ESWC guarantees prize money

Game-Solution, the organizers behind ESWC, have announced a bank guarantee to secure that all payments under the ESWC tournament are given to the respectable winners.

Back in April, 2009, the owners of the ESWC brand, Games-Services, started selling off assets trying to save themselves from bankruptcy. Shortly after it was announced that they would have to cease all activity and close down. Four months later the ESWC brand was bought by VALOSC, who had hired most of the former Games-Services staff.

Late September, last year, a staggering prize pool of $200,000 was announced for the ESWC tournament in Disneyland, France. The former owners of ESWC still owed teams money, but as Games-Solution did not have any connections with the old owners they were not entitled to pay off any debt. How much the ESWC owed alone is uncertain, but together with the CPL and Clanbase/GGL they owe $274,000. ESWC is still not entitled to pay any of the debt.

ESWC will be back in Paris this summer

To secure any misdoubts about future unpaid money, Game-Solutions have now brought in a bank guarantee for $213,500 which will be paid to the respectable winners at the Disneyland event. They have also offered people to contact their lawyer firm, Fidal group, if they wish to receive an official certification of the bank guarantee.

This is not the first time a bank guarantee has been issued by event organizers, as shgOpen did the same back in 2007.

Game-Solution seems to be progressing in the right direction, and hopefully will ESWC be put back on the map in its former shape.

That's a good point. Amount of unpayed money considering many international Lans is just embarrassing. It just proves houw unprofessional, professional gaming is.

2010-03-18 22:54:05
Actually ESL owes more than 500.000 $
2010-03-18 22:59:49
ESL should close down.
2010-03-19 02:48:04
Of course not, but it's just an example of how this crisis affects everyone.
2010-03-19 17:43:40
ESL doesn't owe anywhere near 500.000$, but they do owe a substantial amount of money.
2010-03-19 10:35:18
GamesCom 2009 Intel Extreme Masters 500.000$
2010-03-19 11:33:05
They do actually, I'm 100% sure.
2010-03-19 17:43:22
ESL should do the same...
Anyways, good news :)

France is the best :p see you @Paris if you come to ESWC :)
2010-03-18 23:00:35
I think that G7 teams won't boycott eswc, furthermore now there is a bank guarantee!
Will they see the other teams attending at the event and winning prizes at home? I don't think so..

It won't change anything regarding the prize money they won in 2008.
2010-03-18 23:40:42
I don't think you understood the news. They just secured the prize money for the event this year, so the teams will be paid almost immediately after, but they don't have to pay for previous prize moneys.

In short, neo and co. probably won't get their money... ever.
2010-03-19 00:00:27
damn, sorry for that. :>
2010-03-19 15:36:23
eswc with cpl coming back cool
2010-03-18 23:34:12
CPL should do the same, prove that they're going to pay for real.
2010-03-19 00:00:48
did cpl announced their return on cs 1.6 too?
2010-03-19 00:12:26
Angel Munoz confirmed that the new owners of the CPL were looking to do so.

www.hltv.org/news/3891-what-is-up-with-the-cpl

It's not 100% sure on 1.6, but why would they want the Valve's license then ? :)
2010-03-19 00:17:07
hehe yeah, great news if they do come back
2010-03-19 00:35:38
maybe now they can pay neo
2010-03-19 00:23:23
did you read the article?

2010-03-19 07:14:40
niice =)
2010-03-19 09:04:52
i really hope that the G7 teams keep boycotting ESWC, even if the prize money this year is guaranteed.

As far as I understood the news, it is a new director that has taken over ESWC and he seems to be running it the right way, so why would G7 boycot it? Please tell me if I misunderstood something because it doesn´t make sense to me.

Uh what?! That makes no sense what so ever..
2010-03-19 09:51:08
that would be such a waste... the cs scene was (/is) in a crisis, a big event comes back with good guarantees and you want it to fail?
2010-03-19 11:04:08
YEY
2010-03-19 11:15:29
I really hope those petitions and movements against the old events will be cancelled, that would be just stupid from the teams & fans to boycott an event just because it bears the same name as an old tournament

You can't buy another car/house when you have unpaid debts...For me eswc is just a bunch of liars. Boycott it!

Do you understand what a bankruptcy is? The current owners BOUGHT the brand, and them doing so actually helped pay off some of the creditors that ESWC had..

When will be results of competition "Win 7h" ?
2010-03-19 11:38:02
certify that the French bank Société Générale [...] has issued on the 17th of March 2010 a confirmation that the company SARL GAMES SOLUTION, [...] organizing the ESWC in Disneyland Paris on the 30th of June until 4th of July 2010, benefits from a credit line of the total amount of 213.500$ valid until 30 of September 2010 for payment of the cash prizes to be paid to the winners of the competition according to the regulation of the ESWC World Cup.

http://www.team-aaa.com/news-15856-0-1-l_eswc_tenterait-il_un_coup_de_bluff.html

So no obligation to pay any cashprize
2010-03-19 12:33:54
+1. all the "guarantee" means is that the company put that amount into a bank account. it doesn't necessarily guarantee anything to the players or how it will be paid out, only that the money is there for ESWC to use as it sees fit.

the cash prizes to be paid to the winners of the competition according to the regulation of the ESWC World Cup.

I believe this states a bit more than "only put into a bank account".
2010-03-19 19:23:41
omg what a huge prize!
2010-03-19 13:15:22
yeaaaahhhhh )) waiting for g7 answer )) very interesting situation - I love ESWC but money is money ))

what a prize
2010-03-19 21:50:31
great
2010-03-19 22:28:56
wow, great! a step in the right direction! Hopefully all other tournaments follow suit. Unbelievable something so simple has not been used in the past.
2010-03-21 03:15:47
All events that can not guarantee that the prize money will be payed SHOULD be boycotted, it's not acceptable to have an event and not pay the money.
2010-03-21 14:08:07
This should have happened in other editions of ESWC.
