IEM6 ranking explained for WC
Time: 2012-01-17 19:46

As there has been some confusion regarding the qualification system for IEM6 World Championship, we contacted ESL to clear it all up once and for all.

Instead the World Championship spots being passed down at Global Challenges like we have previously reported, ESL has chosen not to do that and the only way to directly qualify for the finals at CeBIT is to place top two at a Global Challenge.

Currently the qualified teams are fnatic and mousesports from Guangzhou and SK and WinFakt from New York City, with two more spots being up for grabs this weekend in Kiev.

Unlike previously though however, should the previously qualified teams place in the top two, the two World Championship spots do not get passed down - the only way to receive them is to place top two.

IEM6 World Championship will feature a total of twelve teams, of which six will come from Global Challenges. ESL will also invite the Asian, European and North American team with the most points in their ranking. The remaining three spots will go to the teams with the highest amount of points in IEM's ranking system.

Here is what the ranking looks like prior to IEM6 Global Challenge Kiev:

# Team Region Qualified? Points Guangzhou New York
1st WinFakt Europe #1 Europe [1]
110 3rd - 45pts 2nd - 65pts
2nd fnatic Europe Guangzhou 90 1st - 90pts
3rd SK Gaming Europe New York 90   1st - 90pts
4th mouz Europe Guangzhou 65 2nd - 65pts
5th mTw Europe   45   3rd - 45pts
6th eFuture Asia #1 Asia [3]
45 4th - 25pts
7th UMX America #1 America [2]
45   4th - 25pts
8th Anexis Europe   15 5-6th - 15pts
9th TyLoo Asia   15 5-6th - 15pts
10th EG America   15   5-6th - 15pts
11th Check Six America   15   5-6th - 15pts
12th Immunity Asia   10 7-8th - 10pts
13th XcN Asia   10 7-8th - 10pts
14th B&Y
America   10   7-8th - 10pts
15th semXorah America   10   7-8th - 10pts

[1] As teams will gain more points from Kiev, teams' ranking based on points may still change and new teams can out place WinFakt as #1 Europe, though they are still qualified for IEM6 WC by placing top two in New York.

[2] No American team will travel to Kiev meaning UMX has secured themselves the American spot for the World Championship if they can also get funding to travel to Hannover. If they are unable to go, next team in line would likely be Check Six due to EG's disbandment.

[3] Situation is the same for top ranked Asian team eFuture, as no Asian team is attending IEM6 Global Challenge Kiev and therefore have no way of scoring more points. It is unknown if they can afford to travel to IEM6 WC though.

With only fnatic, mousesports, SK Gaming, WinFakt, UMX and eFuture having secured spots for IEM6 World Championship in March, the team list is still wide open - who do you think will make it in Kiev?

:< too right
my fav team (and trace my fav player, hope he keeps playing and finds a suitable line-up for himselve)
2012-01-17 20:10:43
yeah me to, such a shame hes teamless
2012-01-17 20:12:15
there already wasn't really a worthy line-up possible for him with karri/friis abroad, and now ave retired and zonic goes to mouz aswell :(
sure there's great talent in denmark but it will take awhile for them to reach the needed level for international prizes, not sure trace will have the patience to wait for that :(
2012-01-17 20:15:18
true one and to bad if we dont see him in a team before cs dies he is such a big talent :(
2012-01-17 23:39:38
potential best in the world imo, if he isn't allready
together with f0rest and neo he is the best allround (fragging like a maniac with any weapon I mean)

2012-01-17 21:02:38
Best teamplay I have ever seen up to now: whimp, ave, sunde, zonic, mje.
2012-01-17 21:55:36
they were a great team yeah, but ofcourse with sunde's insane awp and those great riflers, especially zonic at times, it is easier to make working strats :P
2012-01-17 22:07:11
When it comes to names, I think that the current SK line-up is much better, but the teamplay is weak (at least in my opinion). But the lineup stated above drove cs teamplay to perfection. Too sad, it did not last any longer.
2012-01-17 22:11:53
yeah when it comes to pure fragging class, SK doesnt really have a weak point.

i think (although i'm not sure) that the spot stays with the players (meaning three players who played in new york would have to show up) and not the organization.
2012-01-18 02:04:40
any chance for Wildcard or smth like that?

don't smile so much, WinFakt won't advance from group stage.. 0-0-3 stats :/ because wf can only beat dts. Fnatic,mouz,m5 will smash u 16-0

you don't have any chance at this tournament, maybe you will take some nice photos, I think you will arrive to Kiev only as journalist/photographer, not as a player since you will not pass group stage

They've changed the tournament system and instead of European, American, Asian finals, made 5 Global Challenges instead of 2, which were before.

Europe:
SK Gaming
fnatic
WinFakt
mousesports
Natus Vincere
Lions
Moscow Five
Anexis
DTS

USA:
CheckSix

Asia:
eFuture
TyLoo
2012-01-17 20:42:02
is there any possibility NaVi goes to WC, if they don't place top2 in kiev?

+1, tournaments without winners from last year sucks (e.g. last wcg)
2012-01-17 21:37:59
I think that even if they place 7-8, they'll be at the WC.

I have a question, is this system binded to the teams in question or the organizations they played under?

For example, would any team under the banner of EG or mTw be able to play in their stead?
2012-01-17 20:58:24
i bet its binded to teams, not organizations
2012-01-17 21:40:45
will be really boring without the best team in the world :(
2012-01-17 21:01:33

Everyone here complaining there might be no Na'Vi and certainly no ESC-Gaming.

They didn't qualify, simple as that. Online / Offline doesn't matter. You qualify, you play, you don't qualifiy, you sit this one out.
2012-01-18 20:27:44
Navi? don't know
