I agree with your comment to like 75% of it, whats different between cs 1.6 and source was 2 different things majority picked 1.6 and rest was source. But when source came out, the community just divided, of both games there was tournaments to be played, and the viewers to watch, now CS:GO comes along and majority of 1.6 players/teams has switched or teams split up since some players went to play CS:GO with new teams etc.. so the reason is tournaments probably both for source/1.6 has dropped because of this new game, whitch probably everybody agree's its unbareable to watch, atleast for 1.6 fans that isnt used to the "source-ish" kind of look of the game and perhaps feel to it.
Thats the major thing I think why I dont agree with you fully, sure 1.6 players still can play 1.6 and whatnot, but a large community of 1.6 fans lost their beloved tournaments to watch and the classic match-up's like SK vs fnatic will never be as before. But really, what can you expect from an community that got ripped away from watching bareable tournaments and play a game they loved 100% with their heart, trust me, all the hatred will fade away once there is HLTV on the game and valve fixes more stuff that benifits 1.6 viewers/the game overall, and the love will all come back into CS:GO with 2 community's of source and 1.6 and will be called CS:GO community.
Sorry for the long essay.

+1. I honestly couldn't bear watching CS:GO matches initially as I have been so used to 1.6. But watching Dreamhack Valencia, I actually had fun watching a few matches, especially the finals.
Also, with all the updates which I am sure will be implemented, I am optimistic about the game's future..Call me naive, but I feel this can unite the community eventually.
