Krakow has been chosen to stage the 11th Counter-Strike Major, Valve and PGL have announced.
The event will take place from July 16-23, with the group matches being played backstage, while the playoffs will be held at TAURON Arena Krakow, which hosted the League of Legends EU LCS Summer Finals last year. The total purse of $1million from the previous three Majors is kept the same.
This is the third time that a Major will be held in Poland, with the previous two having been hosted in Katowice by ESL, in 2014 and 2015. It is also the first Valve-sponsored event run by PGL, which assisted DreamHack with the production for the DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca Major, in 2015.
The PGL 2017 Krakow CS:GO Major Championship Series will kick off with the usual four Minor events, held in Asia, the Americas, CIS and Europe. The top teams from these regional events will secure spots at the PGL Krakow Major offline qualifier, joining the bottom eight from the ELEAGUE Major.
While the exact locations of the Minors and of the offline qualifier have not been disclosed, PGL has already released the complete schedule for the Major Series, which looks as follows:
- June 1-4: PGL Asia Minor Championship
- June 8-11: PGL Americas Minor Championship
- June 8-11: PGL CIS Minor Championship
- June 15-18: PGL Europe Minor Championship
- June 29 - July 2: Major Offline Qualifier
- July 16-19: PGL Krakow Major Group Stage
- July 21-23: PGL Krakow Major Main event
For the first time in the history of the Majors, all the matches, including the ones from the Minors and from the qualifier, will be streamed live in 1080p/60fps. The PGL Major Krakow will also "mark the debut of a host of new features aimed to make the viewing experience, both live and online, truly one of a kind", according to a statement from the event's organisers.
The following eight teams have already secured spots at PGL Major Krakow, as a result of the Legend status earned in Atlanta:
Having finished in the bottom eight at the ELEAGUE Major, the following teams have received direct invites to the offline qualifier:
* G2 currently hold the ex-EnVyUs spot, and the ex-G2 spot is currently under review

i mean they aint as good as eleague, but they have solid oldschool production. no fancy ass 4 different camera shots on screen at the same time like PGL used to in the past, but thats actually a good thing.
and rip PGL, they will get torn to shreds unless they literally increase their production value by about 300%.
also rip thorin, best man on the analysis desk.
the desk will suffer tho, noone will give a fuck. thorin is irreplaceable.
These days he ruins any desk he is on by trying to be edgy and crack jokes all the time, except he is clearly too socially awkward to hit the mark 90% of the time.
If he toned down the jokes a lot and stuck to being an analyst he would be much better.
but nobody understands to set the scene for a matchup like he does or explains the storylines and the significance of it like he does.
and he adds spice, which is where everyone else miserably fails and it just ends up looking staged or cringey.
and tone down the jokes? when is the last time u watched a desk with thorin on? i believe ur either confusing his twitter personality with his desk personality or the last time u watched was gfnity 2015 or some shit.
take yanko for example: he adds: good in-depth analysis and breakdown of rounds. in broken english and with little charisma. pair that with fuckin natu or vendetta or some pro/ex pro that also doesnt have much charisma and would pretty much do the same as he does and u got a boring desk.
add thorin who is great at explaining storylines, general analysis, charisma, jokes, banter, lightens everything up and kaboom u got the best of both worlds. sick analysis but its not boring. its not so fucking vanilla.
ynk is good, dont get me wrong. he is good together with thorin. on his own with moses and machine or whatever tho, thats quickly gonna get boring.
ynk can be replaced by a variety of people.
nobody can make the desk as entertaining as thorin can tho.
ResidentSpeeper Thanks YNK ResidentSpeeper
Ok I agree, mr. ginger is entertaining af but- dont. Let. Him. Predict.
at least he usually has reasons behind his predictions which are stringent and well thought-out, even if i often myself disagree with them.
hindsight is 20/20 and 99% of children flaming him after the match would only be able to flip a coin if u asked them to make a prediction.
Have a nice day
Snax has Major at home

Back of the envelope calculation : Even if 20% of the 1 million concurrent viewers watch at 6mbps (absolute bare minimum... still pretty shit quality).
They'd need 200000 x 6 = about 1.2 tbps bandwidth. The cost of bandwidth has to be offset by the revenues via advertisements or otherwise.
MACHETE CITY WELCOME EVERYONE :D

this gonna be good!
Are all the games in the arena?
Stage group would be probably w/o crowd but i can be wrong
can't wait, crowd will be amazing. Poland always delivers with CS:GO events, the major should be even better than usual!
Took them long enough but FINALLY! THE FUTURE IS HERE!
Post edited 2017-03-15 18:57:26
BTW I hope you will all enjoy our beloved city!

and also where to get tickets?
Post edited 2017-03-15 19:11:58
why not back in Romania ?
But sure thing a retarded and ignorant swedish kid will hate on Romanian CS fans and label their crowds as 'shit' just because of some stereotypes he heard in the media.
Gotta love how retards like you always say the the crowd in Cluj was 'shit' but none are able to say why exactly is it so.
Let me help you 'The crowd in Cluj was shit because I'm a fucking brainwashed moron who heard some shit stereotypes about Romanian people and because I'm also a retard I'm mistaking stereotypes for facts because that's how far my mental ability and my education go. So I'm hating on everything related to Romania and Romanians because of that reason alone'. I gotta go read something now. Lowered myself to a retard's standards, gotta make up for that.
Get lost you fucking disgrace.
PGL's streams keep the sound within the venue very low because they want to let the people hear the game and the casters. I'm sure that you've never attended a PGL event. PGL Season 1 was held in a cinema theater the crowd was fairly loud during the TSM vs VP matches since both teams were crowd favorites. However, when I watched the stream, I could hardly hear the crowd.
Also, Romanian crowds don't freak out over a video game. They just sit and watch. DH Bucharest 2016 was an exception though. It truly was a shit show because, for some reason, a huge amount of kids (I'm talking about 12 year olds and below that) were allowed inside. Parents were simply dropping them at the venue as if it was some after school session and the kids treated the venue like it was a playground. However, the crowds at other DH Bucharest events, as well as the crowds at DH Cluj-Napoca events have been really civilized. They don't have to cheer, everybody has their own way to enjoy themselves. Who the fuck are you to tell them how to enjoy themselves?
Also, another downside of DH Cluj-Napoca was that it wasn't a CS:GO event exclusively, so people naturally wandered around the venue to check out other games as well.
I'm still pretty sure that what's bothering you in fact is that it was held in Romania and you only know a bunch of shit stereotypes about us and probably dislike us because of those. Gotta mention that if so, you're a hypocrite, if not straight up retarded when considering the fact that Poland receives a lot of hatred because of some shit stereotypes as well.
Brazil zil zil zil zil zil is our time again!
We smart, we loyal, we friendly, we are from BRAZIL!
Oh great I remember in Cluj there was 30 minute breaks plus analysis between every single bo1 in groups. It took forever to finish the matches.
They all played @ Atlanta Major
Krakow looks like a chill city, I'm hyped for this major.
But PGL > ESL so not that bad. Serves them right for the shitty streaming and org skills.
Tauron arena = 22 000 max of ppl watching
ESL will be pissed that it starts literally a week after Cologne; I can see them struggling to get a good field as teams playing at the major will be saving strats, and obviously half the teams will have just qualified for the major a week before Cologne. They'll be hoping a big name team or two fails to qualify so they will come.
What's gonna happen with Cologne then...
How are they new organizers if they works with valve for a long time?

Valve is just another monopoly...
Valve please make it happen!
at cluj major they handled the production, and DH was the organizer
Hyped for this major, pgl production as well and vp get another chance into Europe homeland..
Edit : Guys ESL ONE COLOGNE is still a 250k $ tournament at the same venue, not being a major should not affect it, unless..

It actually got me so intrigued I'm thinking of going myself, first time on an event, should be a major :)
Cheers for Krakow! <3
