Absolutely disgusted
I don't know about all you old school cs 1.6 players, but I am absolutely disgusted with the new age games that have been shit out to us on a silver platter over the last 6-7 years.

Every game we play now a days is designed to last for a year so they can pump and dump another piece of shit for us to buy for $59.99 12 months later. Call of Duty, Battlefield 3 with the upcoming release of Battlefield 4 announced. This is what we get in the competitive scene? Call of Duty? which is bringing in record numbers that could fun the entire continent of Africa? Really?

I have gotten to the point now where I literally refuse to buy another game, simply because I know the outcome of it, they all break down exactly the same to the core, let me explain:

When you first hear about the game, they announce it and give you some shit teaser trailer that is in CGI with the companies logo at some large gaming event, then all the major news networks spread it around and get interviews with the developers to get some information about it. This is fine, promo isn't a bad thing, it hypes people up, but here is the part the gets under my skin, when they do show gameplay footage, 90% of the time it's some story mode single player garbage with voice acting, then they pump and dump 3 to 4 of these trailers and give you a release date.

Once the game goes live, everybody buys in to the hype and forks out their hyped up game giving them every reason to make the a sequel to their pile of shit game that has absolutely no replay value and a story mode everybody beats within 8 hours. Now let's discuss the multi-player aspect:

To even get to the level of competitive play, you have to spend about a month to unlock all the craptastic guns that shoot exactly the same, which is basically no recoil once you attach all your gay modifications that reduce random bullet spray and recoil, super laser sights. Let's not forget you also have a radar that displays the opposing factions location, I mean why install hacks as a cheater? The game comes pre-installed with them, think about it, you know where your enemy is located, you don't have to worry about gun control and the model sizes are usually enormous along with the hit boxes. Dedicated servers you say?

Even if you get dedicated servers for the game, the community doesn't get to host them, large game server networks do, who charge 50-100$ a month on average to even own one single server which can only be modded to the standards of what they offer. All the old competitive scene games were customized to the communities specifications, meaning we steered the game in the direction we thought was best using the foundation given to us within the game. Websites such as ESEA wouldn't exist if it wasn't for such great features.

I am not sure about you guys, but the topic of my thread pretty much speaks for itself. I try not to be a negative person, but how the fuck can you not be? We're delivered shit on a regular basis and not one single competitive player wants it. Yes, I am going to these matters in to my own hands, I am going to attempt a great mod once I get my gaming website online to help me steer the direction of it. For now I understand this is just smoke and mirrors to most of you, but to me, I'd like to see all of you guys playing a game you deserve in 3 years from now, not some piece of shit that makes you sell out because some stay at home father wants to compete with you using his xbox 360 controller.

To all my old school Quake Players, CS 1.6 players - fuck these new generation games, I will bring you something you all deserve.

I agree... a lot of things seems to get worse as the years pass by, I've been talking about this with my friends recently.

I enjoyed SNES, PS1, N64 and PS2, but I dislike a lot these newer videogames, they just focus on graphics and boring coropral movements. The music too, at least 99% of the releases are shit nowadays. Gaming PC as well: the best FPS still the one that use a engine from the past millenium (and the professional scene is dead now), the best racing games are some old versions of NFS and Gran Turismo. MMA: back then, Pride was awesome and UFC cards were super stacked, now we have only one or two good fights per card and Pride is dead. The good part is that computers and technology overall are evolving ultra fast.

I just agree with this (obviously a bit biased, but show my point):

one thing i can't stand is the perks and unlocks. perks are basically build in cheats. i just picked up bf3 when it was on sale for $10 i almost only get killed by players who are ranked 50+ with have huge loadouts and not because they have better aim. same goes for tribes ascend. you have to buy gold unless you want to wait a month saving exp to unlock a new gun. fucking pay to win shit.

the first time i played a modern cod game and it told me to "tap button to play a scripted sequence", i turned that shit off. how is that game play? i want to play a game not watch a movie.

been playing fps since 1996 and this shit is just sad.

best post evah. bring back skill, fun, and good catchy music back into games. games lately are awful, from the beginning of the ps3 era. someone hurry up and make a good game without greedy corporate profits in the way.

i have 22 ps3 games and i get bored after one week. Any of them it doesnt really matter which one of these. :-( Sad
There are exclusive games and shit but they cant really give me the special thing to play it any further after i played it through. It really lacks the passion these days. Its like a hot chick(graphics) with bad attitudes(gameplay). You just want get in her pants and after that you wanna get rid of her :D

Okay that was an wierd example that popped up in my mind :D

they only care about money now, and they've found the formula to get it = eye-candy graphics + easy difficulty = $$$$$$$$$ money from mama's spoiled boys

These are dark days for true old school gamers indeed.

2012-09-28 11:20:10
I Remember posting a similar thread when COD MW2 hit a 6 or 7 Million record sale. They pump a blackops Or MW every year.. and earn shit loads of money they keep breaking up the community . CS 1.6/ Quake was the best. Now Free2play is the only hope. else bring a similar awesome game and get subscription like 10$ a year.. Worth paying for CS 1.6 :) Ill do that !

Note: We shouldnt forget when a game like CS 1.6 became mega hit, valve though was happy didnt get much money from a 10$ game :( but they could used the idea i mentioned above. To be honest CS:GO is cheap no doubt but they stuck to the formula of a Sequel to Source than 1.6 :(

Before I played 1.6, I'd never really liked playing video games. When I touched 1.6 for the first time, I noticed as soon as possible that it was "the game", the only game that would convince me who was never really a gamer, to be addicted in playing it.
2012-09-28 07:34:04
I can see a vast majority of you agree with me with the exception of a few trolls, which is bound to happen in any thread. It's refreshing to see that you guys all feel and experience the same as myself, it let's me know I am on the right track and not wrong about what I felt was wrong with the industry :)

Like I said, I am going to start planning and developing a mod this weekend and build a small team to make it happen. Thanks for the support!

Personally I do play MW3, but not online. When I'm so bored I ocasionally play some survival or Spec-Ops, or whatever. I didn't buy the game, I won't buy the game, I've made the mistake to buy 4 call of dutys on my 360, but then I sold it along with all my games so I can afford a better PC. I do enjoy playing the game, but I'm not willing to spend $60 to buy it so that I can spend another $60 the next year, you are right in that point of view. As for competitive play... CoD is not made for that, it's made for the kids, like 10->17 y/o kids who don't care about their parents money and they think they diserve everything... I agree with you, in almost every point of view, nice post.

It's about making cash ($.$) ofc, ppl have money to spend so why companies shouldn't make new games for them? If they are buying why not...

IMO, You can make every game or almost every competetive.

It depends on your definition of competition
2012-09-28 14:31:08
Amazing post. So true.
2012-09-28 14:51:28
its obvious.each competetive title needs money for tournaments = you need sponsors.noone will invests his money without profit = noone will invests to old games.
i agree in some way with you but you rly cant stop progress in gaming industry.

and imho BF3 is great game.i dont know if bf could be competetive game but multiplayers is just awesome
2012-09-28 14:52:09
you do know that cod/bf arent the only games coming out right? there are plenty of great games to play. just because a game is old doesnt make it automatically better than all new games
2012-09-28 14:55:03
I stopped caring about new games or what the gaming community plays the day I realised the best MMORPG game of all times - Lineage 2 is almost dead and teenagers in Poland prefer to play Metin2, this is the day I realised whole gaming community is completely retarded
2012-09-28 15:05:03
About the dedicated servers what is funny about it is that even on pc you have p2p and you don't have dedicated servers on modern warfare 3 or just a few :/

P2P for gaming is the worst thing i ever seen, most of the time you will have one guy hosting if you are unlucky sometimes he will lag or he will quit the game and he will be replaced by someone with not enough upload to handle the amount of players.

You wanna make your mod ? on what engine ?

Source engine, goldsource, Cryengine 3, Unreal engine 3, Id tech 4-5 ?

You can build your own game with UDK now and it is absolutly free.
You can even sell the game until a certain amount of revenue.
2012-09-28 15:26:05
I've been wanting to make a game for some time, while I have been working on my gaming website. I have most of the theme/concepts down, but I need to actually "build it" on paper first before I bring together a mod team to create it in software.

One of the engines I was looking at that can be good if you have the right team that knows how to utilize all the tools properly is the Unity3D Engine. It's free and it has the infrastructure in place for what I want to do.

I have a few connections with game developers that can give me answers to questions that I may get stuck on.

I just read about UDK, in order for it to be free licensing you have to be a professional game developer, so getting my hands on that engine would probably be after this first game I make. I do love that UDK is starting to go Free 2 Create, which is the direction of the world now, it's great :) - thanks for the info though, much appreciated !
2012-09-28 20:58:10

i didn't understand the last paragraph but with pleasure for thing i posted.

You want to build your own game and sell it or go for free ?

The UDK is also FREE for non-commercial use. Feel free to use the UDK to make any application (game or otherwise) for free distribution. No additional license (beyond the EULA) is required.

Actualy if you seek for teams for your game you could check here i guess you know it already ?

Soo, what kind of game you are going to create?
2012-09-28 21:52:33
Counter-strike theme, sticking to the roots of what 1.6 offers but a spin off in theme and very minor game change design. It will take time to create like all great things and people will forget we had this conversation, but once it's in alpha phase, I am sure people will become very interested.

Do you have any ideas?

i remember games live final fantasy VIII witch took me 1 year to complete, were are thoose games?:s

miss final fantasy 1-10,metal gear solid 1,gran turismo 1-2,alone in the dark 1-4,fallout 1-2(2 was a big big game),black and white 1,c&c red alert 1-2,tekken 1-3,even digimon world 2 was better than the crap we are playing nowdays, now that i think about it,i havent bought one single game for the last 5 years;p

hahhahaah :D, yeh I will have to abuse my profession that way :D
2012-10-04 16:49:39
100% truth you wrote there. They are fucking try to sell movies/scripted animations..not real game play which has repeat value. And this virtual goods within the game is the biggest steaming pile of crap ever. You can't win it straight? Whine till your daddy swipes his credit card once and then you can be a champ! wow! Achievement unlocked!

I am sure most people will have more fun playing Road Rash than these stupid "click to kill the puppy" games. I have a feeling this Zynga mentality of casual gamers is seeping into the PC platform which till some time ago catered to serious gamers. Now all these feel like Farmville frankly. Buy a pink tractor and grow some carrot! This mentality corresponds to very low difficulty levels, hints and cheats at every difficult step in the game, guns and items to be unlocked by your fucking credit cards and then post the retarded high score on Facebook.

I wish people made their choices known to the game developers by not buying these crappy games. But BF3 and CODs sell like mad. I just watched a friberg CS:GO clip too. Just bad. So I guess majority of us don't really take a stand at the time of buying. If you have to literally force me to 'see the skill' in a video, you have already failed.

Good luck on your project. Maybe you can crowdsource some ideas and incorporate them and if you have a compelling enough gameplay in your hands, you can even host it at kickstarter. I hope to see a good game. Last time I saw something good from community was Warsaw (made by Solomon I think). Maybe you can take some clues from there.

It`s just too bad that competitive players aren`t majority. Majority instead are casuals and ragers whose would rather farm xp and rank up theyr characters, instead of improving theyr own skills and playstyle in theyr played games. Although to encourage such thing, good game with high skill ceiling is neccesary.

good news for CS:GO since it meets pretty much all of your criteria !!
2012-10-01 03:39:50
I heard they may be doing changes, let's see if they actually listen and do it correctly. I've been around the block with developers and saying they listen to the community and big changes are coming and it comes no where near what the community asked for :)

I really hope they do get it right, because it's exactly what this industry needs.
2012-10-01 09:08:31
Bah.... get off your high horse and realise that old games are only what they are because that is the era you are from... Gameplay is subjective and the young generation prefer fast paced easy to control COD games (otherwise they wouldn't sell). Time to move on and realise we as older gamers are a dying breed.

Best example I can put to it is the music industry. Looking at how its changeed from 1900 - 2012 you can see that taste changes by generation. Saying that though, a game that has just come out with the backing of its developer could always be beneficial as the game can be moulded into an Esports (especially with modding capabilities!).
2012-10-01 10:00:19
please explain, in detail, how the "music industry" changed between 1900 and 2012.
2012-10-01 18:27:17
digital distribution for one
2012-10-01 18:35:36
"in detail"

i am looking for a complete and thorough overview.
2012-10-01 18:57:44
Detail isn't required to know that taste in music has changed along with the technology available.
2012-10-01 19:04:49
music is now distributed digitally in lower quality as opposed to the 20th century in which we had vinyl and compact disc.

does this meet your standards?
2012-10-02 04:23:19
wat ebout the ' taste changes'" hmm . //? not just changes of thing muisc is putted on :)
2012-10-02 10:56:54
kinda true. i always had respect for the old stuff
2012-10-03 04:48:23
I would agree with you if I was wrong. It's like saying the music today by the emo and hip hop industry is full of legendary musicians and that the only reason why I don't like it, is because it's not from my generation.

I am not even from the 50's, 60's or 70's and I can tell you right now, they made better music than the crap being shoved out today. Does that mean all musicians today are bad? Not at all, but a vast majority of them I wouldn't even classify as a musician but more of an entertainer.

You need to look deeper and see why CS:GO isn't as good as CS 1.6 mechanically. Once you understand how games are built, you start to notice in what minor changes in the code and the environment that make one game more superior to the other. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion :)
2012-10-02 19:23:18
Dead right and I agree completely, unfortunately developers will always build a product to suit the market (the mass majority such as cod fans) and we as competitive gamers should hopefully be able to advise and turn it into a competitive esports.

I don't think CSGO is as far from finished as people say, I think they just struggle to move on from what they've learnt but it only needs a few changes to make it right. People who say the skill ceiling is low is just absurd as the games only been out a short while and new play styles are developed all the time!

greed is the main problem, im sure most game devs can make awesome fun games but its more profitable to reduce skill requirement and make a piece of crap. it sells much more

perfect example: call of duty saga

i dont know if you played the first cods, they weren't perfect at all but they were decent (i would say until cod4, even tho cod4 was baddish) they have been lowering the standards and making it a very-casual oriented to the point that my mother could jump on a server and get a decent score.

my point is that if you want to compete in the gaming business you need to make crap games- or go out of business.
2012-10-03 20:15:10
We want games which we would love playing. Where are game designers who made the most enternaining games? Crash series, NFS Underground...
2012-10-03 20:29:06
last sentence is interesting. are you developing a game or mod or something? you make me curious! :P
2012-10-03 20:38:14
As I was saying above, yes I am in the works of developing something, but it won't be anytime soon. So this conversation will fade in to thin air until the time comes for revealing what I have in it's digital form :)

I want to be in the gaming industry as a Game Director / Designer and Writer. It's my passion :)
