'm pretty sure that's not how it's called in english, but you get it)
You don't understand my sentence. The strategies are unlimited.
Strats in CS are unlimited as well. You can have millions of combinations.
Example? don't say me " fake a and rush b"
Can be, just that "flash and rush b", you can fake it in dozens of different ways, with different flashes different wallbangs and pretty sure everything that you want, and when rushing b, you when you rush b, you can rush in dozens of different ways as well.
To be honest, imo cs have just as much strategy in it like soccer if not more.
If you really need someone to explain WHY to you then you're just in lack of some common sense or you don't know enough of the game to even make a statement.
Anyhows, imma let you take this with PICC since he seems to have his head on the right place.
(the goal of soccer: To put the ball in your opponents goal and prevent the other team from putting the ball in yours).
I'm not saying thats all there is to it in soccer but thats the general GOAL. And how you do it have infinite ways, but generally you pass the ball alot.
It's the same in CS, and the same rules are there. There is a general goal and thats to take as many rounds as possible, but CS have more ways since you have alot more to think about. There's economy, there are several different tools to use, how you put your players on the "field" are just the friggin basics (Ex. Rushes ETC)

That's why we're always seeing same plays from teams these years.
People got bored because of it and cs won't reach many viewers like old times.
e-star crowd was awful last year. There was no big crowd for CS1.6 in IEM last year. Presenter forced the little crowd for cheering 1st team.

thats just because the game is old and looks bad....not many new players gets into a game like 1.6....and strategies are
not limited in 1.6 thats just crazy to say.
not limited in 1.6 thats just crazy to say.
lol by that logic football players reached their maximum because they memorized the footbal field
Fuck CS:GO. fuck huge tournament. fuck professional game. let's switch to CS promod or stick with 1.6 and have fun. if we keep playing 1.6/CSP and nobody plays CS:GO, sponsors might change their mind.
e-sports is a joke.
Every game will get replaced by newer one.
So the time spent in becoming a good player goes to waste.

Real sports are based on human abilities. You can't find football players who can play faster and better day by day. There are limits of human abilities. Real sport has only minor changes, because main component (human) is not becoming stronger, faster, etc.
Same time esports based on tech flow. Graphics better, CPUs faster and so on. Why are you not playing Fifa on Nintendo 8 bit? Because it's ugly. You would like to play with better graphic, against smarter bots, with low latency via Internet, etc.
My words are not meaning that Valve made a correct decision, but same time it's a bad idea to compare real sports and esports.

Actually, the only reason why i'm not playing Fifa on nintendo 8bit is because it's not competetive enough and the game mechanics themselves would be very "clanky" due to the limitation of coding.
CS on the other hand is practicly perfect as it is and that's why it lived on for so many years.
Sure it could use a little tweaks here and there but other than that, pretty nice.
Reason why i compared CS to Soccer is because once they were both as successfull in their own genre.
Games can suck, maybe i didn't wanna play fifa because it's just a shit game just like there are shitsports. Your fifa can be my equivalent to GOLF, so your comparison were just as bad as mine in that case.
You're highly limited to what you can do, and because i'd probably be playing supermario instead.

I think that few people on that site are absolutly missing the point...
Counter Strike never was and isnt esports title. The only game u can call esports is Starcraft/2. And maybe even Starcraft isnt the true esports... And SC is fucking lightyears ahead of some poor counterstrike.
Comparing CS with footbal ? HAHAHUAHA u 1.6 guys are so arogant. How can cs be "like" football. ROFLMAO.
I loved cs back in days. Now i rly hope that 1.6 comunity will die (15years old kids - which is like 90% of this community) Look at this site. Look at 95% comments on the frontpage. Ur are just ridiculous. This week theres like 5 same threads "CS is dying" "future of cs" "CSGO shit" and u create another one. AND i fucking bet everything what i have that ïn next 2 days there will be another 5 threads where people will be crying about the same thing.
U guys are just so fucking stupid ...

So you're basicly saying that there are no e-sports then?
It's a fact that cs was a huge e-sports title, but for you to even question that starcraft isn't true esport?
What the fuck is e-sport to you? Who can setup a modem the fastest?

Go back to your shitty cadred now, although i know its kinda hard being there when you got absolutely no news to write about in ur long dead shitty source game. cy@
Hahahaha How stupid can you be? You're so mad because some kids.. how sad is that you're always saying shit here? Go out dude, find a girlfriend I don't know.. Saying bullshit about kids here, I prefer to see kids around here that have to be in a community like cadred one, full of nerds nolifers like you.. Get lost.

ohh just shut up with with your every 2 nd day thread..of cs dying or not...gtfo dumbass
esports cannot be like real sports. Only way that is possible if there are limited numbers of games. This requires a limited number of games, no new games must be released, but that is not possible.
Good job :)
You are right.. But it's not that simple.. We would all obviously prefer that CS remained just like it is now. But if it does, it will soon die, and no ones wants it to die.
I didn't read a word and by the title I could understand everything ...
CS 1.6 is still alive and CS:GO is already dead to me cuz it's one of the worst Fps Games made in the history
CS 1.6 is still alive and CS:GO is already dead to me cuz it's one of the worst Fps Games made in the history
It must die :) for them our talent is addiction gamers dnt have any value any more :( sad but true
the only reason CS 1.6 is goin to die is cause the manufacturers are killing it!
Some people just dont get it. Those people who says its dying is a big part when it does.
If everyone keep playing 1.6 I guess IEM and those other big tourments will bring 1.6 back as the main title.

Yeah, CS 1.6 will die someday obviously, I don't know why some people don't accept this.
yep +1. not the end of the world, you can still play with friends for fun.
you do realise that csgo has physics much closer to 1.6 , as opposed to source right? ...everyone is bashing this game based on some 2011 clips but hardly anyone has actually watched the matches played on the esl CM storm cup where f0rest,gtr and xizt ripped through source players like butter..
I dream in Valve and in a Counter-Strike 2.
When CS:GO was announced, Gabe Newell said "Its a good product but it's not a Counter-Strike 2".
I believe in a Counter-Strike 2 100% identical to Counter-strike 1.6 :
- Same Gameplay
- Same textures but with a better quality
Wait some years... Go Valve !

Even though I want nothing more than a game that feels a lot like playing 1.6 coming along, the soccer comparison is really weak. The fundamental idea in games like soccer (get the ball into the net) is so simple that they have stopped evolving and pretty much only have a set of rules to keep the game consistent and fair. You cannot really add to this.
Now, game mechanics and graphics and ideas evolve constantly.
The point of what I wrote above was simply to debunk the little ideas and examples and correlation you had written up.
The cold, hard version of why what you wrote up doesn't even matter is that fps developers have no interest in limiting themselves to the concept of a game from 13 years ago.

Just wanna say, IMO why are players afraid with the dead of CS?
Really, If you spend your time playing the first factor is to play comfortable, don't care about the others.
Step by step, the human is developing everything in the world, so you can't request many years. My time playing CS:1.6 is unforgettable, because there are some players who I learned alot by them, at the same time I learned, I laughed with'em too!
At the moment; CS 1.6 is my favourite FPS game, tactics, heard the steps and the teamplay is unique in this MASTERPIECE!
I just wish that in one way or another the CS will keep ALIVE!
Such a big moments, like the victory of your own team, with your mates, in a international level, attending LAN events or just watching your favourite team winning the most hard match, will remember your experience for all the life... At least for me!

CS is like soccer. Yeah. You're right!
hahahha you said it your self...the football didnt change only the rules so... CS 1.6> CS:S> CS:GO PWNEEEEDDDDDD
CS needs some fresh air, matches between always the same teams on the same maps were getting bored. CS GO with some improvements could be a good choice for competitive gaming on esport scene.
+1, welcome to the sensible hltv users gang....

I hardly would consider Football dying m8, it's still one of the biggest sports in the world if not THE biggest. I don't see CS players getting millions of euros as salary.
actually football is clearly the biggest sport
another topic about cs dying, how shitty cs:go are and stuff.
Bored about it. just BORED.
If u don't like any game just don't play it, whats the problem. Valve needs money from new game, whats the problem. dotA 2 is almost relised, but still there is MANY ppl on dota allstars platform. They don't care about dota2, they just playin a game, which they like. Same be with counter-strike for sure.

NEED DROP !
just played cs:go..terrible game lol, impossible to kill streak without luck(dm wise),the bullets on the wall are almost non visible and the crosshair seems so static..thats the problem
i'd just like to add my 2 cents: none of the alternatives mentioned can or will replace cs 1.6.
if it dies, it will die leaving no offspring. Unless something happens. something like cs 2
and btw OP how is it DYING FAST if the spectators number beat the SC2 specs at ESWC? ...

There are guys that do a lot for streaming in LoL, like Ocelote or those CLG guys, they have more than 10k viewers all day long and you can imagine how many people can be watching their facebook at the same time for example. When a guy like this wears let's say yellow glasses and says on facebook you should buy it, then like 50k people see it at any time.
CS players and their streams were always really boring and inconsistent, they can't stream whole day and be entertaining...

np cspromod>cs:go every single day just chill-out =) like i said before its gonna be cs1.6 vs source all over again but this time we have a graphical boost. Cs:go only has a few grey buildings its like valve almost gave a fuck but then put a grey scheme so they didn't have to do that much color matching. Lazy valve = lazy
