WCA 2016 finals with $200,000
By: MIRAA
Time: 2016-03-10 16:28
Game: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The organisers of the World Cyber Arena (WCA) have announced that the event is expanding to CS:GO with a $200,000 tournament to be hosted at this year's global finals.

With CS:GO growing at a fast rate in Asia, the World Cyber Arena - one of the most popular esports events in the region - is looking to capitalise on this trend by running its own tournament this year.

WCA 2016 will consist of three seasons, each one featuring Chinese and international qualifiers. The winners of each season will meet at the world finals, taking place in Yinchuan, in December, where 1.35 million Yuan (~$200,000) will be on offer.

CyberZen, now Vici Gaming, will compete in the WCA qualifiers

The first Chinese qualifier will run from March 15 to May 1, with an online group stage leading up to the offline playoffs. A total of 220,000 Yuan ($33,700) will be on offer in each Chinese qualifier.

Below you can find the group draw for the first Chinese qualifier:

Group A Group B
EDG Vici Gaming
TyLoo Wings
AG HG
eFuture NEW4

More details about WCA 2016 and its international qualifiers will be released shortly.

sweet, good for chinese scene

2016-03-10 17:21:22
dota2. league of legends.
2016-03-10 17:32:59
dota2 > all chinese teams got stomped by EU last major
LoL > there arent even any chinese players in the chinese teams anymore kek, only koreans

u wot?
2016-03-10 17:56:57
Not sure about the LoL thingy. Isnt there a global rule of only 2 players from other country being allowed? At least its tha way in NA - EU. And about dota2, calm your anus man it was one tournament without a chinese team being close to the title... The way you talk about dota i assume only pro teams in csgo for you are top 3? Ignorant as fuck..
2016-03-10 18:10:05
>The way you talk about dota i assume only pro teams in csgo for you are top 3?

No, top 1. Fnatic. There are no teams close to them right now, they are tier 1 and all others t2 or worse.
2016-03-10 18:58:32
top kek chinese dota is dead like na cs
when does last time any chinese team won some big lan? like 2 years ago ti4

Yinchuan is a dump. Holy shit.

Tiny city[in terms of the world] and only thing to do there is ride the camels near the Gobi desert.
2016-03-10 16:49:19
yea i was really surprised when i saw this

of all the places they couldve chose in china and they went with a poor, remote agricultural city in the west, no one will ever want to go back there
2016-03-10 17:01:32
It's China's Katowice

Apparently the Yinchuan government is involved as an organiser though so it makes sense that they don't host it in Shanghai, probably part of a tourism drive

-rep WCA
2016-03-10 17:15:09
WCA is not scam.

They need super long to pay out, but they payed out at somepoint.

WCA now has more then 6 games, Dota II, Crossfire, Warcraft 3, Hearthstone, Heroes and CS:GO. Maybe SC II gets added soon.

WCA was pretty neat 2016, I liked the event a lot. They become better each year even tho it is still a Chinese event with typical chinese problems (For example you couldnt use proxys last year at WCS, so Casters of smaller games couldnt cast on Twitch and had to use Azubu).

In total WCA will give out over 30M $ during this year, so yeah, money speaks. If they send it over.
2016-03-10 17:17:49
CIS>China, but we haven't any tournament with more than 50k$. I am not surprised
2016-03-10 17:36:07

Can only hope everything will work out fine. It can be a very interesting competition and a good chance to expand cs go even further.
2016-03-10 17:47:35
why so much money for tier 5 ?
2016-03-10 17:48:48
2016-03-10 18:02:13
I wish they would just invite fnatic as a final boss for the first place prize.

WCA is such a joke lol

They've owed my team $10k and another team upwards of $50k for a year now, along with owing similar amounts to every other team that competed in their tournament

Not to mention how completely corrupt and incompetent they are
