Cities in USA
Hey guys, this time I'm going to get some work experience and improve my English in USA. So I have got an ability to choose between this cities : Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, Denver, Philadelphia. So I wanna ask you which one should I choose? I'm searching for a city with easy job placement. Also what's about renting room/apartment price? Thank you.

Oh, I forgot Chicago, hehe. I just asked my friend who had lived in USA for 5 years and he recommended me those cities. But another good variants are also welcome :) Yeah I'm pretty interested in winter sports especially in hockey, so you meant that Colorado Avelanche is the best? :) Or you were hinting about the skiing or snowboarding?

Well you'll find hockey pretty much everywhere. Allthough playing hockey is much more popular in Denver than LA, for example.
Also yea I was hinting about the skiing which of course is amazing in Colorado.

I've lived in Atlanta, GA and would absolutely recommend it. Allthough it was 15 years ago so what i know might not be up to date :p

I cant really understand why all of u advise him to go to L.A or Seattle. Have you ever been there ? Do you have any idea how much the rent for the apartment gonna cost ? He is an student and I guess he doesnt have tons of money. If I had been you I'd have rather chosen some small city.

I would recommend you to live in a small city, not too far from the city you would work in, you would be able to save some money, even if you'd have to pay the travel to your job

Seattle - never been, but I heard it rains a lot. Don't know much about living expenses but it is definitively cheaper than LA or NYC.

Los Angeles - worst traffic in the USA. Lots of crime. Overrated city imo. Expensive to live. Decent food, but overpriced.

New York - best place to find a job hands down. Best food. Expensive to live, but justified considering how much you have access to. Also being Russian you might fit in best here (lots of Russians in Brooklyn).

Denver - never been. But this would probably be not ideal to find a job imo. Plus very bad fires in the midwest now (like every summer)

Philadelphia - nice city but high crime rate. Good food. Living expenses probably moderate.

I would go east coast with NY or Philly but that's just me. L.A is a shithole. Seattle is nice I heard. Denver I can't really say.

I'd choose San Francisco over Los Angeles. Los Angeles seems like the London of America, glamerous in eyes of tourists but in fact a shithole.

Out of all those I guess I'd go for New York.

I've been in several places in the US, including LA and NY. I must say I've never seen any worse traffic than in the heart of Manhattan.

LA and NY worst places to pick (for example a pack of cigarettes cost $12 while in another state $6, same goes for houses etc, also hard to find job in NY). Try in Philadelphia or Denver. If u get bored you can always buy a ticket to airplane and then get some vacation in other state.. so i would pick the cheaper state, start living there and then move to somewhere else.

Same with most really popular places in the US I'd guess. I've been to Manhattan once, and it was an incredible experience seeing what I've seen in the TV so many times, now in real life. But I would definitely not live there. Way too crowded.

If I'd like to spend a few months maybe even a year, what are the cheapest prices in hostels (I assume are the cheapest way to rent a room). I just need a bed, somewhere to cook and to shower, preferably near the China Town area.

Would really appreciate an answer.

Well.. It's kindve hard to say. I live here I've never actually been to a hostel. I don't even know of any of the top of my head.

After a quick Google search on hostels in Vegas most of the ones I saw were $9 to 12.

Yes only buses and a small shuttle around the strip. The bus wait time on average is around 25-45 minutes so public trasportation can be difficult but it gets the job done. You'll have fun while your here but the key is not staying to long. Starts to look pretty dull after a short time.

LA is easily the most costly place on your list. For living, anyway. Very pricey. Seattle isn't cheap either but cheaper. It's very beautiful and rains more times than not.

New York isn't far behind but I'd say you would have a much higher chance to find an opportunity there. Crime rate isn't great but better than LA.

Denver is quite beautiful the price is moderate but a lot less opportunity then both the above. Location is key to finding what you want in a career I'd say. Depending on how you want to live.

Philly is decent moderate prices I'd assume, somewhat high crime rate once again. But I think you'd feel secure enough. It also puts you pretty close to new York if you change your mind on a living arrangement.

West coast may be the best coast. But I say stick with the east on this one. LA's traffic is a HUGE factor in this summary as well. It's the most absurd thing you'll ever see in your entire life.

Haha. You might indeed. I'd say if you went to Denver or Philly you could probably stash some money. But the real question on my mind is what will your means of transportation be? A car you own? A bus? Train? Renting a car?

Well if it's subway, bus, or train. I want to get one thing clear here. Do not go to LA. Takes to long to travel by those means. Seattle is an option still. Philly is still an option of course. Not sure about Denver because it's smaller but it might be off the list. But I'd say new York has by far the fastest means of transportation by bus, train, and subway. Finding a train or subway anywhere else but New York can be very difficult from my understanding. Bus cones every 5 minutes in New York I heard. Just food for thought.

Forget about those cities, you should go to MIAMI, I love that place. I spent some time in Miami Beach 2 years ago, PARTY EVERYDAY BUT MONDAY HAHAHAHA, screw working and english training, PARTY EVERYDAY AND SPEAK SPANISH :D

NY is not bad tho, for 30 dollars u get a 15days (or 1 week, don't remember) subway card and can go anywhere the subway goes anytime. But if u wanna eat there, u gotta learn spanish hahaha mexicans working everywhere.

it's all about LA. after visiting all those (i live in LA)
la's still the best. you have the beach, mountains, desert, it's a variety of destinations to go to (those are terrains, you got the city with many many attractions) . LA isnt all thug like where i grew up. rent is probably better in seattle though; but you can still get something affordable in la county which are cities surrounding LA pretty much; in LA the affordable ones are not that great areas haha.

that's just my opinion.

I lived in Philly six years and must say don't go there. The Main Line to the northwest is ok and there are some other isolated areas that are alright, but most of it is run down. Put it this way: If you live in Philly and don't know the area, you will be mugged more than once.
