Team Handball World-Wide
Do you know this sport at all? What do you think about it? What do you think why this sport isn't more popular over the world? From what I saw and what I heard, Great Britain, country which didn't have handball national team before, really enjoyed in this sport this year in Olympic Games. From other sites such as Twitter and GetGlue where most of the users are Americans I realized that they didn't know about this sport at all, and even they questioned themselves why this sport isn't popular there. btw what do you think who will win this year in OG?
In my city all schools practice handball instead of another sport. Anyway we suck but its fun :D

I enjoy watching it. Have barely followed handball since Bengt Johansson was captain for Sweden though, and since then it has gone downhill.

No fucking way. They've won most of their medals before 2000. ATM the best teams are Croatia/Denmark/France. They're good, but these 3 teams dominate. :]

Yea it's a great sport. I played handball for a couple of years and I really enjoyed it. I quit when I was 14 because I didn't like our coach. A shame really, I sort of regret it to this day.
For viewing I would rate this above most other team sports, it's a very good pace and there is always something happening.

I cheer for spain ofc but I wouldn't mind if Croatia gets the gold cause I just love Ivano Balic, best player in history imo. It would be nice to win a gold medal before retiring.

Yeah he is really good. But actually the swede Magnus "Slangen" Wislander was voted the best player of the 20th century, by IHF.

I know Magnus Wislander, best pivot of all time and so many titles on his hands. During Barça unstopable era, everybody had a lot respect and admiration to him. But I still prefer Balic. As I said it's my opinion.

We played a version of handball in school growing up, and it was probably my favorite activity in my gym class. The rules were different though, no penalty shots, the ball was a little different, but it was the same idea. Handball is a pretty cool sport, I like it. It is a great team game and it is very competitive.
We called it "European Handball" because in New York when you say handball this is what people expect you are talking about -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nmr9EzNgOs NYC handball is also a great game.
I suppose it never really took off in popularity in the America's the same way baseball never really gained popularity in Europe. People know about it but it just isn't popular. All are great sports :)

Well, you can't really compare baseball and handball. Handball is sport which you can play on the basketball field and you just have to put two goals. Furthermore, it has some similarities with basketball and Americans should like it IMO :].

True. I didn't think of that at all, as building a baseball field is very expensive. I was just comparing the sport itself in terms of them mostly being played in certain parts of the world.
I would watch team handball over basketball any day. The NBA lost all my interest after they changed the traveling rule to 2 steps, plus the use of fouls in the game to force a change of possession towards the end is lame. They should change the rules again, it is like it a game of streetball now. Watching Olympic basketball isn't bad though.

No sport except football is big here. Although Handball has many followers. I personally think that handball is gay and retarded.
This is due to the mere fact that this sport is played in a silly school sports hall. For that reason alone I already hate it, but there are other reasons as well. In fuckin' every single attack the referee sees a foul and interrupts the game. Or when it comes to the last minute a team can just keep the ball until the game is over. I mean in football, you can at least take the opponents ball away because he doesn't retain it.

There are rules against keeping the ball in your possession without attacking the goal. And also handball allows much more physical contact than basketball.

I've played handball for 10 years straight, but I dont watch league games, only world cup, europe cup and olympic games. I'd rather play handball than any other team sport, but I enjoy watching football instead.

If that was a UFC fight , then the referee would stop the match ! They played aggressively to stop these croatian beasts ... We could have won easily , but we missed a lot of shots.

Awful game by Croatia, and great by France.Key players such as Cupic and Duvnjak got scared because of past duels against France in which France beat us most of times. Also stupid decisions by Goluza who admitted himself that he should put Balic earlier into the game. It's really stupid to have the best player ever sitting and watching the match while he can play. However France won and GL to them in finals. I'm only sorry because of Balic. These were his last Olympic games and Goluza didn't let him to play when he wanted.

Yep he was doing amazing job. It's not really easy to make Duvnjak not to score even single time in 60 minutes. IMO he was main reason of French victory. This Croatia team is really young, while France have 6-7 player who will retire after this tournament, so believe Croatia will be on top soon.

i can agree with that. also mention swe vs hun. 1 of the most payed player cant score in his national i talk about Nagy L. 1 of the key player cant score against swe. i think it was big mistake to bring him back. However he managed to get 1 good match against Iceland.

arrogant french guys... Croatia had bad day and that's all. We won last time, you won this time and that's all. We've won like 10 goals difference the best teams in this tournaments(Spain, Denmark, Serbia, Hungary). If Omeyer isn't fucking the best goalkeeper in this world you'd be down by 10 goals difference at least. Our goalkeeper didn't have even one defence in 1st half. Not to mention all stupid decisions which Goluza made. He didn't put the best player ever into the game... I wish you good luck in final, but this will be the last tournament which France will win...

Denmark played like shit this tournament, not even close to their normal level.. and Mikkel hansen was a shadow of him self, i think it have alot to do with AGK(he's club) closeing down and all that..witch is really sad, i think they could have won the champions league this year, after adding Kim Andersson and carlos prieto and ofc Frederik Petersen.
