cArn to retire after IEM6 WC
Patrick "cArn" Sättermon of fnatic has revealed that IEM6 World Championship will be his last tournament.
Sättermon dropped the bomb in a video interview on fnatic.com. "After [IEM6 World Championship], I will stop playing actively and I'm gonna withdraw from the in-game leader position in fnatic."
The fnatic front man admitted that he had come to terms with the decision to retire after winning DreamHack Winter last year, one of the few tournaments he had not been able to win in the past.
Giving reason to the decision, he mentions age and that he has "many other goals in life" that he intends to achieve, adding that he feels now is the right time to embark on new challenges.

When questioned about the new in-game leader, Sättermon says "things are still to be discussed", but gives praise to his team-mate Richard "Xizt" Landström for his attributes in the game.
Although revealing his decision to retire just ahead of the IEM6 World Championship, he says his team is completely devoted and focused on the upcoming event.
Sättermon, 26, has resided within the ranks of fnatic since 2006, when Harley "dsn" Örwall was handed the task to create a new winning team for fnatic by the organization's founder.
Information detailing his retirement is to be released at a later date.

Have they been playing on this very same level for 6 consecutive years? I really doubt they did. He is an inspiring person. His loyalty is what made him so different. Nowadays there are so many sick aimers, naturally carn is worse at this component. But it takes so much effort to effectively run these sick aimers. Gux, f0rest and GTR are by and large can be considered among top10 aimers in the world and yet somehow carn managed to keep them in one team and use their strong sides. This is not about killing, this is all about leading and being a person who can be a glue of the team and do all the shit work so that these aimers can do what they are good at. no tears of sadness, currently i mostly support SK and through im a fan of ingame leaders i currently like to watch RobbaN forming his team. still for me carn will always be the best IGL of all times, he always saw talent in gamers and formed uprising rookies to real machines and probalby the best players in the world learned from carn.

Do not mix the things. One way is that they left the team, and another way is to not recognize that, with them both and alongside with dsn, formed the best fnatic team ever. Maybe they left the team to have motivation to play. Still do not know about their real reasons they left, nor can we find them the right ones.

Imo carn is excellent for team leader and captain, just not for play, he should talk with team inbetween rounds whwn pauses and in half and motivate them and give direction. For the people saying it actually affected his decisions that some random kids on forums where saying he wasn't good enough, you really need to get a grip - no way in HELL that affected him.
Another thing, people that say he's not the best ingame leader and that others are better because they can frag, look at the numbers.
He starts out at 2006, the lineup with dsn, carn, ins, archi and f0rest was great, top3 team for about 3 years, then they got GTR and GuX and had a year in which the won it all, 2009.
And there is no team in the community that has done that for more than 1 year, and the teams that have done that are the greatest of our times, mTw, SK, fnatic, ESC/AGAiN/etc. and NaVi are teams that have had those years.
But notice this, when GTR and f0rest decided to go to SK and try and build a super-team because they thought RobbaN was better and cArn was past it, look at what cArn did.
The first tournament after that whole fiasco, he comes out and wins it, after that they have a few under-par showings, but still often getting into top4 places.
Did SK go on a streak with that lineup and won EVERYTHING ?

this is such a huge loss for cs 1.6 so sad. not even considering fnatic losingg the igl but carn is such an important character for cs. It s so bad for the game even if u dont like him every1 has to admit that carn had a huge impact on the development of the game and the community. Sad day to see one of the key figures leaves the game when it needs them the most, though i can understand his decision and can only wish him gl in all his future endeavours

90% of those people have literally never watched a demo of fnatic play and thus don't understand his positions within the team aside from being the IGL.
Lets also not forget the amount of clutches he has won in very important games. A great player, a legend, and I wish him all the best in what he chooses to do next.

I think it was mostly to "save his face". It they fail to do any impact at IEM, if could look like cArn was stepping down or getting kicked because of a bad result.

Unfortunately the CS scene is not the best to be judge by the statements of their members, in this case the pro scene, as we see people leave/retire and see them pop up again sooner than later as if nothing happened (especially in cases of 'lack of time', 'motivation' etc.).
