Troubles with input lag in CS:GO?
2013-05-05 21:31
Are you having troubles with your mouse? Do you feel like your mouse is unresponsive?

Well it might just be a simple graphics card setting that is ruining your gameplay experience!

Only follow this guide if you have capable hardware that can run CS:GO properly. Changing this setting may bring a small performance hit. On weaker PCs this may seem a large performance hit.

NVIDIA has this setting called ‘maximum pre-rendered frames’. If available, this option - previously known as 'Max Frames to Render Ahead' - controls the number of frames the CPU prepares in advanced of being rendered by the GPU. The default value is 3 - higher values tend to result in smoother but more laggy gameplay, while lower values can help reduce mouse and keyboard lag.

How do you change this setting when you have an NVIDIA card?

(I am aware this is a misleading picture, do NOT PUT VSYNC ON. VSYNC should be OFF.)

1. Open up the NVIDIA control panel and select Manage 3D settings.
2. Select the Program settings tab. We do not want to change the default value for every application, we only want to do this for CS:GO.
3. Choose Counter-Strike:Global Offensive in the dropdown list. (If CS:GO is not there, add it and search for the csgo.exe in your steam folder.)
4. Set Maximum pre-rendered frames 0 or 1. (Newer NVIDIA drivers do not have the 0 setting, don’t worry, just put it on 1.)
5. Play CS:GO and feel the difference.

How do you change this setting when you have an AMD card?

For some reason the AMD Catalyst developers decided to hide flip queue size in their control panel. You will need a separate program to change the setting. Programs such as RadeonPro or ATI Tray Tools are able to do this. I recommend RadeonPro as ATI tray tools is outdated and does not work well with the latest Catalyst drivers.

1. Download (www.radeonpro.info/downloading/ for windows 7 and 8)
(download.radeonpro.info/RadeonPro_RC1.exe = for windows XP) and run the setup.
2. Launch RadeonPro and open it.
3. Press the + icon (www.hltv.org/?pageid=154&galleryid=5620&pictureid=25792) and look for csgo.exe in your steam/steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive folder.

4. Select the csgo.exe profile at left-hand side.
5. Go to the Advanced tab. Select Flip Queue Size and set it to 0.

6. Go to the Launcher tab and select Steam/impulse/Origin.

7. Press the settings icon (www.hltv.org/?pageid=154&galleryid=5620&pictureid=25796) and tick 'Start with Windows'. Press close and close RadeonPro. RadeonPro is now running in the background.
8. Play CS:GO and feel the difference.

@mods, the reason why I included the gallery links is because the images get a certain fixed width & height. It was kind of stupid to use the gallerypic= function to show an icon.
i have an error 'this windows requires windows nt version 6.0.6001 or later'

I take it you are using Windows XP?
Try this download: http://download.radeonpro.info/RadeonPro_RC1.exe
2013-05-05 22:44:50
and what about this?
7. Press the settings icon (www.hltv.org/?pageid=154&galleryid=5620&pictureid=25796) and tick 'Start with Windows'. Press close and close RadeonPro. RadeonPro is now running in the background.

2013-05-05 22:46:19
Thanks man! I was looking how to fix that mouse problem :)
2013-05-05 23:21:43
I shall try it and post my results here.

can i change some stuff like that in
AMD VISION Engine control ?

i have
AMD Radeon HD 6570 2GB DDR3

:)
2013-05-06 00:04:30
It'll work.
2013-05-06 00:31:06
It's a nice trick. Been using it for years. In some games it can make your fps much lower.
2013-05-06 00:06:16
Hence my disclaimer at the top ;)

I actually recommend doing this only for 'competitive' games. It would be kind of useless to do this for casual games where you don't even need the advantage of less input lag.
2013-05-06 00:33:26
i have my very old nvidia driver for my gpu so i can select pre-rendered frames to 8 :D:D(new one forces 4 as max)
2013-05-06 00:26:46
Yeah but that's not the idea here is it? We want to lower the value here :D
2013-05-06 00:31:31
And what do i use for the other 'manage 3d settings' for nvidea?
2013-05-06 01:09:26
Leave the rest default.

please set your frame delay to 1 instead of 0. 0 = defaults = 3.

got a source? Haven't read something like that before.

should i change the vertical sync to "ON" in nvidia control panel(only for cs:go)?
2013-05-06 14:39:53
vertical sync OFF
2013-05-06 15:47:42
You want to put vertical sync off in CS:GO and CS 1.6. Otherwise you won't be able to reach more FPS than your refreshrate (Hz) is set at.
2013-05-06 16:22:31
does it really help ?
2013-05-06 15:47:08
Some people notice the difference, other don't.
It most definitely removes a certain amount of input lag, but some people simply aren't bothered by it.

No clue just saying i had nothing to change there since it was already off by default for all applications/games. It wasnt really off just set to let the application to decide what to use.

felt tons of input lag as well so i did some research and had it fixed. good that you took the time to write everything down to share it on hltv!
2013-05-08 15:14:49
Can't believe this actually fixed it - any idea what caused my game to suddenly start lagging in the first place?
2013-08-21 23:45:56
Thank you! I love you! :D
