obviosuly fnatic.f0rest during at his prime 2006-2009. He is still good in SK but you do not peak twice in your life time.
NEO however.. He has been on top every since 2006, Player of the year in 2007 and 2011. I don't know if there are any difference between nowedays ESC.NEO and the old PGS.NEO. He is just as good today as he was before. It feels so, simple amazing and probably the most consistent player to embrace the game. Arguebly the greatest.. I still believe he has reached his prime because back then, he was the most dominant solo player. Playing like 1 man army.
As for trace I believe he was reaching his peak, his full potential from last year till mTw decided to shutdown the cs 1.6 devision. Now he has been droped by SK and I don't know how much we will see from him now on but I guess he had his prime in mTw.
There are and have been many good all-around players and I rate(in no partically order) trace, neo, Sunde, walle, cogu and markeloff as the most complete counter-strike 1.6 players ever. f0rest would have been on my list but due to his not effective Awp. I cannot pick him cause he hasn't been dominant with that weapon. I imagine how good he would be if he had Delpans reflexes with the big green gun.

I think NEO was even better in PGS times, simple because the PGS team had only NEO as madfragger, taz was IGL, kuben and loord smth like supports and luq awp(he wasn't even in top5 in the world, just decent like pasha with awp) so PGS was only NEO, he was winning the games even by himself
but now when taz is madfragger and pasha too(he is better with rifles than awp imo) he is good to but very often unstable and they still winning some hard games, taz and pasha really stepped up their game, taz as rifles since PGS times, so much, pasha since he joined FX and step up on professional level, he learnt so much, he is other player right now, he's not playing like in FFA(in 2009 in some team he was playing a bit like that) but in team, kuben calling them great strats all the time and they know what they should do and why.

but when NEO died it was higher chance for opponents to win the round (they knew that neo died so it could be our round) I don't think taz was low, he was very good but at least lvl under NEO back in the days, now he is sometimes even better than Filip

NEO was definately their best player there is no doubt about it. But also the other PGS members are all underrated and in that sense NEO is overrated. Still the best player in CS history.

yeah you are right. kuben and loord were amazing at PGS time as well (I mean much better than nowadays) taz back in the days was IGL so he didn't frag to much but still pretty well, LUq just decent, some time weak, some time great
and btw. not the best player but one of the best, he is not the best :P

I guess everyone had their peaks back in the days more often in single games because they relied a lot on individual skill. Good example is also fnatic in 2009. Na´vi in 2010 destroyed everyone with their antitactics :p

Fnatic had brilliant team. Gux, GeT_Right and dsn were also able to frag a lot. And they're a team of the year 2009, the most dominant one in that year. You can't say f0rest has had less players. Go watch some matches of fnatic'09 and look how everybody was fragging.

In SK interview also neo answered question why he doesnt pull that high numbers as in the past and he said that todays game require him to throw more nades and dont risk that much.
So the game and tactics evolved and today its more important to play as team than as individual.

they're still insane players, maybe just a tad less sharp or explosive than in the past. or competition (especially gtr trace and moddi, the ukranians)just got better and some even to the same level, which doesn't allow them to stand out that much
