The only player to stay at the same position as in our last year's ranking is Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, who finds himself once more being a close 2nd. The world's best fragger earned this place by playing well at every tournament with his new team SK Gaming, and displaying several MVP worthy performances throughout the year.

As a member of the newer generation of top players, Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund's story in the big leagues starts in 2007, when he was for a short while a part of SK Gaming. But it wasn't until 2009 that he received his first real chance by joining fnatic, where he proved himself right from the start, helping the team dominate throughout that year and in the end he claimed the title of Best Counter-Strike Player of 2009.
In 2010, fnatic had somewhat less success, but were still a stable second best team behind the Ukrainians Natus Vincere, and Alesund continued playing on the highest level finishing 2nd on our Top 20 of 2010.
At the end of the year though, Alesund and his teammate Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg needed a new challenge, so they tranferred to SK Gaming in search of greener pastures.

SK Gaming's new lineup was expected to conquer the world immediately upon forming, but their first appearance in 2011 was far from the expectations, as they had a forgettable campaign at IEM5 European Championship Finals. Despite a great start with wins over eSahara and mousesports, SK failed to pass the group stage after losses to MYM and Fx, along with a frustrating draw with mTw.
Alesund was overall the best rated in SK with a 1.07 rating, which turned out to be his worst in 2011, as from here on things only got better for him and the team.

The tournament with the biggest prize purse in 2011 ($80,000) was next, IEM5 World Championship, and SK would be looking for a much better result there. They did show improved form, despite playing with Dennis "dennis" Edman as a stand-in, as they went through group stage undefeated now. Still, they ended the event on a disappointing note, with losses in the semi-final to Fx and in the 3rd place decider to mTw.
Alesund had a very good performance overall, actually ending up as the top rated player of the event (1.23 rating), which granted him an MVP nomination. Even though his best performance was in the 3rd place decider, he played consistently well throughout the tournament, above team's average in 9 of 11 maps. Although his MVP nomination wasn't fruitful, mainly due to his efforts not helping his team to a podium place, he was still later selected into the All-Star lineup as one of the best players of the tournament.
SK showed further improvement in their form at HLTV.org's Xperia PLAY prelude, as they came out on top of the online tournament, defeating mTw in the final without many difficulties. Alesund was by far the first star of the whole tournament, top rated with an amazing 1.50 rating and a having a +100 kill-death difference.

SK Gaming had to wait until April for their first notable achievement, when they finished second in Xperia PLAY. Alesund wasn't the most responsible for their success though, but was a close second with a 1.17 rating.

As the next major tournament, DreamHack Summer, was approaching, SK Gaming decided to make a change in their lineup by signing Marcus "Delpan" Larsson, who at the time was playing for fnatic. A few weeks later, it was time to put the new lineup to the test, and it passed with flying colors. They won the event by defeating Natus Vincere in the semi-final and mTw in the final, while they also came out victorious at IOL FINAL4 a day before and the Swedish WCG qualifier.
Alesund played great the whole weekend, particularly in the international tournament, where he ended up being the team's best rated with a 1.23 rating. He was one of the most consistent players of the event, with a rating above 1.00 in 9 of 10 maps and was the second best fragger, which secured him another MVP nomination. In the end, his new teammate Larsson was chosen for that award, but Alesund ended up being a part of the All-Star lineup for the second time.

Alesund ended up only as the 4th best rated in his team with a 1.29 rating, but he actually excelled in their more important matches, recording a 1.42 rating in the playoffs. His most impressive performance came in the Upper semi-final match against his former team fnatic, when he posted a 31:11 score (1.96 rating, 56% above team's average). Overall, he earned his third MVP nomination, but he was again overlooked, this time in favor of his teammate Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg.

Their invincibility was finally put to an end at e-Stars Seoul, where they succumbed to Frag eXecutors on two occasions and ended up 2nd placed. Still, it was a solid campaign during which they defeated fnatic, mTw and Natus Vincere.
Alesund was shared best rated in the team with a 1.17 rating, although without standing out much, but mostly playing stable in every match. He ended up with the most kills of all players at the event (141) and earned another All-Star nomination.

Despite his team losing 3 of their 5 maps, he was rated above 1.00 in each of them and ended up with an excellent 1.24 rating, later receiving an All-Star lineup selection.

The team quickly found its winning form again, coming out victorious at IEM6 Global Challenge New York. Alesund continued his impressive form, being rated above 1.00 at each of 8 maps in this tournament as well, and having the best rating of all players and his year-highest (1.41).
Although the official MVP award went to mTw's stand-in, our Marc "Nix0n" Winther Kristensen, Alesund's performance was also very worthy of it, as he was the most consistent player, had the most kills, the best kill-death difference and was one of the most dominant.

SK Gaming brought that form to their next event and won their most prestigious title of the year, ESWC. In one of the most competitive events of the year, they outplayed WinFakt, mousesports and lastly Natus Vincere to climb to the top of the world in that moment.
Alesund's individual form hit his peak of the year on this occasion and he was probably the most responsible for SK's success. After impeccable displays in New York and Warsaw, he continued playing above average in every map in Paris as well, reaching 24 maps in a row with ratings above 1.00. Overall, he ended with an impressive 1.36 rating, was the best fragger of the tournament and the best in pistol-rounds. However, the MVP title once again slipped from his hands, as it went to Finn "karrigan" Andersen from 3rd placed mousesports. Despite that, many consider him the actual Most Valuable Player of the event, as his team finished in 1st place.

World Cyber Games were the last major event in 2011, and despite not being one of the more competitive ones, this tournament decided the best team of the year by most accounts. SK Gaming came out on the losing side of that battle, being outplayed in a close final battle against the Poles of ESC Gaming.
Alesund was once again one of the stars of the event and one of the main reasons for SK's overall success. He recorded event's 3rd highest 1.27 rating, while accumulating the most kills and the best kill-death difference. He was voted man-of-the-match in all three playoff victories of his team (against TyLoo, DTS and Moscow Five), while he was also the one who put up the most fight in their loss in the final. That resulted in another MVP nomination for Alesund, and although he was again not picked, he received his 6th All-Star selection.
Best fragger of 2011
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund proved to be the most stable player in the last few years, as after being named the Best CS Player of 2009 and 2nd best in 2010, he continued in the same manner in 2011. Although SK didn't achieve world domination as their new lineup may have suggested, they were certainly one of the two best teams during the year, in the end by most accounts ending as second, but for some periods being the best.
Alesund was their most influential player throughout the year, as he played well in every tournament they attended, while being selected in the All-Star lineup at 6 of them. However, MVP titles kept slipping away from him, whether in favor of his teammates or someone else, as despite being nominated on five occasions, he was never named the best player of an event.
Regardless of that, his influence was obvious, particularly at ESWC where he played incredible and helped his team win their most prestigious title. He played great in his team's other title-winning campaigns too, at GameGune, DreamHack Summer and especially IEM6 GC New York, as well as in during their runner-up campaigns at WCG and Xperia PLAY.
Alesund was the best fragger of the world in 2011, recording the most kills of all players in major tournaments (2070), as well as the best average (0.83 kills per round). His impressive rating of 1.24 was shared second best, while he was the 3rd most consistent with 72% of maps rated above 1.00.
Thanks to his overall performance, which also included never being rated below team's average at 11 tournaments and always having a rating above 1.00, he was a certain member of this year's "big two". However, someone had to be the close second, and while on some other occasion Alesund's display would be enough for 1st place, in 2011 there was someone slightly more impressive.

What did you think about Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund's 2011? Would you have placed him at number 1?
If you want to check out the entire ranking, go to our Introduction article, and although it's now obvious to everyone who is number 1 on our list, stay tuned until tomorrow to make sure and to see why that was the case!
btw from some point I don't like Na`Vi too, because they beat my favourite time three times ))

of course, I meant "team". The case is that in Russian cybersports community we have a loanword from "team", that sounds like "tima", and I absently wrote it here.
GUYS, STOP THIS FLAME WAR GTR VS NEO
it's only an article
GtR and Neo individually has total more than 10k kills :D
Everytime there's a situation like this one(Two players so close to each other), it looks like you're only looking at which team won the most titles during the year, and I think this is not fair.
Moreover, you cannot rely on the "MVP System" you set up, as everyone knows that people ain't objectives here, of course NEO has won more MVP Titles than GTR but everyone knows that NEO has many more fanboys than GTR voting for him whatever the tournament. And as we are talking here about the best player of the year, not the favourite one, GTR had to be first IMO.
Anyway, great year for both of them, 2nd place is huge for a player ^^.
But please: Most notable stats: best fragger (0.83 kills per round), most kills (2070), shared second best rating (1.24), best rifler (0.68 KPR), best AK47, 3rd most consistent (72% of maps rated above 1.00).
Looks like everything was said here...
Neooooooooooooo FTW! :)
GET_RIGHT TOp1
And no, it's not ONLY by statistics, that was explained many times already, including the introduction post...
Post edited 2012-01-19 02:08:30
Do you even play 1.6?
This is the first time I feel this ranking is wrong aswell. Neo hasn't been that outstanding this year.
"shared second best rating (1.24)" - as you see, even by stats gtr wasn't best this year. The stats, which u can see when you go to the 'statistics' in the menu of hltv are gathered from the whole career of gtr and there is shown that he has best rating, but this year, even if he was amazing, even stats shows that he wasn't the n1. And the stats are not the only one deciding factor
Post edited 2012-01-19 02:11:57
and i see u dont know everything about statistics section :) there is event history of every player and there u can see in every tournament everything about the player so your reply i useless to me sorry
gtr was this year a consistent madfragging beast, but he didn't offer as mych to his team as markeloff, neo or trace did. When SK started to winning? When Delpan joined and was the mvp of the tournament. Always there was someone who stepped up and helped them to win, while gtr was always the best, but dunno why, not the guy who shined, 'coz he was the same as always. And Neo, even without 1455998pro stats from each match, was amazing on every major and carried the team to win, clutching the rounds and killing everybody.
Both of them were at the same level in 2011, Neo was just more like f0rest is in duo of gtr-f0rest: gtr is playing there always amazing and getting his frags, while f0rp is inconsistent, but when he has his day, f0rest is the star of the team. And the same thing with gtr and neo this year, but the difference between f0rest and neo was, that neo was consistent at all.

I'M SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW I THINK I HAVE SOME POLISH BLOOD IN MY VEINS.
Ok, I just overreacted a bit.
for my opinion the IGL's didnt get what they deserved : Loord RobbaN niko cArn ... really they should get some points and deserved to be in top20

now are 51% of the posts about Neo, !!!
Neo had the same rating and (4) MVPs, thats all, slightly better. Deserved 1st place.

GeT_RiGhT > neo ?
and yet, somehow ESC always beat SK in finals

CS is team based game for fuck sake! Better look up here for a reasons: http://www.hltv.org/?pageid=188&teamid=4104&am..
uhuhuhuhuhuh :D
Deal with it, Neo was better this year, he made more important frags, he grabbed MVP titles 4 times, and he was meaning more for ESC(best team in 2011-Im sure u cant agree with this too, but im not shocked, every SK fan disagree), he has more important titles in 2011 and overall he was just better. Only thing that is supporting GeT_RiGhT is k/d ratio, unfortanely for you this aspect dont decide about 1st place, oh - GeT_RiGhT was on DreamhackSummer and GameGune, where we haven't seen ESC - Im sure If they would've be there Neo could grab another MVP title, and ESC another win.

For me they bot are top1, it should be 1 neo and gt.
f0rest is 2nd
GTR is the best for 3 last years

and he also didnt attend global new york GC, so who knows
i cant believe they gave eswc to karrigan what a joke
what dont you understand here ??? watch the demos (:
OH WAIT LOL
tell me 1 sport taht the mvp is not on the winning team
gl with that
littleshit gtr my balls NEO THE BEST
what a troll by HLTV.org, worst top 20 ever
i like you H@H@H@H@@H
you can even ask him yourself, he's the first one to admit it. :)
and it's the same as CT. he's never the frontline guy when his team is retaking a site. he's playing passively and waiting for the terrorists to show and/or take duels against his teammates so he can outaim them while they are firing onto his teammates. or he's simply just trying to backstab and while doing so also playing very passively, walking the entire way to the bombsite instead of running and therefore more often than not gets his backstabbing kill but doesnt have enough time to defuse and chooses to run away and save his gun (unless his team managed to overtake the site already.)
that explanation long enough for ya?
Post edited 2012-01-19 04:54:16
You did showed me, in your point of view, how GTR plays, why? You made your point at the begging. Btw its interesting your "slam" at the end,"ya", it could represent proud and narcissism.
Well, what i want to say is simple: If u were correct you would be correct. Playstyle (sic) doesn't make an higher ratio, skill, experience ,a good decision and principally consistency does. People think that they know everything, careful. Do you really know that well GTR playstyle?
Peace!
Peace!
very well said..
IMO other players like gux/trace are more valuable because they can go and clean BS by themselfs. People are saying that he was top1 stats etc. but why for bloody hell he wasn't MVP during the year? Coincidence?
btw. f0rest is much better than gtr.
MUST... PLEASE... POLAND.
GT should've had MVP at GameGune, at ESWC and at NY. I mean Nix0n got MVP at NY... really?
I agree that ESC was better than SK this year, but I don't agree with this ranking. GT should've been first this year, he has really been dominating. Even more than Neo.
Also, ESC didn't attend those events like you said, so it's irrelevant.
GET_RIGHT = 1
I dont want argue with you, Its your opinion and I respect it, EOT.
Just like zet and SpawN revolutionized play style.
any words?
For me, Pentagram is not the most impressive team of CS history, far from that, but Neo is the best player ever. He took skill to another level.

I guess you missed that half of the year and decided to assume he played badly? Or your memory simply doesn't serve you...
Anyway, it speaks about your objectivity and the weight of your words.
i'd say the best period of this year of neo was the 1st half...

it's really impressive but maybe we should wait for neos stats before we judge who is better ?
wat
arguably the most important trait in cs is being a good fragger
many hysterical boys crying here about GTR 2nd xD

GeT_RiGhT will go down in history as one of the most talented players of all time and at the end of the day it doesn't make a difference if he is number 1 or 2. Looking forward to the top 1 article.
GTR, markeloff, Taz, were 100x better than neo this year
NO FUCKING WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
gtr deserved top 1 this year imo. even I'm m5 fan. trully
It was clearly the battle between get right and neo, no f0rest no markeloff and ofc not trace could be compared to these players this year.
But in the same way as they were a step higher than the others, neo was a step above get right.
Well deserved for the best fragger in the world, 2nd place is really good, but overall the master of counter strike 1.6 is NEO, the one and only.
but There's delpan with his incredible awp and f0rest's aim in SK. and GTR has played with them.
and i have to say GTR has changed his team this year.
if we have to talk for last 3 years :
GTR (21)
Player of 2009
2nd @2010
2nd @ 2011
NEO (24)
1st @ 2011
7th @2010
<1 @ 2009
But in the end, i would like to see both of them on 1st place.

Also, it's hard to get frag when you had better players. because they're hard to die therefore they need you less for backup.
Post edited 2012-01-19 11:08:16
Delpan(9) > pasha(18)
Don't you think ESC needed NEO for backup more ? so NEO had more chance to get frag?
Also, GTR has played against major teams like how he played against ordinary teams.
rush and get 2-3 more frags then die.
Anyway, we don't have to talk about HLTV.org's thoughts. we know how they failed in their top10 highlights.
just check their January-June top10 and 2011's top10
i ask you hltv, are you kidding us?

Nice!

IMO Get_Right should have been top1 but just my opinion =)
for me almost GtR = Neo in this year but 4me Neo was play better in important matches with top teams when FX/ESC need something magic, Neo was this person and this is difference for me.
GtR maybe is best fragger but in cluch matches he sometimes failed or f0rest/face make a job for him.
Ofc I dont see all SK and ESC matches but you probably also not. So leave verdict to someone who looks at all objectively !
imo gtr should be first, because he was monster last year.we all can see that in this article but its only my opinion and i respect this ranking even if i disagree a little bit.it was probably rly hard to decide who should be first.
and stop saying that gtr has better teammates and stuff like that.taz and pasha was great last year and kuben aswell.only loord had pretty bad year...and its only about players and their performance, not about teams...so
cg gtr and off course cg neo,the best 2 players last year
gtr > neo in 2011
Fucking top20 :@

if they could..
CONGRATZ GTR! :)
no neo = no esc
no get right = moddii/gux take his place and sk play almost as
GG to GTR...
GG to NEO...
And they don't need changing players every 6 months like most nordic teams. That's why i love them.
estars esc>sk
wcg esc>sk
get right can't deserve 1st
MEET NEo YOUR MAKER
Guns Are Drawn NEo
Frag eXecutors NEo
AGAiN NEo
ESC Gaming | Neo
DA KING
I mean - what makes the best player is what he does in these most important moments - if you can win a 1v1 that ends a match and makes you a winner of a major tournament it's more than when you can hit 40 even most amazing frags in a group stage match.
I think gtr is sick aimer but psychically he is not so good... He is very emotional and underperformes in decisive situations.
fuck neo !!!
GTR > NEO
Rating is calculated by comparing a player's average stats...
-kills per round
-survived rounds per round
-a value based on number of rounds with multiple kills.
the whole hltv organisation sat together on a table:
guy A: "Ok guys lets make a rating as worthless as possible to satisfy retarded fanboys!"
guy B: "Nonono, thats not enough! lets add mvp awards, so that the retarded fanboys can boost their favorite player, no matter how they play!"
guy A: "Brilliant!"
guy B: "NEONEONEONEO! <3"
gj guys!
MVP is voted by experts and fans.
MVP is voted by experts and fans.
and thats the problem.
i dont give a shit about get_right or any other cs player. doesnt change that get_right was best in 2011

Both are better than you and we only according to our opinion we speak:
1.neo
2.grt
1.gtr
2.neo
objectively: 1.neo and gtr in that year
2. ////
Again someone had a lucky year and stole your 1st position by an unbelievable small gap.
Next year it's your, I am sure! Keep it up M@N
and then only rank 2? so the ranking seems not to be based on statistics
ofc
H@H@H@H@H@H@

what a surprise, look who will be the 1st
Post edited 2012-01-19 20:14:17
Neo is first for sure :D but very good year for both players ;]]
I hope 2012 will be better and more interesting than 2011 :)
now we can just sit with popcorn and enjoin their cry and helplessness
gtr rating 1.24 neo rating 1.24 (do not see at gtr main rating, it is from all gtr's official matches)
gtr play with 3 players with 1.20+ kd ratio, neo with only one
neo 4xMVP, gtr 0xMVP
neo 35% man of the match of his all matches, gtr 20%
neo 2nd most dominant, gtr not classified
neo kills per round 0.82, gtr 0.83 ahah come on its only 0.01 and because of that gtr must be 1st?
best rifler (0.68 KPR), neo sometimes play awp and he is 5th best entry killer
gtr most kills (2070), neo doesnt play in dreamhack summer and gamegune
in statistic neo win =)
