As there has been some confusion regarding the qualification system for IEM6 World Championship, we contacted ESL to clear it all up once and for all.
Instead the World Championship spots being passed down at Global Challenges like we have previously reported, ESL has chosen not to do that and the only way to directly qualify for the finals at CeBIT is to place top two at a Global Challenge.
Currently the qualified teams are fnatic and mousesports from Guangzhou and SK and WinFakt from New York City, with two more spots being up for grabs this weekend in Kiev.
Unlike previously though however, should the previously qualified teams place in the top two, the two World Championship spots do not get passed down - the only way to receive them is to place top two.
IEM6 World Championship will feature a total of twelve teams, of which six will come from Global Challenges. ESL will also invite the Asian, European and North American team with the most points in their ranking. The remaining three spots will go to the teams with the highest amount of points in IEM's ranking system.
Here is what the ranking looks like prior to IEM6 Global Challenge Kiev:
| # | Team | Region | Qualified? | Points | Guangzhou | New York |
| 1st | WinFakt |
Europe | #1 Europe [1] |
110 | 3rd - 45pts | 2nd - 65pts |
| 2nd | fnatic |
Europe | Guangzhou | 90 | 1st - 90pts
| 3rd | SK Gaming |
Europe | New York | 90 | 1st - 90pts
| 4th | mouz |
Europe | Guangzhou | 65 | 2nd - 65pts
| 5th | mTw |
Europe | 45 | 3rd - 45pts | ||
| 6th | eFuture |
Asia | #1 Asia [3] |
45 | 4th - 25pts | |
| 7th | UMX |
America | #1 America [2] |
45 | 4th - 25pts | |
| 8th | Anexis |
Europe | 15 | 5-6th - 15pts | ||
| 9th | TyLoo |
Asia | 15 | 5-6th - 15pts | ||
| 10th | EG |
America | 15 | 5-6th - 15pts
| 11th | Check Six |
America | 15 | 5-6th - 15pts
| 12th | Immunity |
Asia | 10 | 7-8th - 10pts | ||
| 13th | XcN |
Asia | 10 | 7-8th - 10pts | ||
| 14th | B&Y |
America | 10 | 7-8th - 10pts
| 15th | semXorah |
America | 10 | 7-8th - 10pts |
[1] As teams will gain more points from Kiev, teams' ranking based on points may still change and new teams can out place WinFakt as #1 Europe, though they are still qualified for IEM6 WC by placing top two in New York.
[2] No American team will travel to Kiev meaning UMX has secured themselves the American spot for the World Championship if they can also get funding to travel to Hannover. If they are unable to go, next team in line would likely be Check Six due to EG's disbandment.
[3] Situation is the same for top ranked Asian team eFuture, as no Asian team is attending IEM6 Global Challenge Kiev and therefore have no way of scoring more points. It is unknown if they can afford to travel to IEM6 WC though.
With only fnatic, mousesports, SK Gaming, WinFakt, UMX and eFuture having secured spots for IEM6 World Championship in March, the team list is still wide open - who do you think will make it in Kiev?

my fav team (and trace my fav player, hope he keeps playing and finds a suitable line-up for himselve)
sure there's great talent in denmark but it will take awhile for them to reach the needed level for international prizes, not sure trace will have the patience to wait for that :(
together with f0rest and neo he is the best allround (fragging like a maniac with any weapon I mean)
"5th mTw Europe 45 4th - 25pts"
ps. do not thank me for the idea, Taz
GL^HF for the event :)

They didn't qualify, simple as that. Online / Offline doesn't matter. You qualify, you play, you don't qualifiy, you sit this one out.
