The German WCG organiser has indicated that the country's participation at the WCG finals for Counter-Strike is in doubt.

According to a statement issued by WCG Europe, budget cuts from sponsors have put the possibility of sending a German Counter-Strike teams to Los Angeles in the balance.

The costs of sending five players to play one tournament appear to have made the organiser opt to channel its funds elsewhere, given that German teams have recently been on the fringes of the action in WCG events.

Due to the lack of funds to organise a proper LAN qualifier for Counter-Strike in Germany, WCG Europe has announced that the tournament will be played online.

However, it is unknown whether the winner will be assured of a spot at the WCG finals, which will take place at ths Los Angeles Convention Center, in Los Angeles, United States, from September 30 to October 3.

mouz at WCG 2009

Last year, Germany was represented by mousesports, who failed to go beyond the group stages with a roster containing two stand-ins.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that Carom 3D will not be part of Germany's roster for WCG 2010 and that every game except for FIFA will have only one competitor in LA.

Germany's WCG 2010 roster:

3x FIFA 2010
1x Warcraft 3 TFT
1x Starcraft: Broodwar
1x Tekken 6
1x Forza Motorsport 3
1x Guitar Hero 5
1x Trackmania Nations Forever

2010-06-30 18:37:45
What? So they're paying for FIFA 2010 players etc but not CS? That's bullshit.
2010-06-30 18:37:49
because cs teams consist of 5 players i guess so if there is a lack of money it's a better solution to send 5 representatives, each playing different game that just 5 CS players.
2010-06-30 18:43:20
Yeah, that makes sense.
2010-06-30 18:52:35
I think you are right :)
2010-06-30 18:52:38
last year, both German fifa players got 1st and 2nd place, and mouz didnt even go far this and previous year
2010-06-30 21:27:41
ESL bubble preventing german counter-strike teams to build skill that wins them events.

2010-07-01 05:14:13
A+E could not find sponsors for attending ESWC even though qualifiers were held. Its very sad scene here in India regarding attending international events.
2010-07-01 10:02:56
Nah we didn't, that's why only one Nordic team gets all expenses paid, all other teams have to pay for themselves. =)
2010-07-20 14:27:10
So they can afford rescuing budget of greece but not sending their cs team to LA? Ridiculous :D
2010-06-30 19:24:51

2010-06-30 20:29:20
what's the meaning behind WORLD CYBER GAMES, if 3/4 of all countries playing games don't have the money to send their teams to the event.

Wait, it wasn't Beholder to organise travel to Paris for German players, so what's the problem
2010-06-30 20:47:04
Can't edit so I'll reply myself.

I'm really proud of it that i've "read" the news and noticed it's bout organising WCG quals, not about going to Paris to play at ESWC :D
2010-06-30 21:58:08
oh come on, just make a qualifier for German team, mouz or Alternate will surly win, so those two teams can easly pay for their players on their own
2010-06-30 21:30:01
Why would they pay when the expenditure is huge and even if they win WCG the prize money will not be sufficient for covering expenses of a whole team + support staff
2010-07-01 10:04:59
it's mousesports... they got money, and if that was the only chance for their players to attend, I'm sure they would accept it

2010-07-01 07:04:52
How many gold Medals did Russia won @ WCG? ever? of all time? Im sure i can count them on one hand.
2010-07-01 08:39:41
You don't need to count actually :D
2010-07-01 10:05:35
Hey, guy. I don't criticize german teams at all. And did you know that my favourite team for all the time was mouz? I just say that it's wrong position of the german wcg organizer. So relax, guy and hope for a german team at wcg 2010.
2010-07-01 10:42:45
celoZ WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? GERMANY HAVE QUALITY PLAYERS IN FIFA THEN IN CS!!! IF YOU DIDNT KNOW hero HAS PLAYED MORE THAN 7 WCG FINALS AND WHAT ABOUT CS TEAM?
2010-07-01 08:20:43
please dont compare fifa with counterstrike.
2010-07-01 08:53:56
Agree.
2010-07-01 15:41:12
...bad ;f
2010-07-01 08:33:04
kinda similiar to slovenia we have every shitty game on qualifiers but CS, and that goes for ESWC, for WCG we probably won't even have a qualifier... Olympic games my ass..

2010-07-01 09:57:29
This whole WCG'2010 seems to be the most disgustingly run affair. No team from Norway, no team from Finland, no fnatic, no German powerhouse. New Zealand had a qualifier for WCG this year, but it appears thats in trouble since there has been no mention what so ever of their involvement in the final in LA. In Australia the organisers didn't pay for all of the domestic flights they promised to pay for, this was after the players paid their registration fees.

If WCG wanted to cut back on their funding for CS, I would understand. These things are expensive to run. The problem is that they're leading people to believe it's the same event as last year.. When clearly it's not.
