Although he only played in four major tournaments during 2011, Karl-William "kalle" Haraldsen managed to impress so much in that time that he could be named the revelation of the year. The only Norwegian in our list was actually statistically the most dominant player, showing that he has the potential to become one of the world's elite, but due to so few appearances he was placed at the 11th spot.

Karl-William "kalle" Haraldsen is not really a new name in the scene, as he's been attending international LAN tournaments with Norwegian top teams since 2009, starting with ESWC Asia Masters in Korea where he went as part of alchemists. During that year and throughout 2010, he gathered a lot of international experience while being a part of teams such as Lions, cbteam and .no as they tried to make a breakthrough.
However, Haraldsen was never the first star of his teams in that period and they never amounted to any major success, so he went by largely unnoticed, appearing as just another average player. Therefore, no one could have foretold the explosion that was about to happen in 2011.
Becoming a star
At the start of the year, a new alchemists lineup was formed and along with Haraldsen and three of his countrymen, Swedish superstar Andreas "MODDII" Fridh was added, which hinted that they had serious intentions.
Their first tournament together was a local one, HadeLAN in Norway, which they won over Swedish mix-team aimbat. After that, they went to Montenegro for WGF where they also came out victorious. In these two events, Haraldsen showed the potential in him, especially at WGF where he was the second best rated player overall with a 1.35 rating, although he was overshadowed by Fridh.
Another Swedish player, André "BARBARR" Möller, joined the team in March, and shortly after that four players transferred to RG-Esports pairing up with Markus "pronax" Wallsten. The first chance to see the new lineup, now predominantly Swedish, was at HLTV.org Xperia PLAY prelude. They reached the semi-final where mTw got the better of them, while Haraldsen was unimpressive having a 1.01 rating.

The first real test for the new RG-Esports squad was at Xperia PLAY at Copenhagen Games. The team made it to the playoffs as first placed in front of TCM-Gaming, and then defeated mousesports after three maps in the quarter-final. SK awaited them in the semi-final and after a tough battle RG-Esports were knocked out in the third map. Their 3rd place match against mTw never took place, as the teams agreed to split the money, but the Swedish-Norwegian team proved itself as a new challenger for the world's top teams.
Haraldsen was the main reason for their success, as he stole the stage at this event while also becoming the team's main star. He recorded an amazing 1.40 rating, the best of all players at the tournament and was top rated on 7 of his 14 maps. In addition to that, he had the second best kill-death difference (+106), was the second best in pistol-rounds and the 4th best entry killer. And he didn't only shine in the group stage, as he was the best rated player of the semi-final encounter versus SK Gaming. For all that Haraldsen earned an MVP nomination, and although he came second in that vote, he was selected for the All-Star lineup of the tournament.

Their next tournament wasn't until mid-June when they attended DreamHack Summer. A few weeks before that, they left RG-Esports and signed for ESC Gaming, so they needed to show themselves in good light under the new organization. And that's exactly what they did by topping the group which contained mTw and Natus Vincere, thus directly reaching the semi-final. However, they were again stopped at that step, this time by mTw, and later lost to Natus Vincere in the 3rd place decider.
Haraldsen was once more the best rated in his team, as well as one of the most dominant players at the tournament, even though with a more modest 1.08 rating he still earned an All-Star nomination.

The team qualified for the ICSC8 finals at the beginning of July, where they had a somewhat disappointing campaign, not making it out of the group stage because of worse round difference. Haraldsen didn't excel, having a 0.99 rating as the team's 3rd best, although he had his moments in several matches.

A couple of weeks later, they attended GameGune with Finn "karrigan" Andersen as a stand-in for Tommy "tacky" Mosgaard. Despite not being there with their full lineup, ESC Gaming achieved their biggest success of the year by placing second, only behind SK Gaming and in front of Natus Vincere and fnatic.
Haraldsen wasn't the team's star at this event, but he made significant impact, recording a 1.17 rating. Particularly worth mentioning is his performance in the Consolidation final, as he led his team's comeback against Natus Vincere and finished as the best player of the match (24:16 score, 1.27 rating), which propelled them to their only major Grand final of the year.

In September, Haraldsen was forced to go inactive due to other obligations, causing him to miss out on ESWC where his team didn't make it past the group stage. He wasn't absent too long though, returning two months later, just in time for DreamHack Winter. Reinforced ESC Gaming managed to draw the match versus AGAiN and top their group due to better round difference. However, they weren't able to overcome mousesports in the quarter-final after a very tough battle, having to settle for a 5-8th finish.
Haraldsen wasn't bothered by his two month break at all, as he managed to top the charts of the entire event once more, for the second time having the highest rating (1.44). Even though it was a short campaign, he was top rated in 3 of his 5 maps, and was the player who carried his team the most at the event with rating 32% above team's average. He particularly excelled in the draw versus the Poles having a 30:19 score (1.48 rating), while he also put up an excellent fight against mousesports in their playoff encounter. For his contribution, he was later voted into the All-Star lineup of the tournament.
Another highlight against the Golden Five
Despite not playing in the regular season, Haraldsen went to EPS Germany Winter finals with the team, but they weren't able to overcome mousesports in the championship match. After that, the players were released from ESC Gaming who signed the Golden Five in their place, and the Swedish-Norwegian team disbanded. What Haraldsen's future holds is at the moment unknown.
The revelation of the year
Before 2011, Karl-William "kalle" Haraldsen wasn't considered anywhere near a top player and he showed mostly mediocre displays at major events he attended. But during 2011, he somehow brought his game to the next level, showing potential to become one of the very best in the world.
Even though he attended the least major events out of all the players in our top 20, Haraldsen excelled in each one of them and became the main star of his team in the process. He helped them reach 2nd place at GameGune, semi-finals at Xperia PLAY and DreamHack Summer, as well as quarter-final at DreamHack Winter.
He was one of the top players at each of those events, twice even best rated, which only one other player managed to accomplish in 2011. He was rewarded with All-Star lineup selections on those two occasions.
Overall, he recorded the best rating of all players in major tournaments (1.25), was shared best fragger (0.83 kills per round) and was the most dominant player in regard to rounds with 3 or more kills. In addition to that, he was top rated on 15 maps, 7th most, which is especially impressive considering that he played only 40.
Thanks to all that, he surely deserves to be named the revelation of the year, and despite playing only four major tournaments, deserves a place in this list thanks to the quality he displayed.
On the other hand, even though he statistically belongs to the very top, he couldn't have made it any further up the list than 11th due to playing in so few tournaments and not leading his team to any significant titles.

even if not top5 etc., but he should be in top6-10, 11th place is too low, because the main reason why he isn't higher is that he didn't lead his team to many successes. And it's just stupid, 'coz it's very visible that it's a whine of his team, because he was:
- most dominant, which is probably the most important part except clutches to help own team
- was top rated in 15 of 40 maps, it's 37,5%, so he was top in more than 1 per 3 matches.. and it's on lan ofc
- he still was better than gux
I also believe he is a really good player.

still most polish guys are trolls
the sad thing is, that even if most Poles will say "neo is the best" or some others from swe/ukr etc. smth like "f0rest n1/markeloff n1", there still is something true, because they're really good, while foxj and fallen are a bit overrated, even if the ones with fantastic potential..
and bra/portugal fans will still compare them to the rest..
btw we shouldn't compare any players in CS. It's stupid

And I agree with mah9, more tournaments would result in a minor rating, almost necessarily. Even more because Kalle didn't participate of some very high level events like ESWC, IEM and ICSC. The most logical thought is to project some bad performances in his journey, what is totally normal and understandable.
It's a illusion to presume his performances would keep on this amazing level in every next event.
Completely impossible, right?

Maybe due to the fact that his teamm8s are shiet and hes imba? No it has to do with the fact that he's a very talented player. He's beyond REAL's capabilities and I think there has been a generation change now in Norway.
But my cent is that no one will ever come near what REAL and co once achieved internationally regarding a team from Norway.
CS is crumbling everyday and it's officially pronounced dead in Norway, as you can see Catch-gamer.no is barely active.
IMO he should be on 7-8.
