WCG enters playoff stage

Twenty-five teams have been reduced to just sixteen, with the group stage finalized, it is time to move into the playoffs at World Cyber Games 2011.

The group stage has finished and things went as expected, at least concerning the teams favoured to go deep in the tournament. Nine teams have been eliminated from the tournament, with the top two ranked teams from each group advancing to the playoffs, which will be played best-of-three maps, in a single-elimination bracket.

Four of the eight round of 16 matches will be played today at 09:00, giving us the following matchups:

DTS vs. Virtus.pro
SK Gaming
 vs. TyLoo
mandic
 vs. N38-26F
Moscow Five
 vs. project_kr

The remaining four matches, will be played Saturday, kicking off at 02:00, those matches will see following teams face off:

Electronic Sahara vs. Executioners
ESC Gaming vs. Defining Stars
ENTiTY vs. NEXT
IGG
 vs. FiRENATION

Quarter-finals will be played 05:00 Saturday, semi-finals scheduled for 08:00 and the Grand Final, as well as third place decider, will both be played Sunday at 03:30.

nice, but kinda unfair to dreamteam users who choosed yesterday a lots of ESC players, i thought that the both playoff stages was going to play on same day.. now users with sk players can easily switch them to another players tomorrow if you are going to open the transfer market.. that kinda sucks for me atleast.. :E

This is surely one of the very few times when the Polish guys are on the better (weaker) part of the bracket. I'd love to see SK how will manage as they will meet DTS in the 1/4 and either mandic or M5 in the semi.

Aren't they weak comparing to meeting fnatic early? I remember they lost on purpose and finished as 2nd in group stage so they can avoid fnatic. Correct me if i'm wrong.

They lost to Tyloo in group stage, thus they avoided meeting fnatic but it is yet to be discovered if it was made on purpose. I really doubt it.

I think you can easily see that I wrote "...one of the very few times..."
I can bet that in 70% of tournaments they've been in the so called either group of death or bracket of death. But definitely you have to beat the best to be the best ;)

Yeah I know what u mean. They've been to group of death in PGS period several times I guess and at that time it was mainly due to the ridiculous no-seeding draw of WCG.

Anyone who've seen the games of FN against mandic and Ti in their group will understand why FN will hopefully beat IGG and ENTiTY/NEXT. As for Executioners I just wish them luck to do a little sensation.

What about the final match? I personally think that Poland is very strong at the moment, but a huge part of my soul also wants GTR and f0rest to win their first WCG title :p

Seen f0rest IRL on KODE5 Russia 2008, can't say that I licked his balls. We just exchanged handshakes and did a little chatting and that's all.

If you have a fanboy soul, it is not my problem dude :) I am just a CS supporter and an ex-SK worker, maybe that's why I support them.
