CPL is definitely one of those names that has been through ups and downs ever since it ceased its active operations, back in 2007. Today a new episode in the saga revives the long-lived brand.
Rumours upon rumours, Abu Dhabi investment companies buying out the brand, Tonya Welch launching allegations towards Scott Valencia and many other twists. The story behind the organization definitely held all necessary ingredients for a soap opera. Yet it doesn't stop here.
Out of nowhere, a press release from NewWorld's side today takes the scene by surprise, as both the CPL and CAL brands are now officially passed onto the ownership of WoLong Ventures. NewWorld, the previous administrator of both brands represents the company who lead both organisations during their glory days, having iconic E-sports figures at their helm, such as Angel Munoz.
According to the press release the company is now passed, under a non-disclosure agreement, to Singapore based, WoLong Ventures, an investment and management oriented entity. But the new owning company is no stranger to e-sports, as its CEO is Ryan Schumacher, previously involved in projects like AmpedNews.com and Games Media Properties, once parent company of WSVG.
He noted the following on the acquisition:
"This acquisition is an important component of a larger strategic plan to create powerful experiences across diverse online platforms with an emphasis on entertainment and interactivity. While often imitated, the international success of the CPL brand has yet to be fully replicated."
Although the press release does little to clear up the grey cloud hanging on top of both the CPL and CAL, no further details have been shed as of now. Contacted by HLTV.org, Ryan Schumacher stated that he will happily comment on the situation later during this week. As of now, stick closely with us as we will follow the string of happenings surrounding CPL's rebirth.
its nice to see rich people that invest in eSport!
GO CPL we miss you !

Fuck, Vo0 won $250,000k in the 05 World Tour and he still hasn't gotten a cent of it from them.
mouz's 3rd place finish in 03 Winter still hasn't been paid.
wombat's first prize in 99 in Quake hasn't been paid out either.
I can go on for 12 days. The CPL is full of shit and I hope they fail.

When Gotfrag did an interview at his house he forbid them from taking any pictures. How shady is that? Gotfrag even said that the "low six-figure salary" he'd said he'd been making off CPL couldn't have paid for a mansion, like 8 cars, designer furniture and original paintings.
I asked Angel on his formspring why he hasn't paid people out, and he never answered me back. I asked him on Facebook too, and now he set his facebook to hidden.
Munoz can suck a fat dick for ruining eSports.

A week ago there was a public response to the allegations of non-payment of prizes. Read it before spreading nonsense: http://www.formspring.me/AngelMunoz/q/966715324
They just need to bite the bullet and pay them or there might be a boycott by the G7 teams, even thought they do very little now.
If CPL did pay out the prizes, then why the hell are the all the G7 teams still boycotting the CPL?
I spoke to lurppis recently and he said 2 of his Top 10 placings in CPL with Serious Gaming and 69N-28E haven't been paid out, and never will be.
i jizzed to my pants :D
OH YEAH
CPL POWER
if SpawN back with the new about the CPL
it will be the best year ever ;D

Gotta love the old stuff... I remember when I skipped school just to lie on bed, eat, drink and of course watch The Cyberathlete Professional League !

The new owner was a liar and a scammer, trying to get investors to invest in CPL by saying it was bought up by some gigantic company in the middle east, which was not even true. It was a fake company made by the CPL owner just so it would all look legit.
It looks like he is trying to pull the same trick again only this time with some Asian company....
Please just die in peace CPL and let Arbalet do their job.
