Lions finish 3rd in front of SK
In the 3rd place decider at IEM6 World Championship, Lions managed to surprise SK Gaming and come back from a devastating 2-16 loss on de_mirage, to win the match in the next two maps, 16-7 on de_inferno and 16-9 on de_nuke.
The two group winners from the earlier stage of the competition at IEM6 World Championship, SK Gaming and Lions, lost their semi-final matches earlier today which meant they would play the 3rd place decider in a fight for an $8,000 prize.
The match kicked off on de_mirage where SK Gaming showed complete domination after starting on the CT-side, winning it 13-2 and closing the match right away at the 16-2 result.
Even though Lions seemed completely distraught during the first map, they somehow gather up some strength and retaliated on de_inferno. Starting on the CT-side Lions fought off the first seven attacks by SK, and later secured a 13-2 lead at half time. After the change of sides, SK started coming back by winning four in a row, but it wasn't enough as soon after Lions clinched the map with a 16-7 score.
The decider ended up being de_nuke, where Lions played off of their momentum, while SK was still unable to get back into the game, although being on the less favored T-side. The scoreboard at the half-time said 11-4 advantage for Lions, and SK would have to produce a pretty big come back in order to finish 3rd.
They started off on the right foot by winning the pistol and the next anti-eco, but Lions cut them off thanks to an ace by Jim "zneel" Andersson in a 2vs5 situation to take a 12-6 lead. They slowly built on that lead with a few close round wins and finally managed to take the overall win with a 16-9 score.
Match statistics:
Thanks to this result, Lions earned a cheque for $8,000, while SK Gaming will go home with $3,800.
Don't forget to tune in for the grand final tomorrow at 09:10, when ESC Gaming and Natus Vincere will meet to decide the winner of the $50,000 cheque.

the problem with SK is that they are very low tactical wise.. they need a guy like carn or threat to replace robban, even if that guy frags less than robban.. the tactics and the teamplay is more important at this level..

threat is bound to be a hot prospect on the wish list of fnatic, but perhaps also on SK's if robban has a similar performance next tourney.

Not entirely surprising SK didn't make the finals. During the Get_right interview he said they have been "doing nothing" during their 2 days off. No watching demos? No working on strats a little more? I believe it was Kuben or lurppis who said they didn't bootcamp/play that much and it clearly showed in their T side results.

wtf is up with nuke for sk?? they should not lose on that map... get-right/f0rest/trace are the best players in the world on that map statswise and they are on the same team... nuke and train should be down for sk... it is strange... maybe too many mad fraggers do create a problem
