Today is Monday, the 22nd of April 2013 and I guess now is a good a time as any to get something done about my weight.

The truth is that I have a fairly unhealthy relationship with food. I am not one of those people cursed with a low metabolism or anything, I just simply love cooking and eating food, and I tend to get a little carried away.

When Albert and I started out Pugcast some months ago I actually made a decision that I would need to lose weight for a good number of reasons. First of all it generally sucks being fat, finding clothes, going to the beach or in a pool always feels wrong, and feeling wrong is a stupid way to live your life. I guess most people who are overweight know why they are, and know what it would take to change, but actually making that change is for some reason more difficult than it seems. I too know what it is I need to do, eat less, exercise more.

But there is also another reason why I want to get more healthy, which has to do with casting and E-sports. I trust that one day my phone will ring and its Gabe Newell on the other end asking me to be part of a casting team for the CS:GO international, and on that day, I want to be able to go on stage and feel great. Nobody really wants to watch a caster on camera who doesn't look comfortable there.

There is also the fact that E-sports in general has a continuous battle on its hands to distance itself from the less attractive image of the pale and unhealthy person who never sees sunlight and lives off cheetos. Alright that might be a slight exaggeration, but I am sure you know where I am going with this. A life involved with E-sports shouldn't be synonymous with an unhealthy lifestyle, so I want to do my part in setting an example.

Most importantly though, I want to be the one pasha is flirting with at LAN events:

Seriously though, here is the deal, in two months I will announce how much weight I've managed to lose in that time, and you all will have to try and guess what that number is. I will see if I can't find something to give away to one or several of the winners too.

Of course anyone who wants to join me on this is more than welcome, let the fun begin !

I'm looking forward to see your results in 2 months. I'm in the same boat as you, though not as much overweight as you (seen on the stream - this is not intended to be a personal attack or harassment).

So yeah, I'm looking forward to what your result will be, and how you lost the weight (which program etc., as you didn't mention it). It really takes some motivation to keep going with the work out and less eating.

No offense taken at all, I wouldn't have made this post if I didn't want to talk about it =)

What I will probably do the most is using my punching bag, I used to do boxing, and riding my bike. Not really a program as such, but they are things I enjoy doing, and I think that is a good kind of motivation.

That's great. I'm riding my racing cycle during spring/summer to keep my form and lose weight. My goal is to have an avg. kilometer amount of like 50km. each ride. Also going to the gym 2-3 times a week which surely helps as well.

I also gained a bit of a chubby belly, with some support of my girlfriend I joined her in her martial arts training. After running 6 laps with 20 KG dumbbells and doing 100 sit ups and pushups and throwing up two times, I am on my way! We can all do this with a bit of motivation.

GL!, I also started going to the gym last monday, started a diet, not to loose weight, but to gain some and become like pasha xD(i am a bit skinny).

I started with 59kg at 170cm and I was super skinny. I still am but I'm at 64kg now. Started working out in last october.

Just eat more.

uff thats low kgs :D im 170 and i have 65 (used to have like 60 before i stopped training). btw how can i diet helps you get kgs? i always thought diet are only for loosing kgs and that if you want to get them you should just eat a lot of unhealthy food :D

With diet i meant control what i'm eating. I want to gain weight, but also become more lean muscular, which is hardly achieved by eating junk food :D

You can still eat more and exercise. The goal is not to eat less but to consume less calories. You can spend your 2000 calories eating a few puddings or you can have 10 healthy salads and still reach less than 1000 calories. Eat healthy and keep a track of what you consume and exercise. Do a bit of cardio probably interval training and build muscle so the fat does not get back to you when you're on a holiday or just lying about. Good luck!

I think technically you are right, but the amount I was eating is nowhere near 2000 calories, maybe more like 8k. I guess that is technically still possible to exercise off, but I do need time for casting too :D

Hm no, there is not? Just think about it. If you eat a burger from McDonalds, do you think there is only stuff in there that is total garbage for your body? No it's not. You need the things that are in there. It's obviously unhealthy to eat fast food 3 times a day every day but yeah eating ONLY tomatoes wouldn't be good either. It's just a matter of dosing.

Well, there's good and bad both carbohydrates, fat and even proteins, so essentially there's very much "good" and "bad" or "healthy" and "unhealthy" food.

So sorry for the first reply, couldn't help myself ;)

And you could very well go without what's in a hamburger, sugary drinks or saturated fat like butter and cream. Most just choose not to, by spending money on e.g. soft drinks instead of vegetables. But aye, you very much need a bit of everything - just not the "bad" kinds of everything ;)

If you e.g. go for a bit more protein than general (higher satiety), skip sugary fluids entirely (dat bad, bad sugar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detail.. ) and go for primarily a high fiber content with vegetables, potatoes, pasta, rice, etc. as carbohydrates and not sugar and then you're on the right path, so to say, where exercise will contribute mainly due to physical fitness and condition and not very much due to actual burning of calories (which is what the food/diet in itself should take care of the main part of).

Btw., best of luck to Anders! Should we try to guess the weight loss now or in two months? :)

Good Luck Anders!You should try Atkins /other similar low-carbohydrate diets. When done right you don't even need to exercise and you can eat well, yet still losing fat. But exercise obviously highly recommended still :D

actually its your own choice, either you live like you live now (embarrassed about your overweight and its normal, everyone would be) or you change (change may take up to 6 months but not more if you try hard) and have a life you wanted for the rest of your life. 6 months of your life (basically nothing + you are still doing everything you want meanwhile except less eating ;D) is all it takes to be happier in the future. so to all overweighted people...just start now, if you dont find the time now its unlikely you will find it when you will be older (+ less motivation when youre older). im just interested in why you eat that much? cuz youre hungry or hello i can eat now so i will (dont understand cuz i have never really been overweight)?

This is actually a pretty good question. I think for me its probably a terrible habbit that has developed over time. I love cooking food and I am pretty good at it, and before I started casting it was already around maybe midday 12:00 / 13:00 a'clock on a given day, I would start thinking about what I could make for dinner later. I think part of the reason I am already doing fairly well is because I now spend my time thinking about casting CS:GO and just generally have less room to worry about food. There is also another reason that I will get into in a later blog post =)

Just cook with less fat and whatnot. You have to have a deficit which is obvious. Maybe 400 kalories deficit every day. Sign up at a gym and go there every 2nd day (3-4 times a week) and it's fine. Don't try to cardio off your kalories. If the gym tells you to do cardio, leave the gym. Eat better instead and do weight lifting. And please, don't do stuff that CPV1 wrote down there nor anything else which is like starving. You still can eat tons of fruits and veggies every day just have your deficit and you will loose weight. Drink 3 liters of water every day. WATER!
Try to eat things with lots of protein. Simple as that.

edit: Since it's getting warmer, go swimming a lot if you feel to. It burns tons of kalories but still do you workout. :)

Wake up with only one thought: “Today, I'll do more and better to reach my target”.

Actually after I had written this blog post I went outside to start out, and it was raining. But I decided to just ignore it and got off some decent exercise, I guess in 2 months we will know for sure if I have what it takes to stick with it =)

1. Get an adderall prescription.
2. Take up smoking.
3. Drink small cups of black coffee throughout the day.
4. Take one shot of wheatgrass juice a day.
5. If you ever feel weak or de-energised take a maximum dose of vitamin B.
6. Take aspirin and caffeine tablets to speed things up if needed.
7. Don't eat or drink anything other than what I have listed above.
8. Sleep as little as possible.

It works for me.

These are all techniques used by models and anorexics to stay skinny. I'm pretty sure they know about this better than anyone.

I think Anders doesn't want to get as skinny as ill people and models, but just get in good shape. These are two quite different things. Also he said he loves food, which he still can eat when losing weight.

Anyway Anders, I love your shows together with Albert and for me it doesn't matter how you look like (I think it wasn't that bad), but I do support you in doing this. I wish you best of luck in losing weight, I know it can be a tough quest.

One little advice is to get a pull-up bar in your doorway, and pull yourself up everytime you're near. In the end, together with some good excercise and food, you'll look like pasha.

gl Anders, i have always been training and keeping in shape, like regulary going to the gym 3-5 times a week to push weighs and aswell between i do skiing in the winter and riding my racing cycle in the summer (some running aswell), so keeping your body healty and in shape is for me a must.

i realy hope u reach your goal and then let the training be a natural part of your life in the future aswell.

So get alot of knowledge about the matter, the web, the gym, friends or whatever and do it the best way it fits for u! GL ;D

Part of that is probably true, but I am not sure I would ever feel 100% comfortable if I don't lose some weight. Whether or not that is because of myself or because of other people I honestly dont know, maybe both?

my pro tips is from weigth cut tools used in my gym before figths, its to elevate metabolism to sky levels, every day before breakfast, run some really short intence interval sprints, it kills the excess fat and even the muscle if you dont eat properly

Anders, should we try to guess now then or in two months?

Anyway, best of luck with all of it. Do yourself a favour though by not losing the weight too fast. If you're in doubt get your personal doctor to refer you to a clinical dietician. They know their stuff very well in DK, and otherwise I'll be happy to try and answer any questions (e.g. in regard to not losing too much weight too fast and so forth).

Even if i wasnt really overweight,working out was a problem in general for me.

I can most definitely suggest you that program called "Insanity" if you have a few hours 6 days a week to spare.

You dont really need anything,except some towels,water,will to be pushed to your limits.

I love your casting work on NipTV,and it's always a good idea to get a better body.Keep up great work.

good luck dude, when i was playing css professionally, i decided it was time to quit, lost weight, started cs again put it back on - but then about a year ago now, i started training properly and eating properly (watching my calories/macros - i still; eat what i want, it isn't what you eat its how much).

gone from 91kg to 68kgish in about 10 months it took, purely from weight training and hitting my correct macros, its easier than you think :)
