Taking matchmaking to the next level.
Taking matchmaking to the next level.
Introduction
Matchmaking is such a nice new feature in CS:GO but there are things that should be updated. Currently the mean of people searching for new games is around 200 while it obviously has the potential to grow exponentially when things are done right. The more people play Matchmaking the more people can be matched to their skill-level in a way that makes the game fun for players from all backgrounds.
1. The 'rematch-option' should be replaced by a 'rematch-with-team-option'.
As all automatchplayers know the chance of a rematch taking place is very close to zero. This fuction is a complete fail. But the idea behind it is a valid one. You had fun, you had a cool team and you want to continue playing the game. Instead of adding every player as a friend and create a lobby afterwards (and have a massive list of friends you will never play with again) there should be an option. Continue playing with same team. If both teams accept this it will automatically be a rematch. If only one side accepts this proposal it will result in a lobby with all 5 players in it. Nice.
2. Maps: cut the crap. Get in line with the scene.
Matchmaking is for the players who want to play CS:GO competively on a chill-out level. The potential for this is really big. It should be a perfect mirror of the developments in the so called pro-scene. So maps that obviously fail to be interesting at a high competitive level should be removed to the 'Casual/Public' section and don't belong in the Competitive matchmaking (Aztec, Vertigo, Dust). New maps picked up by the pro-scene tournaments (some have been around for a looong time) should be incorporated into the system as soon as possible (think of maps like Mirage). The effect this will have is that new players to the game doesn't get spread out too much on strange failed maps from a distance past and it will attract players that want to play the real deal.
In this regard the option to buy 2 flashbangs like the pro's should be added aswell.
3. A match-cooldown for reported cheaters.
Everyone who plays matchmaking knows there are a lot of cheaters around. The painful fact is that the most of them do not even hide it. Valve has to be extremely causious with banning people because jealousy and poor judgement can ofcourse ruin many things. But the problem is too big to be overlooked. A few things should be noted first before I can go into some possible solutions. First of all the problem of 'the buddy' (or as I would like to call him: 'the asslicker'). I've noticed in my 200+games of matchmaking that most of the time cheaters come in pairs. They do this so that their own team won't be able to kick them from the game. This is a huge problem in self-governing from the players needed because of the lack of attention from Valve. The second thing that is important is the amount of players searching. If more players are searching at matchmaking the skill-level of the players would be more equal, therefore eliminating the chance of poor judgement for the most bit. Solutions: A vote for cheating coming from a teammate should be counted as 3 votes. Players who got a lot of votes for cheating and got kicked in that same match by his teammates should also get extra attention. Players with too many votes don't get a ban. They get a competitive match cooldown like when you leave a match mid-game. This could be a good fix before some sort of AI gets invented. This AI could take up A LOT of matches from a skilllevels into a database. And analyse for example a normal reactiontime for a certain situation and calculate the possibily of someone killing 5 enemies 2 seconds after the match starts. But untill that advanced things wich I understand are still far away a match-cooldown will punish those stupid unfair cheaters enough.

Add de_mirage_go to matchmaking and two flashbangs.. how much effort can that take.
cant agree more, need 2 flashes, and adding de_tuscan eventually too
indeed
matchmaking embarrassed, have to update the settings and maps.

yes, and m4 silencer in 2019
HAHHAAHH ;D
Post this on steam forum?
I completely to first two points. First one is great idea, second is kind of obvious, but I don't know why Valve hasn't implemented it yet.
Third one... never seen cheater yet in over 100 games...
Third one... never seen cheater yet in over 100 games...
lucky you then, Its really rare i join a game where there is not a cheater in it.
nice blog & ideas
dont forget the extra flashbang
dont forget the extra flashbang
_se maps will not come. Servers will stay as 64 tick.
valve dont know how to make a good matchmaking system, DotA2 MM is fucking unbalanced and ridiculous...
Couldn't agree more!
And maybe it's just me but when someone talks ingame my sound really gets f*cked up..
And maybe it's just me but when someone talks ingame my sound really gets f*cked up..
And maybe remember that when we choose "microphone mute" in the lobby, it shouldn't activate it for the next match.
Hope you'll understand what i mean. :)

FAC , Fail Anti Cheat
''2. Maps: cut the crap. Get in line with the scene.

Nope, valve doesnt see it like this

valve is blind
100%
play ESEA
Why so many people care about matchmaking ? For me and for many other people, I think, it's better to play some gathers like ESEA or ESL Versus/A-Series/whatever. On that leagues, there isn't some many cheaters, you've got _se maps, 2 flashbangs ... Everything is better.
I tought MM could be changed to a very good gather system, but it's very not likely.
They would need a much better anti-cheat(as good as ESL Wire, ESEA AC, EAC), add 128 tick servers, add mill,mirage,.. And the cooldown system is also really fucked up, there shouldn't be teamkilling possibility like in ESEA,..

ESL WIRE sucks. Atleast it did on source. Faced cheaters almost every VERSUS match.
But yeah, a decent anti-cheat is required.

Well, kinda, there were some cheaters in 1.6, but it's still a lot better than VAC =D
EAC or ESEA AC would be great :D

mirage in matchmake.
plz valve...
plz valve...
The point of MM was to make ESEA etc. unneccesary. Also if MM was as good as ESEA the scene would grow much bigger (new players don't get to ESEA that quick as they go to some in-game playoption). It seems that Valve gives attention to the request of the progamers (i.e. going with them to LAN) but forget the 'youth'. The traininggrounds for people that like the idea of a competitive shooter like CS.
They should add some king of anticheat to match making aswell..fucking tired of aimbotters
and would be nice to see friendlyfire off (0) !
I don't really take matchmaking seriously. Its just making fun with random people on the internet with different pings.
Matchmaking = organized public play = Level of play = Potato
We only play match making when we dont have 5 players. Shitty settings and 64 tick in MM :(
you're totally right. I stopped playing matchmaking because of all the cheaters using aimbot and or spinbot.
Can't believe they don't even slightly hide it.
And i'd like to see _se versions of maps. These standard maps suck ass.

Matchfixing? that is illegal!
OMG, I was going to write the same thing you said on this blog. Did you already share this to the steam community forum?
Valve should really watch this blog, good job!
I just want to add this two topics:
- Valve should convert their 64 tickrate servers to 128 tickrate
- Valve should make a new option (checkbox) on matchmaking menu to play only against teams, and not mixs

well. the amount of cheaters is just going insane. speedhack+aimhack+no care to hide+come in pairs is most common. i have a 160hour competitive match cooldown now. fuck this game, cya im out :')
yes, do something against the cheaters and everything else doesn't matter!!!
