Hi there guy's
Im here to ask how can I increase my computer performance because I think its very low dispite i having some good hardware.
my hardware :
CPU - Intel Q6600 2.4ghz QuadCore
Motherboard - Asus P5KPL-AM
Graphicard - XFX 8800GT
Memory - Kingston 2gb 666hz
Why am i creating this topic ?
Because in counter-strike i have a lot of fps drops sometimes it goes from 100 to 80fps with only one smoke and on a longe range point of the map (e.g yard on de_nuke).
imo my computer should handle cs at 100fps always, what do you think that could help me ( buying new computer is not an option xD )
thanks and sorry for my bad english.

i dont think 8800gt is the problem
something must be related to the quad core processor and hl engine.

if you use windows 7 you will have the problem, go to windows xp, use ccleaner, format pc.....

How is your CPU and GPU temp?
2012-08-13 17:08:15
The only good thing is you CPU.
Buy GPU around 100$ (gt 430 or 440) and 4 gb ram (around 20-30$)

you are the worst troll ever seen.
you know clearly nothing about pc's
Even my P4 single core can run css with low fps maiby but it can run it
my dual core laptop i5 can run css full quality
I am talking about experience and what i dont get with you is that you should read reviews they tell the same what i am telling

P4 doesn't guarantee you 100 fps.
You think RAM, GPU and HDD has nothing to do with fps?
And please, go to cadred, saucer

learn to read i said a P4 can run css but with low fps.
2nd i am comparing to css because its using more ressources.
and you know nothing about Ram gpu etc...
because you are saying his specs are not good enough
his specs arent even that old they are like 4 years ago ?
he is on Core 2duo technology time when you had the 1st 65 nm processor replacing crappy Hyperthreading single and dual core.
his gfx has 512 mb and whas a lower version of 8800gtx
2gig DDr2 ram need to see if its enough depends of his OS
CPU 2.4 ghz yes but its not only that you need to see

hahaahaha.
Gfx has soo much to do with that :x....
/hang yourself
go on xbitslab
tomshardware too learn a bit more how a pc works
your programs will use ram/ hdd/ cpu/
Gfx will be 3d/2d animations etc...
beeing realy basic here.
i am realy sry but you are realy doing like you know something but it clearly isnt.
why did i reply you is because you see alot of people who know nothing about pc's and post bullshit
Or its not that they know nothing but they dont know alot
i dont know alot compared to other ones but i know more then you
we are trying to help someone why does someone needs to post bullshit all the time ?

Well, I forgot to mention his RAM, its not a big deal (for me).
You can't run CSS or 1.6 stable with 100 fps using XFX 8800GT and 2gb RAM (666mhz) if yo are playing online. period

dude you have no idea wtf you're talking about, a 8800gt is far better than a gt440 as seen on this chart:

GT 430 or 440 will be more like a downgrade than an upgrade.both are a lot less powerful than 8800gt.
you sir dont know about gpu(s)

8800gt is too old

and you are so young,so it makes sense,do u know that most of pros used 8800gt or 880gtx?u always argue without having a clue.

I have a HD3870, which is worst than yours, and I don't have FPS drops, NEVER. So you might try reinstalling Windows and cleaning the dust from your PC. Also, you might overclock your CPU, since CS 1.6 needs more CPU than GPU. Add more ram if possible. Before buying new ram, check which kind of ram your motherboard supports (ddr3 or ddr2 probably).

recommended for CS
Recommended: 800 mhz processor, 128mb ram, 32mb+ video card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
you probably have some settings wrong...

dude I playd this game over 10 years ago with
Pentium 3 @ 733Mhz, Riva TnT 2 Ultra and 512MB ram I didnt have 100FPS all the time but dude it dosn't mather, because GoldSrc is a modified version of the Quake 1 engine. And predicted by moore's law computer performance have dubbeld every 18 Month, so lets do some math,
to make it even and easy we say 10 years actually I have been playing for about 11 years but here we go
10x12=120
120/18=6.6 so lets say just to be nice to you that I had 10 fps.
that means the next card would be able to produce about 20 fps and the one after that 40 and the one after that 80 and the one after that 160 and the one after that 320 so he sould be fine and not because of that number but because if i turn on developer 1 on my computer and typ FPS_Max 1000 I get a constant 1000FPS. So either way you want to look at it or do the math backwards your still ending up with that your statement is more invalid then 2+2=662564651654321.

i started with 256 mb RAM, 1.8GHz processor and 64 MB integrated gfx(GMA) and received 50ish max and often 20-30fps. In smoke, it would come down to 10-15 fps.
You must have some kind of gfx card otherwise its impossible to have 100 fps with above config.

thats why i am asking how can i make my pc have a higher performance i have a pc to run always 100fps
2012-08-13 23:00:33
Some time you have a lot of programs running in the background.
Do "ctrl+shift+esc" and tell me how many "processos" is showing.
Because I have a similar computer and I run in 4 smokes and still 100fps!

with such specs your pc should run cs 1.6/ css FINE = 100 fps easy
But If u use windows 7 pls check your ram usage
windows task manager > performance and look at the ram usage
when u play cs tell us how much ram u have left
because windows 7 use's alot of ram ( 1.5gig +)
and you only have 2 gigs

Your hardware IS NOT a problem in here , it should easily handle 100 fps .
Its probably some stupid small thing as always like actualizing windows , some programms opened affecting the game or drivers etc.

ur OS is?
2012-08-14 00:56:34
If you have just formatted your machine then your problem is purely configuration/software and not hardware.
I cba going into loads of detail because I've posted one of these before for someone else who was having issues with their machine. Carry out these tasks (in whatever order) and then check your fps.
Considering you have done a fresh install (if not, then do one):
-update your motherboard to the latest BIOS release.
-go to the manufacturers website and install the latest drivers for your motherboard (Chipset is essential)
-Install the latest drivers for your Graphics Card
go to start>run and type msconfig. Go to the startup tab and untick anything that is not essential (normally you just want your firewall and no other startup items that will be using CPU usage as soon as you log in to windows)
Defrag your hard drive (not essential after a format)
If the above + vanilla install still gives trouble then you might have a driver problem.
Also, how old is your hardware, especially your hard drive?
There are too many factors to consider when trying to troubleshoot these problems which pretty much makes your post pointless.

ok everyone who says your computer is bad are stupid, Its not really a beast but for 1.6 its just fine, what Resolution do you use and do you use Windows XP or 7?
2012-08-14 01:06:27
+1, The resolution. If it's 1024*768 or above, there is a chance that the gfx card can't handle it with smoothness.
2012-08-14 06:53:21
that card can handle full hd you dont have to worry about that
IF he has windows 7 its gonna be his ram because 2gig isnt not enough
he will need to do some tests.
anyways he isnt thre since yesterday so we will need to wait to see what he says

2012-08-14 13:30:07
my 9400gt couldnt...1 smoke n fps down at this res. while at 800*600 n below, all is fine even with 4 smokes....
2012-08-17 20:22:18
it is not your 9400 gt, even a OLD Nvidia 4 mx could run cs 1.6 with maiby sometimes drop but still it could and many times stable and it had only 64 mo ram with Gddr2 ? i think ?
NEW gfx's have more ram Much better ram speed because we are now at GDDR5
when u look at cs time it was Gddr1 or 2 ? dont remember
and they could run cs clean and easy on crappy pc's on pubs
and how much players on the server ? full of plugins ?
when u go local and host urself and play vs bots ? how is it ?

that config i posted was of my old pc, my current config includes 4 gb ddr2 ram, 1 gb 9400gt, 3ghz core2duo...but still in 1024*768 2+ smokes and fps drops...
2012-08-18 19:07:02
that is not normal seriously it should run smooth all the time
you know i need to be honest with you
on my single 3.0ghz with a x1650 pro ati and 2 gig ram it runs better then my new i5-450M with a 5470 ati and 4 gig on windows xp 32 bit
because there is some kind of bug when there are sound effects like HE explosions, quake sounds, server sounds, it makes me sometimes lag even on a war server where you dont have all those amx plugins.
I could run crysis 2 on my laptop when i had w7 64 bit on it.... but cs would have those shit lags so i went to xp
and on xp it lags yet so i guess its compability issus with my hardware, the game is too old i guess, no idea at all...
installed reinstalled sound drivers etc... same for microsoft visual + etc...
not the 1st time i see people with problems after a fresh install :( there should be a list of fixes that could work

i know it's not normal. Something is always fishy when there is 1.6 involved. I haven't tried many high end games since my gfx card won't be any good but 1.6 shows fps drop at res. > 800*600 under 2+ smokes. I somehow couldn't fix it anyway. But i am pretty happy @640*480 <3

OK first all, wow at all the miss-informed people. PC is fine and it will run CS with correct settings.
Things to change:
1. CS only supports one core, so while you have a nice quadcore, CS will only use one. Since you have 4 cores you should put CS on a dedicated core (find steam.exe and hl.exe and right click Set Affinty, and then pick core1 or core2.) This will work better than sharing core0 with the rest of your PC.
2. In the Nvidia Control Panel set the default scaler to "Performance" not "Quality" - This should turn most of the stuff off which you will not need.
try these and report back.

GPU is kinda old + more ram would help, especially for windows 7[must]

format C, reinstall windows, reinstall CS, you now have 100 fps constantly
