K1CK, paiN, and the Portuguese community

Hi, i decided to make this blog, since my country is being constantly made fun of, due K1CK performance, fans attitude, and a bunch of other stuff. It's a bit long, i'm sorry for that. But i want to explain everything. Feel free to skip something you're not interessed in. At first i'm just going to explain what happened , and in the end i'm going to give my opinion.
CJM Steelseries SummerCup
This all started at CJM Steelseries SummerCup at Portugal, a lan tournament that paiN attended, getting the 3rd place. They lost with K1CK in the mid-finals, 16:05 in de_train and 16:07 de_inferno. After the match, the Brazilians started to complain, since the K1CK demos were never available (so paiN couldn't study them), and on the other hand, paiN's demos were always up 5mins after each match. The Brazilians were claiming that K1CK won because of it, and they knew all paiN's strats.
Interview:
In the meantime, coachi gave one interview to FRAGlider.pt , the interview is quite long, but i'll sum up a few topics.
First, he starts to say he has the 5 best players in Portugal, the best Portuguese line-up he ever had. That they all feel very confident and it's the first time Portugal has a lineup this strong, and at this level. They also mention that for the first time, they have conditions, that will allow to train more and attend more international tournaments.
The interviewer (ERRZyx), asks if this is the time where Portugal can have a good performance international, and coachi answers that he has high expectations to GameGune. Although he always makes promises to nacional tournaments, he never did and i'll never do internationally, since the level is a lot different and everything can happen, a pistol round lost, a missed shot, a headshot that the server didn't register, etc. But it's never a shame to travel there and lose with fnatic virtus.pro etc, because they are great teams and they train a lot. But he stands his position, saying that he has high expectations. He also says a phrase that cause a lot of controversy. People think he said he was going to be TOP3 at Gamegune, but what he said was: "With this team, this 5 players, with the conditions we now have, I think we have all it takes to take a TOP3, to be a world class team, and to beat great teams". Basically, they feel on their best shape, ever.
But this is all about K1CK, themselves and their expectations. What brought this whole thing was the fight between Brazilians and Portuguese people. Because in the interview, when confronted with CJM Steelseries SummerCup, he said that the tournament was way too easy for them (16:03 de_dust2 and 16:10 de_inferno vs NorthernGrade (TOP2 PT)). And coachi took this moment to talk about the demos controversy. He said that the Brazilians were making excuses. "I don't want to discourage them or to be sad, i admire their attitude of coming here and play, but none of us, K1CK, never even saw one demo of paiN. We always thought that the match wouldn't cause much troubles. And in the 2 maps we played, with didn't even used ours strats. They keep talking about anti-strats, and it's just ridiculous." And then, the ultimate phrase: "If we wanted to, if we used ours strats, we could have beaten paiN 16-0". It's even the headline of the interview. That pissed of the Brazilians, a lot.

K1CK was placed in group A, with fnatic, webone, and delta. Fnatic, no need for futher info, with karrigan, friis, xizt, trace and moddii, one of the best, if not the best team atm. Then the poles, a little bit hidden recently, but with great players as ben, dok and others. And Webone, i don't even know them so i won't talk about it.
The first match was against DELTA, the poles, in de_train. Al thought they started winning, K1CK made a great comeback, finishing the half with 8-7 for K1CK. Going into the second half, K1CK easily took the pistol round, but after losing a deco round from delta, the rounds kept coming and the final score was 16-10 for DELTA.
Losing the first match of the game, they were going to face Webone, which they won, 16-2.
With the new system, K1CK would face DELTA again, if they lose, they would be K1CKED out of the tournament. The map was de_train again. And the result almost the same, 16-9 for DELTA, and the Portuguese team left the tournament.
The Portuguese community
Unlike me, the majority of Portuguese people are very proud, very patriots. And it's not just us, in the CS 1.6 community, it's the whole country, about everything, even my grandmother. And that's not exactly a problem, the thing is, they blindly defend everything that's related with Portugal, they don't care if they are right or wrong, or they don't even bother to argue, it's like, PORTUGAL FTW!!! FUCK THE WORLD! So... yeah.
The Brazilian community
The Brazilians are full of passion, and if something is good, they spend their day worshiping it, if it's bad, they give no support at all, and they treat it like garbage. And They are a little bit spoiled, with MIBR's team, that once ruled the world. So they keep expecting it that will happen again.
K1CK performance
K1CK played bad. They were too much confident, and they underestimated the poles. K1CK are not a bad team, not top5 or something like some fanboys claim. But they are a good team, and they have good players, no one expected this performance, not even lurppis. In addiction, K1CK need fox to shine. fox didn't shine, he didn't even played average... he played horribly, like i've never seen before. And this talking about K1CK only, because DELTA played really well (except at the first half of the first map, dn what happened), and dok and ben were amazing.

Don't take me wrong, i'm a big fan, but fox is way overrated, not by the general community, but by the Portuguese community, due the reasons i named before. BUT he is a good player, and a very good awper. fox was made fun of, everyone was looking at him, watching every step, every shot, due the community pressure (FOX>ALL - FOX THE BEST AWPER IN THE WORLD!). And fox played really bad, missed important shots, shots that any awper with a few years of experience wouldn't miss, he even wrote on his facebook "I'm sorry for this big disappointment".
K1CK shouldn't be so confident for GameGune, coachi should try to be more respectful, and the Portuguese shouldn't be so fanboys.
I just feel washed with disappointment like a big tsunami. From K1CK, from fox, from my nation.

the problem it's not k1ck or Portugal, it's just a couple of fanboys that are really annoying. I think that k1ck is a good team and should keep tryin in DreamHack Bucarest, or DH Winter if features 1.6

I agree with most of what you said, but don't blame fox. He didn't play to his standards, and its true k1ck needs him to step up if they want to go further in international competions, but this gamegune performance was not is fault. For example, rmn lost the eco round 1on1 vs delta, the first time they played, due to lack of confidence. I'm talking about that round that he and the delta player were spraying at each other and he jumped trying to run away, if he had confidence and stayed he would have won due to hp difference, he had almost 100 hp if i recall correctly and the delta dude had 17 or 13 hp.
So to sum up, it was an all around bad performance , but if you want to blame individuals, i think you should mention rmn, not saying that he is entirely responsible or that he isn't a good player, because he is a great player, in fact i wouldn't blame individuals like i said, but since you mentioned fox i think you would have been more precise if you mentioned rmn.

Same in romania with TeG. They always say that they have the best lineup, when they change players. But, at international events, have never succeeded to be in top16 (last years). Community also, many fanboys.

i think rmn and mutt were far beyond what they were expected. and imo fox didnt play bad. everyone misses shots thing is..delta was slightly better in all aspects. they will do a good tournament, k1ck lost to a professional team.

yeah forgot to mention that, coachi played really well.
I don't agree with fox playing low than average, I think he played normal, but not as we expected (like our star :P)... Individually I think that mut and rmn were the ones who failed more, maybe because of the nerves, I don't know, but they failed hard, even I could have cover some of their fails really... Anyway, this was a team fail, not individually... And about people blaming coachi, open your eyes, he played fucking great!

K1CK isn't a bad team, i enjoy watching fox play, but i h8 those portuguese fanboys, so annoying -_-

but it's like having a Cristiano Ronaldo or a Messi in the team, they play for him. I can tell you that k1ck would destroy DELTA on d2 cuz k1ck's defense is based around fox aw. And we saw DELTA's d2 against fnatic.
Bad map choice in the last match against DELTA, mUt played really bad, and rmn didn't seem like it was him. Rmn is imo the best aimer in Portugal and in this tournament he didn't show that.
I remember in WCG last year when rmn played in defs, playing against ESC, shooting like 10 singles with deagle on nuke. It was crazy

fox is overrated? the only thing e disagree by far he was 2 times the best awp of gamegune and the best k1cks place was 6th i think, awps like fnatics and navis ones going to finals and playing more maps and fox stills with better K/D ratio

2009 k1ck played against mouz, fnatic and a team from turkey, and he did it well, dont know if in this tournmente he finnish in 1st as best awp but mouz and fnatic are good teams

I assume, I was treating paiN as a garbage, I didn't expect nothing for this GameGune from them, but they rly surprised me winning zNation and doing a decent job against ESC(16x11).

I think no one really questions fox's ability, every player in the circuit knows he's good, I remember a finish team (wings/roccat?) naming everyone with a "j" in the end at the time, it was a fun poke but still, it was acknowledgement.
What people hate is reading about it all the time. Just like Justin Bieber, most people wouldn't mind him if his girl fans weren't all over the place always talking ludicrous stuff. They are just overbearing, as much as the haters, though.
Regarding expectations, when you set the bar that high, when all you read is "k1ck>all", "k1ck will rape", when people TRULY believe that (i always 'trolled' along though) it's hard not to get disapointed and made fun of afterwards (extra points for the hltv.org's average userbase's age).
I like him as a player and always will. He's a nice and chilled guy and not arrogant at all if you met him in person. I remember playing in a lan (net7) in the groupstages against his mix. At the end of the game (as I was the captain) I thanked him for the game and for taking it seriously, he was very shy but thankful at the same time while his teammates were very douchie.

Since defs dropped off, in Portugal, the majority only see k1ck, k1ck, k1ck, and I don't think that is a good thing for e-sports in general were in Portugal.

i agree with most of it, but saying that fox is overrated is just playing stupid, i was one of his haters for years, saying that he isn't that good and shit, but against facts there is no arguments. Most people don't actually know, but fox isn't the same fox of 2 years ago cause he started to work, at least is what i have heard, it's normal that if plays less that he can't play like he used to do.

i understand that it is very hard for brazilian teams to perform internationally... just imagine man, they cant practice PCWS almost never vs good opponents, just when they bootcamp.. imagine that ESC goes with no trainig vs good teams in a tournament... same would happen
Portuguese teams can't pracc even against spanish teams and they are our neihgbors, now imagine the crapy connection we have, we got some new internet here, i haven't played for a year, but i still think that the same ping problem is happening, besides with the economical crise the new internet is to expensive anyway, i bet people as myself that live alone, choose normal and cheaper internet connections over the new one as well
well i rarely comment on these kind of threads, but i have to state something. first of all you are saying that fox is overrated and that it was his fault k1ck didnt make it through. that's a lie, fox played nicely, he didnt shine but he didnt suck. now, if you saw every match you saw a mutt that always frags insanely or at least gives an entry to the team and this time he just didnt kill at all. i think you are trying to apologize for the pt community here at hltv.org, but there is no need to. argentians, brazilians, poles, ucranians and even swedes are like us. the thing is we have, without any doubt, a pt team that could make a huge damage outside due to their aim. they only practice 2/3 weeks before a major tournament because they are always good individually. im not giving any excuses, it is just a reality that their schedule sucks to play counter strike professionally, or at least to be top10 in the world, cuz they sure have a hell of aim to do so. to finish i dont think coachi was that confident as you say since they were losing 6-2 right away, the poles were just better and we have to admit that. in any other day it could be k1ck, even if they didnt lose that eco round in the 1st map it could be k1ck. dont be an "anti-portuguese" or "anti-fanboy" and state the reality. cheers

yeah. I mean, now we should blame fox for K1CK's failure? Well, as I've grown up, I was taught something: Win as a team, lose as a team. Of course there's always one or two players who are better than the others, but the team can't depend on them, they have to got a plan B in case their star player is not in good shape/having a bad day. The lack of international experience by K1CK's team makes them to have no plan B, as most of their strats are around their star player. The huge dependence of fox's awp made K1CK to fail, but it's not his fault. All the team should have a "backup" plan to cover their star player "worse than normal" performance
