vilden interview (EYE 03-04, NiP 05, SK.swe back-to-back 2005)
I've published a lengthy text interview with Christian "vilden" Lidström, the only player to ever play in four consecutive American CPL finals. A three time CPL champion vilden was a member of teams like EYE, NiP and SK.swe. He was best known as an AWPer and in-game.

Some of the topics we discuss:
-Why EYE were the only team who could match up with the unbeatable SK 2003.
-The story behind how EYE managed to win CPL Summer 2004 undefeated with a stand-in joining only weeks prior.
-Who wanted vilden in and out of NiP in early 2005.
-The back-to-back CPL winning SK.swe team of 2005
-The decline of SK over 2006.
-Team-mates like Hyper, archie, sNajdan and Bullen.

On facing the unbeatable SK:

"SK was undoubtedly the best team in Sweden during this time, they were better than us. But at the same time I remember how annoying it was having a feeling of giving away so many rounds due to the respect we had for them. You thought you couldn’t win. It’s just not happening. That was the feeling during matches. So when you were ahead, you got the feeling that you almost started giving away rounds. The counter-argument would logically be that they just started playing better when they had to, that was their strength. That is also a factor of course, stating totally otherwise would simply be stupid. But at the same time I beg to differ in some regard, when I’m saying that we would have won at least one of the games during the Fall in 2003."

A famous game against 3D at CPL Winter 2005:

"The game versus 3D has evolved to be one of the most remembered CS matches in history, and I won’t forget it in the first place either. We were down 0-10 in the first half so it felt totally fantastic to turn that game around. We won five straight rounds making it 5-10 at half time. Later, in the overtime, I remember it felt like time stood still when SpawN was 1v1 against Ksharp in order to get a second overtime (if he lost, 3D would have won) which he eventually won and we gained that momentum we needed in order to secure the win. Everybody really stepped up and brought something to the team, which really was the reason to why we won that game in the end after being down 0-10."

May you burn in hell, Morgath! (his stupid dwarf that he was playing). :D

It's amazing how many CS pros Everquest/Dark Age of Camelot/World of Warcraft have taken from us over the years.

Awesome!
Been hoping for this interview...

what would eSports do without thorin? ^_^
2012-08-20 23:11:12
I remember him saying during CPL 2005 that if they would lose the pistol round against 3D he would eat hes shoe or what, and they did :D But 3D was better back then and should have won if they didn't change the map for some reason
2012-08-20 23:17:13
awesome interview thorin :)

but vilden was overrated.
2012-08-20 23:28:36
No way dude if anyone was overrated it was Snajdan. Vilden was consistent plus he called well and won SK many major events. Some could argue that during 2005 ESWC and CPL were at the same time so not all the top teams were in attendance of one specific event but regardless I still think he was a great IGL and AWPer. But like he says in his interview the best AWP for me is COGU by far.

Im not saying vilden is bad or smth like that, hes for sure one of the big names in this game.

But when it comes to awping imo, he's a bit overrated. Sometimes i see some users saying hes the best awper ever, lol. i can easily list 10 better awp players than vilden. As you said he was a very consistent player, and a nice caller, but he isnt in my list of top10 awpers ever, maybe 15...

But its only my opinion, and i respect yours :))

Nice ;)
2012-08-20 23:28:41
good job.
rip bullen.

"Cogu though, by far the best awper when he was having a good day"
+1
2012-08-21 02:45:03
dude, he played in the times of cogu that's why he thinks he's the best awper, if you put vilden today up against karrigan/delpan/markeloff/trace then cogu will seem like a little shit compared to those guys
2012-08-21 02:47:29
today is better???? no way man... cogu plays against legends like vilden, walle, frod, sunde, spawn, element, neo ...
matchs vs fnatic, 3d, sk, nip, mym, mouse, mtw, estro, noa, aaa...
and today have 3,4,5 top teams no more man...
plz look movies about this time...
if have this players today with a good skill, a little or much is because the old players, i'm not saying cogu but all players of this time...

"a little shit compared to those guys"... ok hahaha
2012-08-21 03:08:29
lolzzzz Cogu is like one of the best awpers man. He even destroyed fnatic at de_inferno in eswc 2006
2012-08-21 03:16:08
that's right, eswc _2006_
2012-08-21 04:33:27
So you're saying there's no AWP better than him during those days? Like Walle, Sunde, Vilden, Ksharp, Frod, Dsn? :X
2012-08-21 05:03:14
no, I'm saying that cogu is not the best awp _ever_
2012-08-21 06:44:58
Well its hard to say wich player is best ever because everybody has played on different times and most of them has been the dominant players on their time.
2012-08-21 18:59:53
in 2006 cogu was at his peak those players from 2012 wernt n same goes otherway around if we speaking of today so ur argument is invalid.
2012-08-21 05:45:31
kids today!

Nice interview. It makes me realise that time flies away. 8 years since Eyeballers did Dallas.
Btw, where did you get these pictures from? Archie using Razer Viper in 2004.
