Does PC gaming need a doctor? Does it need an undertaker? German gaming manufacturer challenges fans to give opinions and launches countdown leading to big Announcement.
With the headline "Isn't PC Gaming Dead?" emblazoned across the screen, German gaming peripherals manufacturer, ROCCAT Studios, today unveiled a website where they ask for fans’ opinions on the state of PC gaming.
"With all the talk lately, you'd think PC gaming was over. Some say PC gaming isn't dead, but think they need to breathe new life into it now and then with yet another 'groundbreaking' reinvention. But is all that necessary? Does PC gaming need a doctor? Does it need an undertaker?"
Says René Korte, ROCCAT™ Founder and CEO:
"We hope to get gamers thinking about where things are headed for PC gaming. Certain gaming peripheral companies constantly announce that they've come up with the 'Next Big Thing' that's going to reinvent things. But does PC gaming really need revolution? Or, rather, is evolution the way forward? We, as always, have our own ideas. And very soon we’re going to show the world a new and exciting one."
Visitors are invited to give feedback via an on-screen entry form, and ROCCAT™ will post many of the answers on the site for users to read and discuss.
ROCCAT's site also features a countdown clock ticking off the number of days until the company announces what they think "is the smartest way forward for PC gaming."

I will explain it simply: When you use a console controller to aim, you have to worry about the direction you push the analog stick, as well as how far and for how long you push the analog stick in that direction.
On the other hand, when using a mouse to aim, you simply move your mouse to a spot on your mousepad that corresponds to a spot on your screen. That's it. It doesn't matter how fast or slow you move your mouse, and you don't have to balance your own force against a spring-loaded mechanism in order to control speed.
All of this being said, console gaming is much, much more popular. I think this is for two reasons: 1) [popular] console gaming has been around for longer 2) Console gaming is cheaper.
Console gaming can be traced back to the Magnavox Odyssey in the early 1970’s. “PC gaming” as we know it – at least on the large scale – didn’t appear until the late 80’s or early 90’s. And remember, back then only a small amount of people had contact with computers in their daily lives.
In addition to getting a late start, PC gaming costs a lot of money. You have to spend a minimum of $500 to get a system that will play current games, and you will likely have to spend a couple hundred dollars on upgrades every year (a new graphics card here, cpu there, the occasional system overhaul when socket-type changes). Consoles, on the other hand, cost an initial $200-500 depending on the type and are guaranteed to play new games for at least five years. Getting into PC gaming requires a considerably larger dedication of money.
tldr; PC gaming is better than console, but console gaming is more popular and will continue to be in the future.

The downside to online pc gaming is definitely the cheating though. On console it's so much easier to find and permanently ban a cheaters console since the consoles all use the same hardware and software and they have to modify one of those in order to cheat.
I think the best possibility for gaming in the future would be consoles with full mouse and keyboard support since cheaters are easier to get rid of and almost nonexistent. Oh and of course dedicated servers would be nice especially on xbox live since they already charge money for the service.

:D
Probably just a marketing thing.
there is more PC gamer than console gamer

U.K. is actually the country with the highest percentage of people playing console these days.
Germany has the highest pc gaming percentage, in case anyone's curious. UK, France, and Germany combined, the three biggest Euro markets, only represent 2/3rds of the U.S. market for gaming, though.
...don't blame me. The last console I bought was a Gamecube for Smash Bros :P
europe felt the effects of our housing crisis.
we are feeling effects of the euro and current debt crisis.
if europe finds itself in a housing crisis the whole world will suffer (immensely).
Currencies are linked. Economies are linked. So,if your theory is correct we are all fucked. :)
Its probably a mousepad or a new hp..
good gaming PC > all consoles in graphic memory and speed
I must disagree, games on consoles are MUCH more expensive to afford and prices (in poland) are very high even half year after release. I buy my games (i'm not a pirate :D) at allegro [polish ebay like]. You can have a decent pc (just don't buy it at store heh) for a two consoles price not 5x and games are extremely cheap after one or two months. So money argument is kinda wrong here.

Also you can improve your pc anytime. New graphics cards are enough reason to buy pc. you can't do this in console.
Also, CS:GO is a mainly console game. Valve made it for consoles.

But PC gaming is too far from death :)
Sure, PC gaming costs more than console gaming. And installing the games on consoles OFTEN (not always) is easier than on PCs.
But console games come with problems creating, for example, your own mods or dedicated servers.
After 4 years, its 2012, I'm still playing latest releases without any upgrade. But your processor is old, VGA is weak and doesn't support directx 11 and other problems.
get it?
Still can play MW2 with 50~90fps (which is the same your TV displays) without problems (and I dont even play MW2).
Yes, my old video card didn't support dx11, but I got it cheap.
I can nicely browse through internet, do my work stuff on my PC and still use programs to chat while not switching to another computer.
And what are those other problems?

Also, PC is more powerfull for consoles. It was, is, and always will be. Also another example, on BF3, you cant play with 64 players on consoles bcoz consoles cant effort it.

=
PC gamers win for sure. Pc gamers got the fastest aiming because a mouse would aim faster on the target compared to a ps3/xbox controll (if we compare a pro vs a pro for example). So why would it be dead? + It's only NOOBS or incompetent people who thinks that the best games are based on graphics. WELL, it's not. It's all about gameplay, and PC is the winner, without a doubt.
console>pc for that cause. 1-1
And I'm not sure, but I guess you can't watch porn on PlayStation.. So what does the little kid do? Play, get fat and die. No man, PC all the way..
This is the lamest way marketing yourself ROCCAT, you should be ashamed!

cmon dude
ITS LIKE A LEBRON JAMES Vs. FAT STUPID KID
Once CS:GO comes out, and the PC vs Console wars start, console gamers will get that destroyed that they will have no choice but to come to PC gaming.
Lets start at the beginning, first of all PC gaming is far from dead if you look at big title games such as but not limited to: Starcraft2, World of Warcraft, Counter-Strike, Warcraft3(Dota), Dota2(steam), League of Legends, HoN (i believe still has a large following I believe?), and many more I can't think of off the top of my head. These games are the cornerstone for a huge market and a variety of gamers and genres.
The argument for console gaming is simply that it's much more casual than many PC games, PC games are very difficult and take time to master which doesn't cater to the ladder of the crowd buying such games. PC games mark the evolution and competitive spirit that games have come to be. Going home and turning on any TV even an old one is irrelevant because the system is simply all that matters which is what makes console gaming so huge because it's much more affordable. High-grade PC's don't come cheap and in a crisis like we're in we'll see a lot more console play because people can't just simply go out and buy the perfect PC.
The number of dedicated PC gamers is the real number that matters. Not the number of players playing these games, because we're here to stay where as console gamers bounce from game to game which leads to faster releases of the same basic game and in turn sometimes makes or breaks the game. PC gaming is just simply not as easy but much more lucrative. The people playing PC games that are dedicated will be able to play almost any game and have a great understanding of what the common goal and outlook is, where as a console gamer simply wont. We're much more versatile and remember a lot of PC gamers are apart of the number of console gamers too.
There is nothing wrong with playing on a console vs a PC, but like I said in a crisis it's just much more affordable, it's much easier to just hop on and play a simple casual game, and it's much easier to play with all your friends in the same room with a console having split screens etc.. and it's EXTREMELY easier to bring a small system you can put in a backpack around. Gamers have a lot of specifics they need such as but not limited to: Mouse, Keyboard, Tower, (Monitor usually) Good internet connection, and a router setup and ready to go, Headphones, plus hooking your computer up. It just becomes a hassle to play with all your friends on a daily basis. This also makes us superior players because we need such perfect setups to play at the level we want to. I can't just turn on a computer and open the options menu and destroy everyone.
Another issue that comes with console gaming is that it is very cluttered with young kids who's parents think that the being on the computer all day is evil yet sitting in front of a TV is somehow better?
To my last point, being professional or on a team, There is MUCH more money in PC gaming for one sheer reason, PC gamers are much more dedicated and love to watch their favorite players, a console gamer generally could give a crap about great players, they just want to play for a few hours to pass the time.
I think console gaming is fun but PC gaming will always remain superior in the dedication of fans/players, professionals, skill, games, and the versatility in general of using a mouse a keyboard and the options that are available on a PC.
PC gaming for life. <3 Love you hltv.org

edit.
FACT 2: YOU CAN'T PLAY RTS ON ANY CONSOLE AS GOOD AS YOU CAN ON COMPUTER ! ! ! Mouse is the most accurate for RTS-s.
FACT 3: YOU CAN'T PLAY MMORPG ON ANY CONSOLE AS GOOD AS YOU CAN ON COMPUTER ! ! ! Mouse + keyboard are the best when chatting and spell binding is questioned.
So NO, PC gaming is and never will be dead!

FPS, Strategy etc. on PC.
pc is constantly evolving, you always need a bigger and better pc when console isn't evolving that fast
i bought 2 games and both don't even work on my computer cause he's too old

Your opinion isn't valuable. Please go buy a new Roccat mouse and keyboard so you can save PC gaming.
But again consoles and pc can be only compared from the point of view of gaming experience, other than this is pointless to discuss I assume :)

XBox Live and PSN are both smaller by many millions.
Of course an enormous number of people will have a STEAM account and one or maybe both of the others, or maybe have an XBox live account and a PSn account, but flat out, STEAM is larger.
Of course this doesn't take into account the fact that both 360 and PS3 are outnumbered by the Wii, but most who say PC gaming is dead are not owners of a Wii.
for me console gaming died with ps1.
IMO the future of gaming is simple, PC's will be exclusively for MMO's and consoles will take over FPS, sports, etc. Once they can figure out how to play MMO's on consoles I guarentee PC gaming will be a distant shadow. Anyway when you start asking "IS PC GAMING DEAD" its already dead, just sayingg
Post edited 2012-02-22 06:21:36
kids mostly play on consoles. exactly!. where do you expect the competitive part come around that?
yeah pc gaming is dead right. beside that there are just 2 console tournaments in one year(mlg and wcg). pc gaming with tons of tournaments every month cant compete with that true.
no wonder why americans always suck competitive games
