What if they made CS:GO free to play?
Just have a small thought on this, I see that there are quite a few semi successful F2P FPS games like Point Blank and stuff out there that do have some sort of small competitive scene.

Being serious, CS:GO is only around $10 and though this isn't really that much, what do you think would happen if the game being f2p?

I know in some way or another Valve would want to make some sort of money out of it, i.e in TF2 it was micro transactions for new items and hats, but this won't really suit CS:GO much will it.

Will the the CS:GO scene feel a sudden boom and become ever more so popular?

Just a thought, what do you think guys. F2P CS:GO to work if it did ever happen?

What do you guys think?
2012-11-01 23:43:50
Then how could they make money? Also hackers would overun the game.

The main problem I think csgo has is that most peoples computers cant run it smoothly. I mean sure you might get like 50 fps while walking around but when in firefights you need a decent computer.

Main thing valve should look to do is introduce some fps commands imo.
2012-11-01 23:45:59
Yeah good point mate, I see a lot of f2p games become hacker ridden. TF2 not so much as far as I know though.

I understand what you mean but look at nowadays' successful fps games like BF3 and compare the requierements to those from CSGO. It's a joke. Every modern PC should be able to run csgo.

well it raised 5k players above the usual quote , but still dissapointing
2012-11-02 00:02:09
Well, I guess if it's going to be f2p CS:GO will have a lot of pubmasters, haha. Just like 1.6 (non-steam).
2012-11-01 23:49:49
If it's F2P, why would it have Non-Steamers? Makes no sense.
2012-11-02 18:59:43
He meant that CS:GO would have alot of pubmasters, just like non-steam CS 1.6 has.

not sure whether this would be a good idea or not...was just discussing this with my friend the other day and we came to a conclusion that cs:go would be overrun with cheaters like one said before...good thing would be, if valve would establish a separate anti-cheat group to update anti-cheat prog every couple of days or so...
2012-11-01 23:52:16
Yeah mate, I mean TF2 hasn't exactly become ridden with cheaters and there is some sort of working competitive scene with ESEA and stuff.

2012-11-01 23:53:42
valve has spent a sick load of money developing csgo. the game is already super cheap, can't ask for more.
2012-11-01 23:54:42
They made it on a Source engine you know. Its nothing new and probably required not that much of anything
2012-11-01 23:58:09
You clearly have no idea of what you're talking about
2012-11-02 00:03:45
And you probably do by replying to my with nothing
2012-11-02 00:05:39
His retarded CS:GO fanboy and 14 years old
2012-11-02 00:18:26
obviously you don't know what you are saying. let me ask you this: do you have any real experience on software development?
2012-11-02 00:13:35
No I haven't. But its still the same engine that they made Source and Half Life 2 on it. They clearly are familiar with the engine and that probably didn't require a lot of effort or money
2012-11-02 00:17:44
i agree with the engine part. but they were still developing the game for several months, and they still work on updating it, and just the work hours included in the whole project equal a huge amount of cash!
2012-11-02 00:28:25
No one knows the exact number of how many money they invested in the game, besides the developers themselves. But still saying that it was huge or anything like that is a bit unrealistic. Its not CS 2 or anything
2012-11-02 00:36:32
lol smh
2012-11-02 10:28:57
well its the same engine but i think it looks just as realistic as bf and cod
2012-11-02 19:42:14
wow , got 5k players above the average

2012-11-02 00:09:57

2012-11-02 00:39:49
steam stat of GO will hit 30k everyday?
2012-11-02 02:01:44
nothing csgo is so cheap that is almost free, what they should had are fps command so ppl with gameboys can play it
2012-11-02 10:30:40
it would be free
2012-11-02 18:54:03
The game is not intended to be 'the next big competitive title'. The ENTIRE point behind making CS:GO was to generate QUICK money. It is not a long term money generating game. The entire point of developing it would be put to shame if they make it F2P.

2012-11-02 19:16:45
The whole point of making CS:GO ffa for this weekend is to convice more players into purchasing this product. Anyway, it already have an good discount atm.
