Connectivity and download issues in hostel
I just got into a college and I can use the Internet for browsing and direct downloads but Steam refuses to start. Same with torrents. Is there any way or magic trick to bypass this bulshit that the college has obviously put. I NEED MY DOWNLOADS AND MY CS. Plz help :'(

Try ultra surf, it worked perfect when I was in college.

Not very sure, but I was never caught or you can say they never chased me.

who cares, there are so many people in there, y should they check everyone.

maybe concerning some illegal download sites, but you can switch your ip etc. so you do not have to worry about anything.

and actually they should not have the right to block you sites

they provide the internet connection, they are entitled to create a user policy.

Please don't be naive and just take the words of people guessing.

Yes it is 100% possible and (most likely) that your university can track it (if they care enough). This is especially likely if you log into the computer using your "uni ID" or something similar.

If you want to risk your Uni career downloading illegal copyright data (movies/music/etc) that is your choice.

They are soaking us dry for each penny. I think allowing us to download movies should be the least of their concerns :\ Not only movies but important soft wares which are too expensive for a student to buy around here. Have you seen the cost of Adobe's products? :(

the problem is, because they are a 'big company' if they get caught by adobe or microsoft the fines would be in the millions of dollars.

So they need to show these big companies they are at least trying to stop it.

PS, adobe is cheap now if u get on the plan thing.

If things like steam won't connect then they have probably either blocked the ports or the program. They WON'T unblock these and if you get around it, they can trace you, easily.

As Gomez says, you do risk your uni career but only as far as never being allowed the internet to your room. (As far as I'm aware)
