mTw release Counter-Strike team

The German organization mTw has announced the release of their Danish Counter-Strike division.

It has been looming for quite some time now, that the end of the Danish flagship mTw was to come to an end. First, with the retirement of Alexander "ave" Holdt, then with the unsuccessful attempt to find a new fifth and going into the IEM6 Global Challenge New York, seeing Danny "zonic" Sørensen tweet: "It all ends in New York".

Today, the German organization announced via their website, that the Danish team has been released. The Danish team has since mid-December 2007 represented the German organization, following a merger with NoA.

As any other team, the Danes had their ups and downs, but will be remembered for their dominant 2008 year, as well as a solid team to reach the podium and in most recent times as the eternal runners-up. The last tournament under the mTw tag was the IEM6 Global Challenge New York, where the Danes managed a third place finish. 


The Danish mTw squad is no more

In an interview published on mTw's website, Danny "zonic" Sørensen states that he doesn't see himself playing anything but Counter-Strike 1.6 and currently have no offers from teams lined up. About his retirement, Sørensen states:

"When I first wrote it, I actually decided to retire alongside ave, but I have had the time to think and I don't really think I'm done yet."

mTw had the following lineup:

Alexander "ave" Holdt
Danny "zonic" Sørensen
Martin "trace" Heldt
Timm "ArcadioN" Henriksen
Oliver "minet" Minet

A fact is that the only player retired is Alexander "ave" Holdt, whether we will see more players call it quits is at this time not known.

One of the days that cs scene has never wanted to see. Cs isn't the same as it was in 2008/9/10.. we just can hope that some guys new, refreshing would give a little life in this fucking unbelievable game, to make cs scene breath and be full of life as it was in past few years or so.

It has been a joy traveling and experience the world with mTw since 2008, something I truly will never forget. Playing with them in New York, has to be one of the most surreal things for me, having stood behind the team for years and all of a sudden I was there, in the seat playing.

I hope it won't be the last we've seen from these guys, yet I fear it.

Im very sorry to say it, but i really think this is the end for danish counter-strike. I know we got anexis and now some clanless mtw players as well, but i dont think its realistic for Denmark to get a top 5 team again.

If all or most of the mTw players quit, I guess you'll end up like Norway did when almost a whole generation of top players quit at the same time. You'll have a top placing team from time to time, but eventually it will turn into nostalgicalism.

perhaps more rounds than when ave was calling the strats? No? I thought so.

arcadion is by far their weakest link, teams like SK and NaVi won games by focusing the side that arcadion covers on every map and that was always a huge disadvantage to mTw.

I'd recommend you to follow your own advice.

1.6 is losing sponsorships hardcore. Along with problems involving tournaments not paying out their winners (which is happening more and more frequently) the future is not good for CS. And mousesports, Alternate, MYM and EG are on the same level like SK and fnatic to send their teams to every tournament they want. MYM don't have a cs team atm, but they could support a big team easily with Puma and Digital Western

This sucks so hard, i missed watching mTw @ ESWC.
And i think they haven't got the deserved attention since 2008. Just because they didn't win everything they still ended in top 3 EVERY SINGLE tournament not like other teams that maybe win 1 event and doesn't make it to the playoffs the next.

I really hope that they form a new team, and get some new sponsors/organisation. Good luck, one of my favorit teams since 2006.

Things like this are going to continue to happen as this game gets older and older and its proof that we need a new game. Personally, I played this game purely for the fun of competing and here in North America its not fun anymore because the only competition is the same 5-6 teams. I have to imagine that the game is getting boring even for the top level players with so little teams putting up resistance in events. The truth of that matter is becoming more and more the case as this game gets older and as we all get older and more people leave the game.

You Euro's may not see it yet but take a hint from a North American player like myself. The future is grim as more players quit and this game is going to become less fun for you when you realize that you're playing the same teams over and over again and there isn't anything shocking you or really pushing you to your limit in terms of practicing and getting better.

CS:GO is seriously what we need but in its current state its a joke but I think we as players have an obligation to have an open mind about the game and try and make it better. Let me repeat myself. We need to help Valve make it better. We don't need to make it like 1.6 but we need to make it better.

Cast aside the mentality that the only way to play Counter-Strike is if its in the state of 1.6 because its just not true. When 1.5 came out, peopled had the mentality that 1.3 was the only way, when 1.6 came out, people thought the AWP was unusable compared to 1.5 and that the riot shield was going to break the game but here we are. Just have an open mind and contribute to making a better competitive game because in terms of developing a new Counter-Strike, there is literally no one better for the job than Valve and their willingness to listen to us is so valuable.

You clearly don't know Valve if that's what you think. Valve has consistently does things for the community. Unlike Ubisoft or EA, they still promote the modding community by hosting mods off of Steam itself and they hire their employees from the community.

Valve is probably the most philanthropic mainstream developer. When Portal 2 was releasing they knew that indie games were going to take a hit in sales because people would be buying Portal 2 instead of the indie games so they collaborated with the indie developers and added content to their games and ran the potato sack deal to encourage people to buy the indie developers games.

While I agree that Valve wants money because they are a business and that is the root of all businesses but your ideology fails when you consider that they are willing to scrap games like Half-Life 2 and Episode 3 to start from scratch to make a better product. The insurmountable amount of money they've spent on developing games and then never releasing them because they didn't reach a certain standard.

You have a terrible image of them because of Counter-Strike Source but you forget that Counter-Strike Source was nothing more than Valve flaunting the Source engine tech. When CS:S first came out, it was not intended to be a fully fledged game. It was just Valve showing the capabilities of the Source engine for modders by showing how easy it was to port over a Counter-Strike into the Source engine to encourage people to mod on their new engine. It was only when so many people start playing and buying Counter-Strike Source that they started updating it and making it more of a fully fledged game. CS:S when it originally released only had de_dust and one model per team, their intention was never to make a new competitive game, it just ended up taking off because so many people bought it and so many mainstream gamers enjoyed it.

Gabe Newell spoke at the Games For Change conference and most of what Valve does is for the benefit of the gaming industry. Of course they are a business and their priority will always include money but to compare them to Ubisoft or EA is a joke.

a lot of known 1.6 players tried running away from the bad game and switching to source and failed miserably (getright, snajdan, driim off the top of my head). no source player had ever tried switching to 1.6, that's because the game's bad.

mTw.dk have always been so close to win tournaments, but almost always failed, this have been going for so long.

eSports organization mTw officially announced about disbandance of their counter-strike 1.6 team mTw.dk.

It all started when Alexander ‘ave’ Holdt informed community about completing his CS career. zonic also was close to doing the same and he posted in Twitter “It all ends in New York”. But later he commented that he had such thoughts, but now he has changed his opinion and open for offers from other teams.

Gamers played under mTw clan tag for 3 years with minor changes in line-up and won a lot of titles, especially in 2008. Last tournament for mTw became IEM 6 Global Challenge New York where Danes took 3rd place with stand-ins Turkizh (in playoff) and Nix0n (in group stage).

Organization mTw is not planning to have CS 1.6 team anymore and will concentrate on other esports disciplines.

Later, Oliver ‘minet’ Minet informed his fans that he completed his CS career as well. He didn’t participate at IEM NY GC, due to illness on those days.

Looks like Arcadion, trace and zonic will play for other teams and there is a gossip that trace and zonic will join fnatic.

Bad day for CS. mTw was so great team and changed game a lot. Their attitude to teamplay and tactics was most professional. Goodluck IRL though.
