POPPERS win ESEA Open Season 13
Time: 2013-04-24 06:01
Game: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

POPPERS, led by former Anexis Counter-Strike 1.6 in-game leader Danny "BERRY" Krüger, have won ESEA Open Season 13 after defeating einheit 2-0 in the grand final.

A total of fourteen teams qualified for the playoffs with teams such as Torqued, TeamCRG, einheit, LowLandLions and POPPERS vying the $900 first place prize of Season 13.

While every team that made playoffs has been moved up to ESEA Intermediate for the upcoming Season 14, only the top eight placed in the money during this season's playoffs.

Joshua "steel" Nissan's Torqued were knocked down early, with Chris "chrisJ" de Jong's LowLandLions quickly following suit just like Mad Catz Vienna surprise TeamCRG and Polish MaxFloPlay.

BERRY led his team to ESEA Open championship

Danish POPPERS and Spanish einheit, formerly known as Karont3, wound up meeting in the upper bracket finals, where the Spaniards prevailed 19-17 in overtime and sent Krüger's squad down to the consolidation final.

Meeting them there was Norwegian team Kraftlaget who fell victim to the Danes with a 12-16 score on de_inferno_se, setting up a rematch of the upper bracket final in the grand final.

In the grand final the tables turned just enough for the Danes to come up with two 16-13 wins on de_dust2_se and de_nuke_se, good for a 2-0 win from the lower bracket.

I thought berry and you were playing different teams.

Do Ze and turkizh still play?

GL anyway

As said, this is just a mix. People play in like 4 different teams, but since we had a spot in ESEA, and the danish Komplett league, we just play these leagues for fun togheter.

paying 5th/6th threw 8th is stupid... I couldn't be bothered screw around with bank account details for $100 between 5 people. better off just giving 1st and 2nd more incentive.
2013-04-24 10:28:39
It's good you aren't in charge of any serious tournament, both LAN and online, then. Your logic is retarded, "because I'm lazy fuck the up and coming teams". It's good that not only the top 2-3 teams get paid, even though it's not much it's at least a reason to play for the semi-pro teams.

And the most obvious thing is that the tournament pays the prize to 1 guy, team captain, and he splits the money to the rest of the team.
2013-04-24 13:21:54
Clearly you did not understand my point. no one aims for 5th-8th. and teams at this level who are putting in hours and hours and hours a week are not looking at the fact that 5th-8th gets paid a certain amount. every single team looks at the money 1st and 2nd can potentially gets and aims for that.

Don't call my logic retarded when you misunderstand me. I was saying if i was IN A TEAM not organizing a tournament, after putting in 100+ hours over the time of the tournament i'm hardly thinking about $25. but the reason for people joining the tournament in the first place is greatly changed by having a $1400 1st place rather than $900.
2013-04-24 23:29:22
even if there was no money at stake Im sure those guys would give a 100 %, with organisations/sponsoring/repurations on the line.

the fact that you wouldn't be bothered explains why you were never in a team like iM
2013-04-24 13:28:42
wrong. anyone who is motivated by making money will not make it in gaming. you have to do it despite the amount of money you can potentially make... or rather not make if you were to spend the same amount of hours doing well... er... anything.
2013-04-24 23:33:20
that's exactly what Im saying, they shouldnt be motivated because theres a few bucks they should be motivated because its good practice/prestige on the line...
2013-04-24 23:36:26
"the fact that you wouldn't be bothered explains why you were never in a team like iM"

then what do you mean by that?
2013-04-24 23:38:29
Because they always give 100%, no matter if its just a lousy 100$ at stake, that was what I was trying to say :p
2013-04-25 13:49:12
so there is like 100 teams playing many months of regular season & playoffs and u think there shouldnt be prizemoney for 8 best?

not if the prize money is $25 no. i think at that point after putting in that amount of hours it's pointless. that is my opinions yes.

I think the money would be better off put towards first place because the first place prize money is what catches peoples attention and garners interest.

GO LLL!

torqued 7-8? :O
2013-04-24 13:26:52
lol I did not expect them to win after they played against us in the regular season..
2013-04-24 14:30:02
Insane that you can tell teams before the season "hey yes if you win the open you will get into the invite tournament"

And when teams reach playoff they invent a "immediate tounament" and through teams in there.

Embarissing imo!

There was always Intermediate in NA so this was expected. Plus (I don't want to take away anything from the teams in the Open S13 Playoffs), but they don't "belong" in the Invite devision YET. I know it's harsh, and I'd love to be proven wrong coz we need more teams to break the boundaries and impress people and cause upsets, but I just don't see it right now.
2013-04-24 17:25:37
So cause its in the NA tournaments you can just expect it to go to the European? Thats just retarded to claim that.

So you don't see teams as LLL, Torqued, Team CRG and so on to have any chance against mousesports/ASES(wtf are they even doing there)/Curse and so on.

Funny fact 2 from our team even knocked Curse out of Copenhagen Games.

And another funny fact all of our players except BERRY have beaten fnatic and Western Wolves in official online games in the last 2 weeks, but hey you are the expert apparently :)

If you are planning to make a immediate league, fucking state it in the beginning of the tournament, instead of telling teams top spots will go to the invite tournament.

"So cause its in the NA tournaments you can just expect it to go to the European? Thats just retarded to claim that."

Yes. I was always under that impression, that there is going to be an Intermediate Devision once the first EU season is over. I can't recall if ESEA actually said that if you win you go to Invite, but if they did then I agree that it's BS.

"So you don't see teams as LLL, Torqued, Team CRG and so on to have any chance against mousesports/ASES(wtf are they even doing there)/Curse and so on."
Maybe some teams will have a chance, but from the 3 teams you listed... No. All 3 teams have being going under severe lineup changes, and to me don't look like a top contender. To me!

Great!

I don't understand why you're taking my comment so serious. Like I said, I don't mean to take anything away from you or the other teams who made the Open playoffs, but I personally always saw the Intermediate Devision as the next thing after Open.

If your team did so well at CPH and your players have won official games vs fnatic and WW, then maybe you will get invited into Invite (makes sense right?).
2013-04-24 17:51:47
Ofc im taking it serious, im pretty sure all the teams who signed up for the open league expectet that 1-2-3 from the open would be going to the invite league.

And yes the 900$ first prize is ofcourse awesome! But we are all playing to get to the invite league, not for the money.

Are you even a ESEA admin, or are you just commenting your opinion?
2013-04-24 18:59:33
Opinion about what? Im not an Admin.

actually prior to tgwri1s telling me your team is now dead and simply a mix you were going to be considered for invite in the meeting tomorrow (and would at least get in the fan vote if nothing else) but considering it's obvious you aren't a real team, that won't be the case anymore :).

i'd also prefer it if our words weren't twisted. we've never promised direct move ups to invite as it is, like the name suggests, a division based on invitations. some other teams will be moved up based on good results outside of esea, and some open teams might get in. it varies.

invite teams will be determined in the coming days. teams who are currently in intermediate can still make invite.
2013-04-24 22:17:30
Im not trying to twist your (ESEA) words, but i know that several other teams asked various admins several times how many teams where going to the ESEA invite, and i asked several times up to the final even, and everytime i just got a answer, we dunno yet(It was never said clearly "all teams will go to the immediate).

I will without a doubt say that half the teams who reached the playoffs wouldnt have played it, if they knew that they were gonna end up in a immediate league. Not that 900$ isnt awesome, cause it really is, but i think we were all playing to get into the invite tournament.

And all of a sudden there is a immediate tournament created (Yes i might have been in the NA for a long time, but it was never published until a few days ago that the teams got in there, and not the invite.

And yes we are a "mixteam" atm, but since we are playing together in like 2-3 different tournaments (natioal as internatioal) why shouldnt we deserve a spot in the invite (we even got a really great org sponsoring us)
And i guess you know the danish scene, always making new teams, so who knows if we actually would make a team, since we are pretty much pwning everyone online atm^^

I know that you might need 1-2-3-4 new teams in the invite league, and yeah ofcourse there are many good teams in the immediate, i for one would be dissapointet if you choose teams who finished under us in the Open series.

well i'm only one of the people in charge of making the decision but i can tell you that you are ranked much higher than every other team in this current open season in terms of chances of getting into invite. we haven't decided yet.
