Friends, age and alcohol
2013-03-05 22:48
I'm drunk and spewing out feelings. Feel free to move on.

Play this while you're reading - tinyurl.com/agsa5dl

Its 3:00 in the morning and Iíve just returned after meeting up with a bestest friend of me whom Iíve known since the 7th standard of High School. Iíve known him for the last 12 years out of my 23 years of existence (citing the number of years feels more effective if you also take into account your age.)

For those of you who donít know, I just finished my 2nd semester final exams and am here in Mumbai (India) for holidays and my childhood pal also happens to be working here. Both of us hale from Jaipur which is like a major major tourist destination. Why am I boring you?

Because Iím drunk on just 2 bottles of strong beer and Iím not ashamed to admit that and I HAVE AN AGENDA TO SHARE WITH YOU. Iíve never been this happy drunk or overwhelmed, in the last 1 year of college, even when I was high on an entire bottle of rum (3/4th neat, 1/4th also neat but after sleeping for half an hour) and whatís on my agenda?
To impress upon you - the reader, the importance of friendship, age and alcohol.

What do I remember from a facet of my childhood?
-Bunking my really important 10th standard mock examinations to catch the local city bus with 2 friends (one of whom I mentioned above) and reach the gaming café at sharp 10:00 in the morning and start playing CS1.6 and only those 2 golden maps Ė cs_16fighter and 32_aztecworld.
-Bunking the 12th standard classes because we were seniors.
-Being so obsessed with CS that I had nightmares about it.
-Being a disappointment to my parents then.
-Winning my first CS tournament.
-Not being able to buy a gaming mouse (because parents wouldnít listen to me) and still growing in-game with the use of a small cheap mouse which had disco blue lights flashing on the base of its build.
-And friends and the places where we hungout. Moonlit nights spent drinking beer on the roof of a one storey under construction building in the middle of twenty other under construction sites, while the rest of the city celebrated the festival of Diwali by lighting up the night sky with fire crackers.
-Picking up small amounts of change lying randomly around the house and pooling it together so that we could buy three 300ml glass bottles of Thums Up and a pack of Lays chips.
-Not being able to play as many LAN hours of 1.6 as we wanted to because allocating pocket money to 15 year olds to play computer games wasnít exactly the norm in our family. Our parents werenít poor, it was a conscious decision on their part to not give us too much of money lest we fall to the evils of bad habits.

There was a beautiful struggle in itself to have Ďjust enoughí so that we learned to appreciate the value of available resources.
Iím submerged right now almost on the edge of tears with all the beautiful memories I have of my childhood. Iíll just cut this short by answering 3 questions.

1. Why age?
Because it tells me what was and what is. Because it allows me to measure change by understanding how conditions were before and how they are now. When I was 18 years old I wasnít allowed to go out after 9:00, wasnít allowed to use the internet for more than an hour, was supposed to take a vintage bicycle to my tuitions and not a motorcycle like every other guy (we didnít even have a motorbike). And yet the best part is that NOW I come home as late as the next morning, use the internet for 23hours out of the 24 and travel in a very reputable hatchback.
2. Why friends?
Because the essence of life is sharing its experiences with like-minded individuals whoíve been through the same situations in their own small ways. As children, in our own special ways encouraging each other to score better in exams, to perform better at sports, to be nicer to girls. To acknowledge that someone other than your family cares for you, worries for you and is hurt when youíre hurt.
3. Why alcohol? (according to how I perceive and use alcohol)
Because alcohol gets you high with an OVERWHELMING torrent of satisfaction and helps you in transcending your current fuck ups and think about all the good things that went by and how so many more will happen and the realization that youíre sharing this drink with someone who will be there no matter what, wonít judge you, will take a beating for you, will teach you, will hold you, will correct you, will celebrate life with you.

These set of photos show me 'transcending' after speaking to my childhood friend, being reminded of hope and life from the bright fluorescent street lights on an empty six lane road and the feeling of being blessed.

I personally hate taste of alcohol, but I love the state when I am drunk and everything seems chilled. So I like to get drunk as fast as possible, with ridiculous mixture of different alcohols. Most possibly I would never get drunk without my friends, and without them I would never enjoy being drunk.
But I have to say, I know how to waste myself and have fun without alcohol, all you need is have a group of people that you know well. Oh and another think that I prefer is getting drunk in pubs for example, or at someone's home - I am not fan of those club/disco get-drunk actions for a reasons.
2013-03-06 12:36:30
Goddamn we have the same opinion and behaviour except only that i dont know how to get wasted without alcohol, although I have a good time cracking jokes with my pals and talking about the future ^_^

2013-03-06 13:16:54
Maybe I meant another word, not "wasted" but still having fun even if I am sober. OR WEED

d:-P
2013-03-06 13:28:47
Aha I knew weed would be included in the equation :D I never did weed. But will try doing some when I go back to my hostel.
2013-03-06 13:31:28
Weed is pretty much the same thing as when you get bhang for a few cultural parties that happen..
i mean it should pretty much be almost the same high since it's both THC, difference is one is edible the other is a smoke.
2013-03-06 14:39:43
:O :D Thanks for clearing that up dude.
Been long time. How are you?
2013-03-06 14:47:18
oh i'm good.. been busy with school recently, national exams comming up and whatnot, still trying to get ahold of you on steam.
2013-03-06 16:26:44
My bad on that. I got drunk and removed all friends. Please message me your steam id.
2013-03-06 19:06:01
First try is always the best. Enjoy it no matter what halucination you will have. And chill out during effect, so you will have guaranteed that everything you "see" is just made up by you. So enjoy your first time with friends, in calm and relaxed place

edit. My frist time experience was retarded, I thought I had to puke, I felt wierd thing in my neck like I am about to throw up. But it was all my mind and I did not enjoy it. (No you will not throw up because of weed, unless you have too much)

Got it. Thanks babe :)

"I was 18 years old I wasnít allowed to go out after 9:00" wtf :D ? I was allowed to stay as much as I wan't when i was 14 :D

Call me weirdo, but alcohol can't harm me.Personally i dont like wine for example (I want to puke when I try it), but I find stronger drinks more enjoyable (Vodka, whiskey etc...).
It takes so long for me to get wasted, for example 7 cans of 0.5l beer just to get me tipsy. Usually I don't fool around. I'm even starting to make some scientific/philosophical threads, and after that I just go to sleep and have no headache in the morning. I'm always the one who is taking care of the others, while they're drunk, even when i'm tipsy as well.
Maybe I'm so resistant because I'm drinking every weekend 5 years in a row so far :)

Obviously you haven't tried to get into wine. I'm more of a beer person, but wine is tasty and great - especially alongside good food. Nothing beats a well-prepared steak and few glasses of good red wine. Not big on white wine, but it goes well together with fish.

Moving to France later this year, so I will definitely be picking up the wine habit.
2013-03-13 18:38:44
i hate to be drunk :)
2013-03-06 15:32:34
Srsly. You cant be that tipsy after two beers so you had the time writing all that and feeling proud of yourself. And the worst part is that you actually let the post still be active the day after.

Just my opinion of course.

2013-03-06 16:08:23
I believe the alcohol gave me an excuse to express into words something which I wanted others to know too. I guess as a human its an inherent need to share experiences with others and advise\caution\inform them.
Its the possibility of your life being enlightened in some small way which might pave the way for greater experiences in the future OR wasting 5 minutes of your time.
But you are right in perceiving that there is some selfish motive in writing this blog post.
Cheers :)

If you are 23 and in 2nd year of college, something went wrong down the line. I would suggest you don't spend too much time with alcohol and games

I think you misunderstood the text. I'm pursuing an MBA not graduation ^_^
