HLTV.org understands that TCM-Gaming member Baljit "zE-" Lal was yesterday assaulted by Ukrainian police outside a club.
The Danish player was asked to show his passport after leaving a club in Kiev and then taken to a police station, located right next to the club, as he did not have the document with him.
The police then asked for money to let Lal go, but upon learning he did not have any with him, they punched the player twice, releasing him about 30 minutes later.

zE- assaulted by Ukrainian policemen
mousesports star Roman "roman" Ausserdorfer was also questioned by the police after leaving the same club, but avoided further trouble as he paid the men.
"Because my passport was at the hotel, I had to pay the police ("money under the table") if I did not want to be placed in a small "prison room" overnight," he said on his Facebook wall.
"They did not accept driver's licence or any other personal documents."
hum.

i don't know for ukraine, ive never been there, but ive been in bulgaria/serbia/romania and you know what? after 2 day i always had a bundle of 5 euros bills near to me to not waste my time talking with those f**king retarded cops :)
basically he was a foreigner and they knew they could take advantage of him
sucks tho
as for the states. ive had problems with cops in texas (el paso) and boston
a friend of mine actually had to call the cops for some reason and they stole from him (cash off of the coffee table)
shameful but true

in Argentina cops do the same, they ask for money,
FUCKING COPS
Post edited 2011-01-23 21:00:19
Chinese cops are really nice to foreigners, but they dont do their job very well, also bad,but at least they dont ask money from tourist.
Post edited 2011-01-23 21:01:24
and yes they are,but not only them,it's became socialable like everyone do that (not only cop,but doctor, teacher ,ect). So i dont think that's their fault.Another thing,at least they wont beat tourist like ukrainian police.
However of course there's that Chinese saying:
"Come to Shanghai and see how hard-working the Chinese are, come to Beijing and see how corrupt the Chinese are".

thank god
2. Police can be a douche sometimes...
This incident can NEVER be his fault as it's the Ukranian police fucked up ways that get him beaten up.
He doesn't have the money to pay them of, so they beat him instead, and becides are you telling me that he should be grateful that he didn't end up worse than he did? are you fucking kidding me?
1)It was mistake not to have passport in foreign country, because it is not legal to be in other country without it, and police can't know if he is there to play cs tournament or to kill someone.
2)I don't approve police AT ALL!!! If they done what he claims they did they should be legally reported and punished for they'r behaver.
3)AND I can't quite understand all this people flaming on Ukrainian nation. The story allays has 2 sides (not accusing anyone) and how da fu*k we all know what happened exactly?
2)Yes it's fucked up but i don't see anyone here saying "just a cop being a douche" thats good.
3)Don't accuse police of doing something that you are not sure they did!!! You weren't there you don't know what really happened.
Post edited 2011-01-23 23:14:27
He probably was going to! He might would've killed You!
I surely hope all cops will start out hitting people randomly.
That way there would never be any killings. Right?
That ofcourse after collecting their pocket money, ensuring they won't go buy any nuclear pocket weapon.
I think You should punch yourself twice - I mean you have to start somewhere?
2)I don't approve police AT ALL!!! IF they done what he claims they did they should be legally reported and punished for they'r behaver.
Only came to troll here, read for a change retard!
Post edited 2011-01-24 10:14:32
Stop the troll-alarm. It's a cheap comeback. If You understood the irony you would be able to see that it actually responds directly to your point no. 1 on this case. Ironicly ofcourse.
And yes, you are trolling by letting your rage out in posts that don't have truth to back them up, like in #564 where you clearly are mad and just want to write as much rubbish as you can...
As it didn't go to court, you're right in the fact that zE's statements have no legal backup. This said I still find it fair to assume it's true, since zE has no interests in lying on this matter - furthermore compared to the probability of a Ukranian policeman blackmailing some tourist.
I know this is a sensible subject, so I'll clear it right now: I have nothing at all against Ukranians nor eastern europeans.
This summer I went to Albania, Montenegro and Serbia. In Belgrade we actually met a policeman trying to write us a parking ticket without any fair reason. We kept discussing and he agreed letting us drive on - actually ending up giving directions for the quite chaotic city - the hell, we even shoke hands.
And I'm definately going to Serbia and Albania again - Guča was really awesome!
It's just a fact that less stable and in some cases poor countries have a higher rate of police corruption. Sad but true.
I'll be more careful in future, writing ironic replies.

best regards...
Thats not only for EU but for all countries (like Serbia) that are not in the EU but have some kind of agreement whit it.
Anyway, Poland is too poor to organise that kind of event. Have you ever heard of any tournament held in Poland where there were any foreign teams? Only Cybersport Pan Tournament in 2009 with top female teams, nothing else.

He put in jail people who participated in a protest against rigging of presidential elections for 10-15 years
but you must have a passport, the police have reason to think that you're an illegal Immigrant. They are just looking for easy money.
That kind of stuff happens here everyday.
Balle really is a nice guy :)

I know a lot of Ukrainian immigrants living/studying/working in Portugal, and their problems with the law enforcement is 0, ok ? and they are living here for more than 10 years. and where never physically abused by the police whatsoever.
--
PLUS he was on vacations, having fun on a nightclub, ffs. IN EUROPE.
btw. Last IEM at Germany some local guys beat and robber one of Ukrainian player. And Nixon was robbed in US. so...
I remember one, I think it was in China, but I am not sure, and fx [mym then] were drinking with fntaic [I think] and Luq came out of the pub and some guys beaten hiss ass, and later the fnatic [or SK, dont remeber] guys helped him.
Post edited 2011-01-23 18:26:51
dude, he is just like "a tourist", for example when I'm going to European country or "wanna be European country" (like Ukraine)I just want to walk, see something, take some photos and I think there is no reason why I should speak local language if I know English, it's 21st century.
an american player was mugged in germany, but he was trying to buy drugs. he put himself in that position. :p
#47 +1

If it happen in Spain, you will laugh in the policeman face and he would be fucked up after all if he try to take your moeny -_-
I`m not saying our police is always well intentioned but i assure you it`s not like in Ukraine.
It's not your fault mate... and I don't want you to feel bad. You didn't chose were to live, so it's not your fault and I won't never say someone is lower than me because he lives in "worse" country.
It is just crazy, and many people still think that... I feel sorry for them, because the "lower ones" are they.
It's strange, how big difference still we have between some countries that belong to EU.
even in usa things can go the same way, maybe w\o face mashing, but still. don't walk around without your passport, especially when you are in different country and have different skin color
Probably the agents saw that they weren't Ukrainians and took advantage of that.
He doesnt have to apologise because something happened in his country. It's like a finland guy kill someone and you have to say sorry for that becasue you are from that country. And I mean "sorry" like apologise, not the "sorry" like "I am so sorry"
WHAT ARE YOU WANT?????
IDIOT's : they go to ukraine and don't know this things....OMG
:S
but such an incident is more likely to happen in the poorer countries.
i hope once there will come a time, where the human beings all over the world does not only care about their own wealth and their own advantage, but see that the whole live is, in a simplified way, not more than football/soccer, counter strike or any other "team game"....its all about teamplay, the human race will only grow if they understand this, despite skin colour, origin, religion, or any other superficial aspect.
for what ? :DDDD
I think police did that because they knew zE- played at Terrorist last day, and they thought he was a terrorist, possible ;o
It's so bad :s
I have my friends studying over in Russia and Ukraine , they say there are lot of skinheads who attack brown and black people and the police also treat them badly.
If ZE was white maybe then the police wouldn't have assaulted him.

EDIT: Oh yes...and if I didn't know Baljit I'd say that maybe he rejected to cooperate or something like that, but he's a very very nice lad and I'm really sad it has happened to him. Hopefully nothing serious.
Post edited 2011-01-23 18:48:17
fuck the cops
but its german, dunno whether you understand it.
"corrupt and shit country, sad that it wasnt destroyed"
before that he tells something about his meeting with the police.
if you travel to our country and see them. please kill them by knife or smthng like this :)
He did not have money, it wasn't his fault.I don't understand how beating him up is an alternative for not having money or passport.
P.S-Yes maybe he should have carried his passport when leaving his place since its a foreign country. But isn't passport safer at home? :|
In any case, zE should handle this case to police station with help of some native speakers. And roman should assist him in doing it of course.

pasha spends way to much time working out... and sunbedding
yes, but in ukraine policemans (people in general) earns ~100-150$ per month or even less. spain or portugal (espacially portugal) was the same s*ithole ~20 years ago, before they joined to the eu...
And believe me it was EVEN BETTER without the Euro money.
Portugal was bad, when it was a f*cking dictatorship, where everyone except higher social classes, didn't have the means to support a family
20 years ago Portugal was one of the richest countrys of the world. In Portugal nobody dies with ungry. Not now, not 20 years ago. Gold from Brasil, Diamonds from Angola etc etc...
Post edited 2011-01-23 20:58:59
Portugal only have economics problems nowadays, 20 years ago was one of the best countrys of Europe to live!
it was really stupid..

In Portugal we have a lot of Ukrains building houses etc etc, its a bad signal and image from ur country.
I would be happy change anything in my shitty country.
It is Shame

And before you all start juding the police - remember it was after the club, that danish guy was prolly super drunk. Maybe he even said something to provoke that hit? It's a onesided story - don't forget that!
zE and roman should have turned to the cyberarena staff after this case. I'm sure those retards would be at least fired.

It's quite sad though that the effects of the Soviet Union's corruption are still seen in ex-Soviet countries.
Forget about entering a Pub or having alcoholic beverages in a public place if your under 18.
although i got pretty fucked up in midsummer fest ^^
Lies. Didn't have to show my ID once when I was visiting Finland for Assembly Winter!

1hit K0 for policefags:D
in our country Policemen are affraid of aresting Gipsys because they would YELL: xenofobia, rasism...and they would have problems :)
so in our country Gipsys can make allmost everything without fear of being arrested :D
so sad, but true
But I cant agree with you with one point..
Almost 95% of czech people REALY HATE gipsys :)
(nothing against asians, afroamericans,...)
And there is HUUUUUUGE difference between Czech republic and Ukraine. I realy know the difference, because I have family in UA (ukraine), and as a foreigner you must have around 100 dollars allways with you - just for the case, when you meet policemen.
This doest not appear in Czech rep.

fuck the police, how about the girls? :D
=D most of other girls at that place are kinda "hoe" too, they would love you so much if you have money :')
Post edited 2011-01-24 11:11:32
What are you talking about? Are you mad? an idiot?
Lots of Ukrainian,Russian etc girls were deceptioned, and as a result they were compeled by force to work in that "industry of entartainment". People, perhaps like you or not, just come to public house and say: "I want something special, beautiful young girl, especially from Urkaine or Russia" Isn't it?
but shaved one :)
Wish a good recover to zE.
But the coin has it's other side. Let's say that ukrainian visa in your passport has expired a week ago and you try to leave the country. Here in Ukraine you'll need to pay smth like 50-200$ to custom officer and the case will be closed right there with no departation nor 'persona non grata' stamped in your passport.
Life is simple ;D
Ukraine - to the Europe Union ! xD
Post edited 2011-01-24 16:16:50
always hated this country ukraine
and btw you can put your hate deeper in you fat ass.
Life here is pretty ok. I can say that as i lived in UK, in Israel and in Germany. But girls are most beautiful in Ukraine.
Remember one thing - the ONLY goal of police is forcing you to pay them money via cheating, threatening, assaulting, aressting and using blackmail.Every tourist have money according to their logic. Avarage salary of ukrainian policeman is about $250-300 and they catching every opportunity to 'earn' more using their police status. It's 100% true.
They can catch you with 5g (legal amount) of Marihuana, force you to confess about more grammes about trading drugs and they can add more 'fake' crimes you didn't perform by forcing sign papers (if you refuse to sign they may beat you or (more often) impacting on your psychic by jaling you for some days in bad conditions with dummy persons (ex-prisoners).
And after it you'll try to pay them for your release and canceling you fake 'crimes'. The amount of money eq about price of good euro automobile and somitemes more. Many Ukrainian police officers have good cars
(that they unable to but for the their legal salary), cotteges, their children, wife or lovers feel good. Actually those people rob and assault (not guard as it have to be by the law) their citizen.
Post edited 2011-01-24 17:09:55
They can hit girls and old men...
sad
Post edited 2011-01-24 17:24:45
Our policemen always try to get money from foreign persons, since them don't know Ukrainian law. But our laws like the laws in EU, but the policemen don't obbey them...
For Lal now the best option to write an application into internal police security devision. It will help to fight for the human rights in Ukraine. This news already got resonanse in our press, so they will not ignore it.
Hahaha =D
Anyway, we're living in a shit, that's 100% true =\
Tip: Tourist have to learn distignish 'bad/bidlo*' and good/open minded/modern people in Ukraine. There are some amount of hornest open-good-minded people in Ukraine and 'bidlo'*. Visiting Ukraine try to find a man/girl guide from you online friends, trust enlish speaking, modern/free looking/wearing young people (16-2*). Grey jackets - avoid them.
*'Bidlo' (slang) that has unique and local meaning. Other nearest words by the meaning for 'bidlo' are zombies/masses/animals/slaves ie primitive, limited people with animal behavior, needs and mind level. Some people argued that they are 70% of Ukrain population.

In the USA some still say that russian (as well as ukrainian) people use caps with ear-flaps (ushanka), and bears walk on a city and no one cares.
But i know many 'cool' things and stories about russian\ukrainian people living abroad. :)

Common ppl don't be so shy saying that we now live in police country with bandits at goverment, clans intereses, high level of poverty and corruption, mind and body degradation amoung some layers of human beings.
I'm almost 30 single and it's kinda time when you see very clear whats going on around indeed. You're mostly young (16-22) and you feel more happy and kinda 'if got no problems - its ok for all' + low XP. You know kids are very happy by themselfs cause they are kids. They can live in jungle and be happy.
Relatevly good opportunies for EVERYTHING, good health, everything is interesting - you're are happy playing online games, bmx-ing, having fun with friends, till the day when you realize that EXTERNAL factors cheating you health ammo and armour. Realize you can live much more better IF..Did we see other life? How many of you (ukrainians) were
traveling around the world?
"but in Eu is better than here"
Sure better about some things. You cannot be assaulted for nothing! ) and more

In a reality, this happens everywhere, human rights are abused on daily basis everywhere, however, in some countries it is more open. In USA, I mean cops would never do that, ass they know better, that if you report them, they are fked. In Ukraine, on the other side, police gets away with this stuff, as mentality is different there and people usually just pay, so they won't be bothered.
