2012-06-18 02:03:56
we get your point but dude you suck at LoL and if you think that in portugal you can be more sucessful playing LoL than 1.6 ..
2012-06-18 02:59:23
But LoL players are some stupid nerds that don't have nothing to do...
2012-06-18 03:04:00
You're stupid, you insulted some people only because they are playing more popular game than cs... ignorant
2012-06-18 17:44:18
yes but this stream was late in swedish and still 10K viewers,if i remember right on the last IEM there were 50k viewers on the official stream and more on HLTVs
2012-06-18 05:38:05
50k? LOL gets 200k+ easy on an official tournament stream

2012-06-18 09:16:44
10k is still a lot less than there used to be when big teams like fnatic and sk played, no matter the size of the tournament. it actually proves the point that cs is dying.
Note I (and you) said 'dying' not 'dead'
Note I (and you) said 'dying' not 'dead'
2012-06-18 00:20:58
A big reason is that there was only one stream (no hltv) and it was only in Swedish. I believe it would have been a lot more with HLTV and / or an English stream.
2012-06-18 00:52:59
10k people on swedish which noone but the swedes understand for a swedish national event, that's amazing in any year.. don't know where were you for the past 10 years, but the 2003 CPL finals had less viewers than last year's ESWC final, cs is not dying, its just stupid sponors trying to force it to die, but it won't...

your point is invalid since cs existed for at least 10 years sooooooooooo
2012-06-18 03:00:04
Your argument is false, cs EXISTED 10 years but doesnt exist ANYMORE. However, League of Legends EXISTS now and is the BIGGEST game.
So my point is that, doesn't matter how old it is, doesnt change the fact that cs is basicly dead, and LoL isn't :-(

I just checked the news section, DH final was played today.
2012-06-18 16:38:38
They also closed 2 major tournaments for cs
2012-06-18 16:39:22
Which one?
2012-06-18 16:40:24
what is happening with cs is coz its 10-12 years old game
LoL wont even last for 5 years from now
LoL wont even last for 5 years from now
2012-06-18 17:20:29
That is a silly prediction.
LoL has a constant viewing base of like 5x more viewers than CS ever had at a constant level(through out every tournament). It's on its 3rd year and what has it done? It has just grew bigger bigger and bigger.
You see, there's a company called Riot which listens to the community and what LoL players have to say, and they constantly improve the game with every patch. Something which valve never did after 1.6, so I think, from 5 years, LoL will be even more bigger and nowhere near from dying, just because Riot cares for their players and their game unlike valve, which cares for their sales turnover.

1.When cs started there werent any streams or this much coverage, whereas LoL started these years where there are x number of ways to promote the game
2.CS also grew bigger bigger and bigger in its first few years, but now its not like events organisers/sponsors are dropping this game because people/pros arent playing this game before, its actually people/pros are leaving because events are dropping this game as they have new and better games to invest, U can still see the number of people that play cs in steam which doesnt include non steam
3.Valve also was listening to community for sometime but later instead of upgrading patches for the same game again and again valve made it completely new with condition zero and source and CS:GO,ofc they failed miserably
People always want something new and better, when they got something new and better to cs they moved on.
Maybe 5-10 years from now when there will be more better games than LoL,people will move on
Another example for this is Dota, people have moved on to Dota2

WCG is not confirmed and IEM is likely to keep having 1.6 tournaments in Europe. At best, nothing will really change from last year.
Even though some of what you say makes a lot of sense, I think it's just a bit too early to go out and say that 1.6 is not esports, since it easily is by definition.

Quake actually having lower viewers than Counter-Strike. Huh, we are still in TOP3. Party rocking!
2012-06-18 02:02:17
Sadly it doesn't seem so. Dota 2 groupstage had roughly 20k I think. Despite being a Dota player, I actually enjoy watching cs 1.6 the most of any esports and it pains me to see a terrible game like LoL, with a retard community winning.

10k because its SWE stream :D
2012-06-18 01:14:19
10k is a laughable number as an eSport title, people shouldn't celebrate numbers like this, instead they should look for what's missing in those streams so they can attract more people.
2012-06-18 01:23:16
what's missing is they decided to make it swedish?! FOr what reason?..
2012-06-18 01:39:19
It was the swedish championship did you not understand that?
2012-06-18 03:02:59
I still don't fully get this argument..
The two of them are able to speak English fluently so, what's the problem?
Or can't people across the globe enjoy this Swedish Championship?

2012-06-18 03:08:09
there's something special about CS though, the game is best watched using HLTV and we don't have a streaming community, something LoL and SC2 got.
2012-06-18 05:20:00
I don't know about SC2, but LoL has a stream window when you log in (whenever there is a tournament going on). I doubt all of those spectators tend to play competitively (I might be wrong as well). My point is, if there was some stream link or window whenever you log in on steam, we would've had more spectators for sure.
2012-06-18 06:28:33
Valve needs to learn from Riot if they wanna make CS:GO a great game.

Of course not, but Valve has no idea about improving their game from feedback, cause if they [& Hidden Path Entertainment] had, the game would have been finished or almost finished by now, and from what I've seen, this game requires lots of patches to be playable on a competitive level.
2012-06-18 01:37:38
10k people isn´t really that much, CS is dying.
2012-06-18 01:40:30
Valve would be smart to support cs 1.6, but they've turned from that path a long time ago and they don't look like changing their minds.. They're more fond of making more bad games with the name counter-strike in front of them and selling them. Its all about $, same thing is happening to blizzard because of their merge with activision, money and milking the franchise are way more imporant to those dicks than good games..
2012-06-18 01:41:27
Ofcourse it is about money. Valve is a company..and companies do what? They are made to make money.
2012-06-18 01:53:43
Do you think that DotA or LoL will have the same number of spectators after 12years? Please..
2012-06-18 01:41:58
Tbh that's not the point really. We're in the present..
You can't expect sponsors to keep sponsoring CS because LoL might not be around during the next 12 years ..
You can't expect sponsors to keep sponsoring CS because LoL might not be around during the next 12 years ..
2012-06-18 03:10:06
FYI DotA exists since 2002. Actually even before 2002 but that was mod for SC1, without leveling and items. But in 2002 was released DotA mod for WC3 which was very similar to today's DotA except that it was very imbalanced (same as CS beta 13 years ago with zoom on M4, that stupid aligning when strafing and similar stuff)
2012-06-18 15:43:22
Over 10k. Cmoon boys, League Of Legends streamers like Unprofessional Dyrus and Ragelote getting over 15k watchers DAILY on their stream. When again LoL matches are having almost 100k viewers and IEM final did have 190k if I remember correctly.
Maybe CS ain't dead, but it is in bad shape against that kind of viewers. And I believe that now when major tournaments dropped out CS, it becomes like COD4, CS:S. Low money, only few organisations supporting it and don't have over 10 000euro prizemoney in any event.

Believe me 10k is nothing.

2012-06-18 02:00:06
CS is still alive but not as strong as it once was. CPL used to get 30-60k per hltv....
2012-06-18 02:02:23
10k people during the great game of SK and fnatic, it's ridiculous low number in my opinion. This is like a Gran Derbi between the best swedish teams, and it should have a lot of viewers especially in Grand Final.
I wasn't really here on HLTV for a long time, but when I entered here I saw that events drops CS from game lists. For now I can just say, enjoy guys the last comepetitive year of counter strike 1.6, I personally lost interest in this game for like 2 months now, and seriously life goes on.
I'm waiting for CS:GO to come out, and then we can see if it will be a big hit, or a flop by Valve.
Cheers.

cs will die cause sponsors and tournaments want, but no all games and sports have the same repercusion. example fotball, basket, beisbol, golf, tennis. and all games are amazing.
u are comparation with 3 new games, where the owners make a big marketing.... cs 1.6 is forgoten from valve about 6 years ago....
