Evil Geniuses have announced changes to their North American team with the change of two members.
The pioneer of North American Counter-Strike, team Evil Geniuses, have not been participating in any tournaments since their first place finish in the ESEA Invite Season 8 Playoff and question marks have in recent times rose as to what is going on with the team.
Today we got the answers, as the North American-based organization announced changes to the Counter-Strike team, waving goodbye to Danny "fRoD" Montaner and Tyler "Storm" Wood. The reason behind the move was not commented on in the announcement by EG.
The duo joined EG back December 2008, after being a part of compLexity since mid-2004, including the time spent playing Counter-Strike: Source in CGS. The duo has been playing side-by-side since 2004 and will to continue to do so, following their departure from EG, as they are believed to join a new team soon.
"I just wanted to thank Evil Geniuses for all the support they gave us throughout the years. They helped us through roster changes and mixed tournament results, but always supported us through it all. We’ve decided that it would be best for the both of us to start fresh. I’m looking forward to where the coming months take Tyler and I." - Danny "fRoD" Montaner said on EG's website.
Joining EG is Paul "pauLy" Guerboyan, who has been praised by the US community for a very long time, his arrival in EG is what the community have been waiting for. Guerboyan joins from the US SK team, which he joined last month, following the disbandment of Fear Factory.

The second member joining is Jeff "hero" Mettetal, who played for compLexity in 2010, but has since then not been featured in a stable team.
Evil Geniuses now have the following lineup:
Andrew "Irukandji" Timmerman
Derek "dboorN" Boorn
Jeff "hero"Mettetal
Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert
Paul "pauLy" Guerboyan
The new Evil Geniuses squad will have their debut at 05:00 against Good Guys on de_russka in the ESEA S9 Invite Division, where they are currently with five wins and two losses, taking fourth place in the rankings.

I just imagine the opportunity of playing with fr0d under the coL name, anybody would leave a team.
Take pauLy for example.
Did you notice that I said "free agents"? Are Backfire guys good enough to play with froD?
Besides, they're gonna need a strong IGL, like Drew or Naz, and I'm afraid there's no other like them out there.
Sorry, seems, at least to me, very unlikely.
Well, at least dizzaman could cover fRoD's expectations, if he has any.
fRoD needs two players like n0thing and lurppis IF he wants to build a good team, if it's for fun only, count on me!
iruk, hero, and db have years of experience playing together in the past years, including internationally with the x3o/coL lineups. they have amazing chemistry, and are insanely intelligent and clutch players with great aim. n0thing and pauLy are hands down the two best riflers in the US right now. those guys are pure frag, and on top of that theyre both extremely smart as well.
now before the fanboat im riding on floats off into the sunset, i just wanna give the tldr and say that this is the best possible lineup out of every combination of top NA players (fuck thoMz none of the players on EG talk to him anymore, and they have pauLy instead).
these guys are going to be a team that wants to impress eachother constantly. theyre all on the same wavelength and will have a hunger to win that the last EG team hasn't had since lurppis/gfn. assuming this team puts in a significant amount of time and effort preparing for estars, and are able to click to anywhere near their potential, youll see them playing solid cs with international teams by their first event.
fuck it, im psyched to see them play ;]

Cant wait to watch these guys play the top teams @ E-stars.
In any case fRoD shoots better than hero, but hero is still an incredible player. he fits better with the current players, and takes a much more active ingame role than fRoD. hero assists in lots of decision making and helps keep the team tight and organized.
when it comes down to it, you can't compare fRoD to hero in this scenario, because two positions were filled, not just 1. i personally like the idea of hero PLUS pauLy over fRoD AND Storm.
the old EG lineup seemed to rely too much on fRoD and n0thing, and often fell apart if either player was lost early in the round. Storm flaked at a few big tournaments recently. Now EG has the kind of lineup where any player is fully capable of converting a round in EG's favor in many situations.
what i will say is that dboorN has to find his killer instinct and realize how good he actually is for this team to gel properly. gl to EG ;]
that's some killer instinct, -19, 2-19. Don't make false statements :)
pauly for storm is a direct improvement, and last I saw from hero he was at least as good as frod was lately, but i havent seen jeff play for over halve a year so not sure wether or not he is still in topshape?
But anyway, they have n0thing in their side now.
Since lurppis departure, EG were never the same, and thats counting that they never win anything (or just a tournament, I don't remember so well).
but i still think that fRoD is aw'som awper and rifler too
Irukanji is one of my favorite igls and he's good aimer too
<3 n0thing, no comments
i liked hero's skill at coL.us, but i havent seen a lot of pauLy's povs, is he good?
Hero is probably still as good/almost as good as fRoD and pauLy is better than Storm so it's a good trade in the end. Especially since I don't think fRoD and Storm had much motivation left.
He played most of the current ESEA season not even on an invite team, instead pugging around ESEA main, and only had a .8 fpr.
Storm
Xp3
dizzaman
hiko
GL in coL

what team does he play for?
Eventually he came back under the agreement he'd take the leadership of the team. Pretty much immediately he cut the former leader along with two of the starters.
As soon as the next season started, it was him and three new players in invite (he had to keep one from the original dwg because esea requires two starters from the previous season or else the team loses its invite spot, the other being himself).
The new players knew he had done the original team wrong, so they tricked him into giving up leadership and cut him.
So where is tubby? He's not playing for anyone anymore, and no one but a couple long-time friends will even pug with him since he screwed over dwg.
Tubby's days of playing on any real team are over.
its the end of EG and i think for american cs, if they wouldnt find new team. only n0thing and irukandji cant cluth the rest of EG D:

pauLy > storm though
goodluck paul, a well deserved chance

+ fRoD
and EG hasn't practiced in months because the rest can't get along with frod
so even though good on paper, it would never work
most of u never watched a single demo of him , u know him from sick actions (couple of them) tho he is of the best awp in USA so , hats off.
Hero and pauly are decent subs , they will need time but just practice ! gl boyz
until he gets dboorn to cut anyone who he doesn't like or thinks is under-performing, like he did on coL
i hope so anyway because this team looked pretty good vs. gg. yeah gg was pugging it (or it looked that way), but EG's communication looked spot on, and in general they were working well together.
I get they didn't want to play with frod because of his attitude, but they traded him for someone with an even worse attitude.
Throw on top of that that the Complexity organization didn't like dboorn and hero that kept wanting to change players, and former coL players (e.g., evolution) said it was hero who was responsible for ruining the team. How is it going to be any different with EG?
This team is three coL players (hero, dboorn, iru), a new player to the team (pauLy), and n0thing. Obviously the coL unit is going to have the biggest influence in what the team does. n0thing doesn't have any of frod/storm/lurpis/gfn to back him up in stopping future roster changes.
As it turned out, the team Alice left got voted into invite, so he's on an invite team this season, but hasn't played a match yet and hasn't played to play in the league, so he probably won't. Here's the team if you're curious http://esea.net/teams/47087. If you check gfn's stats, he hasn't played much since being cut from EG.
It might be cool to see them together again, but it doesn't look too likely.
I said that because they did a little amrcian LAN together few days ago.
But basically the whole NA cs scene revolves around ESEA. It is the only league, and no one pugs outside of it. WCG US and IEM qualifiers are the only big lans, and small lans are usually very small, like word-of-mouth type things, not something a team will travel very far for. This is especially true outside of southern California and Texas.
So, generally one can tell the status of a player by what they're doing on ESEA. If they're not playing much on ESEA, they aren't playing much :)
...just in case you wanted to know :)
What's the Anticheat on ESEA ?
TRUE STORY! :)
SAD day 4 American CS :(
and American CS has been dead for a while.
pauLy is a young player and is extremely talented and is probably one of the or is the next best fragger after n0thing in the USA.
The biggest mystery is how good hero will be.
gl EG with your new roster
imo, it's a very bad moove for EG, and a really great one for the ex-backfire if they achieve to find a solid organization.
However, it's going to mess the whole North-American scene, for sure.
--SK.US loses by far their best fragger in pauLy, and right now they have no fifth on their roster. They lost their last couple of matches, so it's important for them to get some wins if they want a good seed in esea-invite playoffs, or perhaps to even make it. (I'd like to see thomz or evolution join. It'll never happen, but if they cut alice and picked up both, that would be a really good team. )
--Assuming coL is actually coming back and will be frod, storm, hiko, dizza, and xp3, that's a whole new top tier team.
--EG was hoarding talent (top fraggers in n0thing and dboorn, top awp in frod, top caller in irukandji, and perhaps most importantly, they all have good international lan experience), so is potential for two teams doing damage internationally (that's assuming coL picks up frod and storm). It also means, hopefully, that EG has some national competition.
--Assuming hiko, xp3, and dizzaman join coL, BackFire will probably go back to their original lineup, having to find three new starters (I'm kind of psyched to see this because even though their current one is nice, it was cool to see real-life friends become a top US team; BF was a local lan team of friends originally)
Interesting times ahead.
is the new awper good enough to replace fr0d?
maybe us counterstrike gets big again
But to summarize, he is very good, and some consider him better than frod, others #2 to frod. The only problem is he has a huge attitude and was responsible for coL cutting players all the time.
EG: n0thing irukandji pauLy hero dboorn
vs
GG: rockyte ninespot mehler bEN wilson1g
NICE!!!
very excited about this new lineup. great caller in Drew, sick awper in hero and three crazy aimers in n0thing, dboorN and pauLy.
Now that they've split up, look at the long term. They will be able to nurture up and coming cs players who they play with next. A perfect example is pauLy, who many people (me included) have been dying to see get some international experience. Now he will be on a team with four players who have that experience, under an organization willing to send them abroad to lans.
Assuming coL does pick up frod and storm's new team, that will mean there is another organization sponsoring an American team for international events. The more there are, the better for American CS. Since coL destructed, EG has been the top team by far, which resulted in them not ever practicing; Lurppis has said they pretty much pug through each ESEA Invite season, yet they've won the last four in a row. They got lazy because they could get away with it. By splitting EG up, now there are a couple different top-tier teams competing, so they can't rest on their laurels and will be forced to get better in their team play. Once they get better, they will do better internationally.
And "nationally", more competition makes it more interesting, which should invigorate the community.
UNLESS THEY START A NEW TEAM, thank god...source is terribad

frod was always an important player. everytime frod played good EG won. and otherwise.
With EG is dead i have also to agree. on a international level they would need at least another year together to even compete on that level. I mean pauly is a great player but he lacks experience on that level. hero was back in the days with col a sick machine. but i doubt he will get this shape again.
the szene is clearly dying :-(
I hope they prove me wrong at e-stars

With dizzaman and hiko leaving backfire and pauly leaving SK.usa, teams are reorganizing.
I noticed tyson, impsta, djibouti, steno and che are playing together in scrims. personally I think they need an awper like sgares.
this isnt as good as some guys think.

sorry I really don't know much about the US scene.
The nice things about adding him are irukandi and dboorn played with him a long time, so the three of them will work well together right from the start, and he is a better rifler than frod, which is important because you can't always afford an awp and not on all maps is it helpful. I think Hero will be better on CT side of nuke than fRoD, for instance, and he tends to play right where frod did, above ladder.
gl fRoD .. one of the few ppl who could still compete through out all the eras of cs 1.6

Sad for EG they lost lurrpis one good igl and then gfn the man whit all the experience in the world and now storm that has all the experience in the world + fRoD top3 sniper in the world and nr1 in USA.. and after all the changes they use good players from semi-pro teams that can't show the diference and have very low experience at worldwide turnaments JUST SAYNG.

UMX > anyteam in america now
sorry but thats the truth
They've also lost two of their last three played ESEA invite matches and lost recently at a small, local lan.
When they embarrass themselves at eStars, remember this comment of yours.
imo (and a lot of people seem to think this way) dboorn's work since joining EG has been underwhelming, and i have never understood why that was the case. at first it could be written off as being the new player trying to fit into an older team, but as time when on, and as they added irukandji, he didn't really pick his game up.
that's not to say he has been playing horribly; he just hasn't been as big of an influence in their matches as expected.
frod and storm best than pauly and HERO? who is hero
EG !!!!!!!! leave e-Stars pleace
and firegamers go go go go
ridiculous team

fRoD is best than hero ! and u know
Post edited 2011-07-29 02:51:16
go go go go
They have a good efficient awper with hero who is quickly getting back onto the team.
dBoorn and Irukandji are both great support players who have international experience.
Irukandji is a good in-game leader and he knows his players and is really comfortable with them.
pauLy and n0thing are both nutty fraggers who will have their space to run around and frag which they do and they'll have the support of dboorn and Irukandji. pauLy will learn fast playing next to n0thing and practicing with n0thing.
If they get their chemistry together I can see this team doing fairly well even as soon as e-stars even though it's unlikely.
this team can be VERY good
Post edited 2011-07-28 22:52:00
Hoping for fRoD and Storm to keep playing in another team, would be very nice to see multiple US teams capable of competing on an international level.
and dont tell me slip or flow lol
He's a great support rifler behind pauly and n0thing and between Irukandji and Hero they have great chemistry from playing years together.
this is what happened the last time they met
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI9oyBuTLwA
ok n0thing, what you gonna do? :D
Anyways, Good luck in the future Danny and Tyler, wish you all the best of luck !
